3 out of 5 eggsNot so good performance

Pros: Fairly easy setup, units to work in good weather.

Cons: I bought 2 of these, using them to connect two buildings about 800 meters apart. Both are mounted about 30ft in the air with a clear line of site of eachother. I'm only able to get about 15-20Mbps transfer speeds in ideal conditions. As it approaches this limit, latency shoots up to 300+ms. Signal strength on the antenna alignment page is around 60%. They are aimed as perfectly as they could be. So to get only this % signal and speeds at such a short distance (TPLink says they work over 20Km), is disappointing.
Worse, we got some snow today, and the signal quality dropped to 20%.

Other Thoughts: Might try plugging an external antenna into them, or replacing them, but they won't work for our needs.

3 out of 5 eggsPOE wireless AP

Pros: Seems to be a good unit - will have a better idea after more testing

Cons: Although it does utilize POE, it is not the industry standard POE - you HAVE to use the power adapter and injector that comes with the unit. Standard POE is 48VDC and this unit uses 12VDC.

Other Thoughts: I would like this unit a lot better if I could plug it into my POE switch and be done.

2 out of 5 eggsNice external antenna option

Pros: Operates on 5ghz frequency and may make a great wireless bridge.

Cons: It only operates on 5ghz band with no option for 2.4ghz. My late model laptop with 802.11n card could not pick up signal. So it would be useless as a repeater or pure access point unless you want to eliminate 80% of your customers

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry to hear of your disappointment with the TL-WA7510N outdoor wireless access point.

This device was intentionally designed to only support 5ghz as a means to isolate the wireless network from the more commonly used 2.4ghz devices. In most cases, these devices provide a very good solution to crowded wireless traffic areas where one wishes to establish a stable and speedy wireless connection that will be unaffected from 2.4ghz traffic.

If you would like a 2.4ghz compatible outdoor wireless access point, please take a look at our
TL-WA5210G, as it may better suit your needs!

We appreciate your feedback, and we hope you continue to enjoy our products!

Best Regards!
TP-LINK Support Team
