2 out of 5 eggsGet ready to be disappointed

Pros: Easy set up
DD-WRT available
Decent price at the time of my purchase
Stable

Cons: Low Range/Signal

Other Thoughts: I brought this router thinking it could give me some serious range but it was a big disappointment,
it can cover about 2 rooms max.
If your looking for something reliable, then this is fine, but if your looking for range. don't bother.
this is as good as a netgear n300 in terms of range or less.

5 out of 5 eggsworks great

Pros: Easy setup, pushed the qss button on my router and then ran as fast as I could to the garage and pushed the range extender button and it was done.

My detached garage was getting spotty coverage. I could sometimes browse the web and once in a while i could stream Pandora radio. Now I can watch youtube , it loads instant and runs flawlessly.

Good price.

It doesn't give you two different networks to choose from, that would be a burden. It all appears as one big network to my PCs and tablets. I didn't even have to re-enter my password on anything.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: picked up the signal from my house by putting it in the closest window sillmof mydetached garage 35 yards away.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Looks nice. Good price.

Cons: Will not connect to my network.

Other Thoughts: I also spent 2+ hours of configuring and reconfiguring and re-reconfiguring this device, I could not get it to connect to my wireless network. I tried using the WPA button, I tried connecting it to my PC and logging on to the extender.

When logging onto the extender using my PC, the management web page would become unresponsive after a few clicks and I'd have to reboot the extender again. I believe the management page is far too buggy to be sold to consumers.

Wish I had my time, restocking fee, and shipment costs back.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work

Pros: Looks nice. Good price.

Cons: Will not connect to my network.

Other Thoughts: After 2+ hours of configuring and reconfiguring and re-reconfiguring this device, I could not get it to connect to my wireless network. I tried using the WPA button, I tried connecting it to my PC and logging on to the extender, nothing worked. I tried calling tech support and explaining to them that I had tried configuring it both ways, but I couldn't understand through their accent what they were saying. They got rather rude with me and hung up. I wouldn't recommend this product. Doesn't work out of the box, and tech support needs to work on their customer service skills.

3 out of 5 eggsGood, but tech support and documentation not so good.

Pros: Good signal strength.

Cons: Spent 2 hours setting it up, config should be simple, but after following the wizard, and applying the settings, it would never connect, no error messages or warnings, just came back to the beginning of the wizard saying that "You are not connected to any network". Called tech support, and after 20 minutes on hold, I finally got connected to a very friendly girl who didn't speak much English, who told me to do a few things, (which i tried before calling) like updating the firmware, and change some settings manually. After another 25 minutes, she told me the device was defective.
Before giving up, tried some other things, and by trial and error, found out that this repeater will not connect to your router if you are not using channels 1 to 6. If your router is using Channels 7 to 11 it just won't work. After changing my router to channel 1, and running the wizard again, the repeater connected immediately. Less than 2 minutes.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for checking out our Router.

We are sorry to see that you've had some issues with the setup.

The easiest way to set up this device is by the WPS button. Push the WPS or QSS button on your Router. Then push the Range Extender button on the 830RE. After about 2 minutes you will see that the 2 devices are connected with each other.

Here is a quick setup guide to show you the different steps to set this device up:
http://www.tp-link.us/resources/document/TL-WA830RE_V2_QIG_7106503976.pdf

We are glad to see that the device finally connected for you.

If you have any more issues then you can feel free to contact me directly at howard.he@tp-link.com.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: These work great. You can hit the WPS button on your router, the WPS button on this, and sit back as it auto syncs. Then you're done. Takes maybe 30 seconds. You can see the LEDs on each device working then solid, so you know it's done. You can also direct plug into this and set it up as an AP. The menus are super easy with the integrated web browser.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I sometimes get a pile of these refurbed from a local supplier, at the cost of a decent lunch. It's rediculous. I like to five or so in stock. Client wants just an AP, they are set. If they need expand their WiFi, same box. If they need massive expansion of two or more, works just the same. I have not tried more than two of these at a site. When someone else has a WAP (non-router) on sale for $100, I just laugh. These are all you need. sometimes I get the white flat box, sometimes I get the blue oval. They a 2 models. The both work the same.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks but slow

