Will this work with a Chromebook?

I bought this pocket router so I could add cheap internet to my Nikon D4 camera. The camera has an ethernet connection on it with its own built in web server. So connecting this device via the ethernet port and using my iPad via wireless to get to the camera worked like a charm.

Now if you are looking for a cheap wireless router for your other device, of course this will work. Connect the ethernet port to your commercial internet providers wire and you should be able to get online from the chromebook. If you are looking to link the chromebook to other devices in your house of course this will work.

Had a standard wireless and a standard ethernet port.

how this thing works? i mean, wherever i go, i can connect a wifi with this? (im sorry with my english)

This product works great. I haven't had any problems with is since I bought it last year. I just inserted the cable from my modem to the little with device (which must be inserted to an outlet), then I set up the password system. I took a little time since I had an older model before that was interfering with the process. Overall the process is very easy and didn't take more than 30 minutes. I have my internet through a satellite service so the modem can reset itself during storms, but all I have to do is disconnect both the modem and the wireless router for a few minutes and reconnect them. I thing this was an excellent purchase. Well worth the price.

I don't understand the travel part.  How is this a hotspot?  Where is this device getting it's wifi from?

Good question deserves a good answer. I use mine when I am at my customer's offices. With permission, I set it up as an Access Point to dynamically acquire an IP address so I have wi-fi on my phone and laptop. Motels used to have hard-wired Ethernet in the rooms, but now they're all wireless. The TP-Link could be configured as a repeater to take an existing wi-fi and extend its range, but most motels use web authentication which the unit can't do, so while I use mine almost everyday at work, I haven't been able to use it while traveling.

What voltage range does it support? I am planning to us it while abroad too (220 v).

It will support 110v - 220v.  I have personally used it in both Germany and Japan and it worked great.

Can I use this for my Chromecast (not Chromebook)? I can't get my Chromecast to connect to my Wifi at work.

No experience with chromecast.. your tv would require an rj45 port for this to give it an internet connection and might need to be a "smart tv". I think chromecast is a similar connection dedicated to google tv or similar.
If you plug this into your network at your job your IT people might not be  happy about it, it should not gain access if they are doing it right.

What is the signal range?

I get excellent range in hotels where I use it the most. I've tested a little at home with it, and can get signal 2 rooms away. Not too bad for an internal antenna.

When you are in a motel or restaurant that offers free Wi-Fi access, you may use this device to connect your wired-ethernet-only devices to the internet.   Or, if the motel offers wired-only internet via wall jacks, you could use this device to create your own in-room Wi-Fi wireless hot spot.

Device does not require additional subscriptions or data plans, so the answer to your question is "anyone".      Device can operate in several modes. (see: http://www.tp-link.us/products/details/?model=tl-wr700n )  Described at that link is Client Adapter Mode or Access Point Mode.  When you are in a motel or restaurant that offers free Wi-Fi access, you may use this device to connect your wired-ethernet-only devices to the internet.  For example, At your home, you may use the device to connect a wired-only X-Box to the internet wirelessly.

Does the router mode of this thing compact with modem linking to Comcast cable internet?

Yes it should. You will need to have dhcp enabled on the router and an eithernet cable from your modem to the router and you should be good to go.

Question 9

Can this router proxy, or connect to a VPN, so that all traffic for the devices connected to it are routed through that VPN? (Specifically wondering about Bridge mode-- use case: I'm at a hotel, I connect this router to hotel wifi, I connect my devices to this router, my devices now VPN through the hotel's connection to my network.)

This router is a very capable piece of equipment except for the fact that it cannot handle more than one to three devices.

Do not expect it to keep your settings very well or be anything but a nuisance because it wants to be the AP and not a slave.

VPN settings MAY work, but the device is unreliable unless wired to the host.
