1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR700N Wireless N150 Portable Router, Pocket Design, Multifunction, 150Mbps

Pros: $5.00. Small size to fit in suitcases.

Cons: Appears to work out of the box. Powered on with no network cable attached, can access admin page wirelessly from iPhone browser. Left on trip, arrived at hotel. Verified wireless hub in room and phones work. Plugged in the router to the wall jack for Ethernet so I can connect my chrome casts....Bang! Entire network goes down. No wireless hub active, all phones go dead in room ( 2 separate phones, one in main area, one in bedroom.) As soon as I remove this router from the plug everything in the hotel room comes back up. Id return it or ask for a new one but for $5 I think I'll just call it a $5.00 lesson learned.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Newegg Customer,

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding our product.

We are sorry to hear that our device was unable to provide a solution for you.

The possibility of a single device "taking down" an entire network is very unlikely, but all taken into consideration, our pocket router's default IP may have been in conflict with the hotel's gateway or separate DHCP server. Again, an issue such as this is not a common occurrence and creates concern regarding the current state of this hotel's network infrastructure.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding our products in the future, please feel free to contact our support team at the number and/or email provided for you below and an available support agent will be happy to assist you.

We thank you again for your feedback and certainly hope this experience will not discourage you from checking out more of our great networking products in the future.

Best Regards!

4 out of 5 eggsArrived and works...

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR700N Wireless N150 Portable Router, Pocket Design, Multifunction, 150Mbps

Pros: - Very small, easy to travel with
- Plugged in to the wall and it showed up and worked. Logged in and changed the SSID, saved it and logged back on.
- Reconnected to the router immediately... but had to manually configure network to put in the network password.
- verified firmware installed was most up to date at TP-Link site.

Cons: - basic quick start up and set up is easy if you use defaults, to change the SSID I had to know where to go to put in the SSID and save; putting it on the main quick set up login screen with the pass and rebooting will not save the new SSID, you must go to the wireless tab that shows the ip's and the SSID and put in the SSID there and hit save.
- Directions for configuring could be clearer or possibly it could give a link to get clear directions on line for those that aren't familiar with router set ups.

Other Thoughts: I just received the router and plugged it in to check it. I did have to put in my password manually after changing the SSID; network config did not ask for the pass, just said I couldn't connect to the internet. I imagine rebooting the computer may have brought up the password request but i just set up the wireless network manually with my SSID name and the pass i had chosen and it connected again right away. I don't plan on using this every day. I will carry it with me for the rare hotel that does not have wireless (they do still exist, i'm on the road alot) and I will use it when i'm at my mom's who does not have wireless. For $4.99 it was an easy answer to an occasional issue. I can't vouch for longevity. I knocked off one egg as the quick set up had no save for the SSID or pass, you have to log in to the wireless as I mentioned. Confusing to people I'm sure.

1 out of 5 eggsWhy are you selling this product whose website is down and cannot be configured?

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR700N Wireless N150 Portable Router, Pocket Design, Multifunction, 150Mbps

Pros: What to write, cant even get started, the website meant to show step by step instruction or guidelines is up for sale.

Cons: Dont buy this.....

Other Thoughts: Never faced such a thing on newegg site, very disappointed that your team did not do a basic check on the website and testing/configuring this device. Also when I tried to return and look for a refund, its showing .98 cents. I don't feel like returning it, garbage box is the right place.

Thanks for selling such a nice product, wish I gave you a 10 Golden Stars for completely overlooking and not testing before its advertised on you site. (had to give 1 egg becoz it wouldnt let me submit) Very disappointed.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Abdul,

4 out of 5 eggsOnce you get past the instructions it's a breeze

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR700N Wireless N150 Portable Router, Pocket Design, Multifunction, 150Mbps

Pros: Quick setup, then pretty much plug and play. Small footprint. As a repeater it's easy to plug in if/when you need the signal range, like when on the patio.

Cons: The instructions WANT you to wireless access the actual device but TELL you to "select your WiFi network". I kept selecting my Wifi network and being told the web address entered per the instructions was for sale. When I finally got through to TP-Link Tech Support and accessed the actual device, everything started working according to plan.

1 out of 5 eggsYou Get What You Pay For: Difficult To Set Up, Bad Instructions, Not Even Worth the Cheap Sale Price

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR700N Wireless N150 Portable Router, Pocket Design, Multifunction, 150Mbps

Pros: Was very inexpensive with NewEgg promo code - got two of them for $10. Unfortunately, it was $10 down the drain.

Cons: - Difficult to set up (actually: impossible - never could get either unit set up in Repeater mode)
- Instructions are vague and incomplete at best, flat-out incorrect at worst. Online menus and popups (once you get to them - it takes *many* tries - keep hitting "refresh" on the browser) have poor grammar/English, are too vague to be meaningful and have "dead-ends" without a return path forcing the user to start over. Browser window has to be maximized to allow the settings page to be displayed.
- From my experience trying to get two of these things set up in Repeater mode, they have to be within 12' of the main router to get/hold the signal, which completely defeats the purpose of using them as a Repeater.

Other Thoughts: The set up instructions repeatedly refer to a "Blue LED" when the actual color is Green. This is a trivial thing, but it is a great example of the overall quality of this product. If you can't even get the COLOR of the ONLY LIGHT on the product correct in the instructions, it really makes the customer question the quality of the item.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Barbara,

5 out of 5 eggsJust Perfect

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR700N Wireless N150 Portable Router, Pocket Design, Multifunction, 150Mbps

Pros: Extremely easy to set up, great range, very portable. Most affordable.

Cons: I do not have any cons

Other Thoughts: Highly recommended, I had trouble with our WiFi overloaded with customers so that our cash register could not run credit cards. The TP-LINK TL-WR700N Wireless N150 Portable Router gave me a secure, limited access option. I noticed that I could pick up the signal at the opposite corner of our 2700 sq foot building. Very satisfied with the product, ordered another for our second building on the property.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's a great mini router

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR700N Wireless N150 Portable Router, Pocket Design, Multifunction, 150Mbps

Pros: Size.
802.11n
Several different modes.

Cons: The wifi speed (N) is faster than the LAN port... you'll ever see full wifi N speeds with a 100M LAN port.

Other Thoughts: I'd love to be able to power it with DC... but I know they want to you to buy the other product they make for that..
