1 out of 5 eggsHad to return

Pros: None

Cons: It requires the installation PC to run. It's not a print "SERVER".
My point is not to have to run my PC otherwise I could hook up the printer to the PC for that! It's useless.
No direct TCP/IP install like the Linksys print server.

1 out of 5 eggsSteer clear

Pros: I recently had a HHD fail and no backup system on it. I purchased this for a network backup drive for all my computers, to avoid having anymore data-loss.

Cons: I set it up and with a Samsung 3TB drive connected. I partitioned the drive into 3 different drives. When I tried to upload to two different drives at once. My system went Blue screen and reset. I disconnected the system and connected the External drive to my PC and all was just fine.

Other Thoughts: This might be just fine as a Print server but is a failure for networking a Hard Drive. When it was working the best I could get from it was 3kb a sec down or up.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked, quit, no support

Pros: Shares printer / scanner between multiple computers using the network allowing much flexibility on equipment placement.

Cons: Stopped working after seven months.
No support from TP-Link. They have ignored both an online support request through their WEB site and email. Calling multiple times yields a message that nobody is available to help.

Other Thoughts: I shared a Canon printer / scanner between two Windows 7 computers for about seven months with no problem. A couple weeks ago both computers started to experience a problem. After booting up, it was impossible to maintain focus on any window which basically rendered the computers useless. It did not matter what program was opened, it would immediately lose focus and nothing could be typed in. After much troubleshooting, I found that if I either disabled the TP-Link software (using MSconfig) or unplugged the TL-PS310U, the computers were fine. As soon as both were enabled, the computers would fail again. Needless to say, I have removed the device from my equipment. I filled out an online support request at the TP-Link WEB site. There was no reply. I left an email for them, no reply. I have called multiple times only to get a message that nobody is available to assist. TP-Link has some neat products, but now that I know I cannot count on them for any form of support, I will not purchase anything else from them.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for checking out our Print Server and we are sorry to see that you've had some issues with this device.

We appologize for any inconvenience that you may have experienced with contacting our Technical support.

We do have local Technicians that can give you a call and I may be able to assist you as well.

If you could provide your best contact number and a good time to call at howard.he@tp-link.com then I will try to get your issue resolved as fast as possible.

It seems like you may have a possible ip conflict on the Printer Server that could be causing some of your issue.

You could try changing the ip address of the Printer Server to an address that you know isn't being used on your Network.

Best Regards!

3 out of 5 eggsGreat for XP/Home not for 7/Office

Pros: Works great for Windows XP with included software or manual setup
Works great for Win 7 if only using 1 or 2 PC's and included software
Easy Setup if using included software
Had no issues on XP systems for duration of use

Cons: Does not function on Win 7 with manual setup
Included software HAS to be running to work
Included software locks printer to single PC while using

Other Thoughts: This device claims Win 7 compatibility, but it doesn't tell you that you HAVE to use the included software for it to work. It also doesn't tell you that the included software has to be running all of the time for you to print. It also doesn't tell you that only 1 computer at a time can be connected to the printer while using the included software.

This device was purchased to replace an old PC we had been using as a print server which recently died. This is an office setting with about 10 users needing access to the printer with a mix of OS: XP, Vista, and 7. The included software has to be installed and running in order to print. While "connected" to the printer no one else can even see the printer, it will not queue. Using the manual setup only XP machines work, Win 7 will not see the printer. Sometimes it would connect immediately after setup, but restarting would lose the connection.

Final thought: Fine for home use with limited connections, not good for businesses.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsHandy Device

Pros: This device does exactly what it says with the ability to connect devices other than printers. Just make sure you look up the latest device compatibility list at TP-Link's site.

Cons: Instructions are vague.

Other Thoughts: One thing I found out about this device is that although my printer does not show up as supporting LPR printing on the list I was able to configure it as such. For multi-function printers it gives the ability to install the full suite on whichever workstation you want and then just set the others up for IP printing using LPR and the queue name.

3 out of 5 eggsnot impressed but it works

Pros: • It works with my Epson R340 (not all features of the multifunction printer work, but it still prints).
• Very small size.
• Setup was easy, and the manual covered everything needed.

Cons: • It's dependant on the TP-LINK "MFP and Storage Server" software. NOT setup via TCP/IP network setup.
• The software must be started to access the network printer.
• Software can auto start with Windows logon, but... The software has a BIG SPLASH SCREEN! I hate those!
• It uses those blocky power plugs that cover more than one receptacle.
• The unit has the RJ45 plug-receptacle on one end, and the USB on the other. It's better to just have all on one side to help hide cable clutter on the desk/table.

Other Thoughts: • I purchased the TP-LINK TL-PS31OU to replace a Trendnet TE100-P1U that started corrupting print jobs.
• Only one workstation can be connected to the printer at a time (via software), so if you have multiple workstations, then they all should "disconnect from printer when idle" and only connect when printing. It takes a while to connect...
• The software has a LAG time before it establishes connection, so you will see "Printer not found" error for 10-15 seconds before printing. That will confuse old people.
• I wouldn't purchase this again. I'd purchase a print server that doesn't rely on software, and just installs via "network TCP/IP print server."

5 out of 5 eggsIt is so small but it works great.

Pros: Small foot print.
Very easy to install.
Great compatibility with many multifunction printers (check the list first).
Utility and firmware updates available.
Win7 compatible.

Cons: Cat5 cable not included.
Slow web interface.
Current version of utility does not match the description on manual.

Other Thoughts: I was shopping for a MF print server for my company. This one not only does that, it also supports storage sharing up to 4 devices through a USB hub. The USB server is very small and it is very easy to install the hardware and software. Before purchase, make sure you check the manufacturer website for compatibility with your printer. Nevertheless, it has the longest list of compatible printer than similar products. To make the installation smoother, install your printer drivers first. After you installed the print server utility, launch it and it will find the device(s) with an IP attached. You may use either DHCP or fixed IP. With the new utility, , you will need to look for the IP address from the taskbar icon to access the web interface for settings the first time. Most people don't even need to care about it. Click the button to connect the device and the computer will automatically add the printer (scanner and fax too). Device will be automatically disconnected after idle for 30s.