Pros: Increase WiFi range by a ton. Very very easy setup

Cons: Slow even for a WiFi repeater

Other Thoughts: Bought three of these to increase wireless range and I'm debating getting one more. They are much slower then even the wireless G access points they are replacing. But they are worth it to keep from having to manually switch SSIDs all the time. I knew that there would be a speed loss to gain signal but WOW THEY ARE SLOW. Put one in my garage and one in my barn to cover my whole yard and pool. Plus one more up in my attic. They work fine and all claim to be getting 80-90% signal from the main Access Point. The AP says they are connected at around 230M TX/TR rate so maybe there is a firmware issue causing the slowness? Actual speed in closer to 5mb with 15mb spikes.

Even with the slow speed I would still recommend. But just be aware you are going to lose speed to gain range.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great for extending

Pros: With WPS, this takes about five minutes to set up. We had been using a Mesh wireless product in our networks. They were always having issues. Up, down up down. it was ridiculous. We tried a few of these with a simple Linksys WRTGx series, and for less than the cost of ONE of the three wireless mesh units, we were getting full house coverage. We had three mesh nodes in place originally.

Cons: None that I can find. This is a larger unit, so if the client is demanding aesthetics, you may have to hide it somewhere. It does have the normal rabbit ears that some clients don't like to see.

Other Thoughts: Moving this unit into a wooden cabinet didn't seem to affect signal strength that much. We had whole house coverage with this unit in the middle and a linksys WRTG2x at their Comcast connection in the side room. MIMO is a wonderful thing.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: -Small
-Aesthetically Pleasing
-Easy to Setup
-Fast
-Affordable

Ripped the box open to this baby to find out that the product looks NOTHING like the picture shown on Newegg. That's fine though, as the new version looks a bit more modern and less antiquated with the one depicted on Newegg. No matter, Setup on my WPA2 secured network took all of about 2 minutes. Simply plug the thing into your computer's ethernet port and go to the URL supplied in the manual and it's basically click next a few times to set this baby up!

Some Numbers, for people that like those (All wireless tests done on 2.4GHz Wireless N):

Internet Speed Results

Hardlined to Router: 11Mbits Down / 1 Mbit Up -- Ping: 12ms Jitter: 0ms
16ft. USB Cable with D-Link Adapter - 10.8Mbits Down / .94Mbits Up -- Ping: 51ms Jitter: 30ms
Hardline to TP-Link Range Extender - 10.98Mbits Down / .98Mbits Up -- Ping: 21ms Jitter: 3ms

I'd expect the wireless results when connected to the range extender to follow suit as well. Overall, the numbers aren't exactly concrete evidence as these can vary due to many different factors, but a difference in latency of 30ms on the same server is pretty impressive.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: My house has gone through renovation over the years and where my computer used to be is now a pantry for the kitchen area. My ISP charges $100 to activate a new cable outlet in the house so I never bothered. My router sits on the other side of the house through one floor and many, many walls. The signal was decent at best on my desktop using a 16ft USB cable and a Wireless adapter. But on my laptop or phone? Forget it. I bought this hoping to improve the signal in my living room downstairs for guests and for my own personal use. Couldn't be happier. Right now I've got a hardline running from my desktop to this thing in the other room, the speed and ping results are spectacular. Full bars of signal on my Android Device and Laptop. Absolutely perfect, just what I was looking for. And for the price? Unbeatable.

4 out of 5 eggsGood product

Pros: It does what it is supposed to do. Plenty of options if you know what you are doing. Or you can just use the quick setup. I upgraded the antennas (you have to upgrade both) to 8dBi and the signal was boosted yet more.

Cons: I didn't receive the version pictured on newegg (rev1) instead I received the rev2 which looks ugly in my opinion, I assume both versions work the same.

Other Thoughts: This thing drops the connection every 48hrs or so, however it does have an option to configure a watchdog ping to the router, and this solved the problem. Could be better thou
