4 out of 5 eggsVery good for SOHO users

Pros: Performs very well - both the wife and I noticed an improvement to the overall connection speed to our ISP over our previous cheap, off-the-shelf wifi/router combo. We can now run simultaneous HD video streams while also browsing the web, playing games, and everything else, and this thing doesn't even break a sweat.

Gigabit ports for both WAN and LAN are very nice as well, even though I'm not really taking advantage of the WAN side.

The one feature that made me choose this router over others is the integrated power supply. We have enough wall warts around the house, so being able to plug in directly to the wall is a nice feature.

The focus on security in this device is nice also, with many more options related to the built-in SPI firewall than other home routers, and offers many other VPN related items (I don't currently have any VPNs set up so I can't comment on how well they work).

The router is very easy to set up, and (when you have a working device) gets connected quickly with little effort. The web management interface is quick, and works (somewhat) well on any recent web browser.

Cons: The web interface suffers from some bugs, the most annoying of which is some of the buttons tend to jump around when you hover over them. There are also miscellaneous misspellings, and some of the terminology used for a few of the settings is awkward. Much like other devices in its class, 90% of the settings require a reboot to take effect, and a reboot takes around 60sec. Upon initial setup, this gets annoying. The newest firmware added an option to skip the reboot, so you can make multiple changes and then do one reboot to apply so this isn't as much of a problem.

The NTP settings can be very finicky, and the daylight savings time option is strange in that it takes up to 2 minutes before it will actually apply. At first I didn't realize this and couldn't understand why it kept saying "Daylight savings time is down" when the checkbox had been checked and the config saved. It defaults to China Standard Time, and my ISP refused to connect until I had manually adjusted the time settings so consider doing this before you hook up to the Internet.

The only thing I wish was present on this device was IPv6 support. There are very few wired VPN routers in this price range that offer IPv6, but I hope a future firmware update will add this functionality.

Other Thoughts: First bought this in January 2014. Initially I was very unimpressed with how the device performed and I had a heck of a time getting it to connect to my ISP. It also seemed to reboot at strange times. I initially thought the Feb. 2014 firmware update might fix this problem, but this only had the effect of completely breaking WAN-side DHCP (what my ISP uses). Luckily I was able to still RMA with Newegg, and I received a replacement with a total turnaround time of two weeks.

The replacement runs significantly better and I haven't experienced any of the problems I had with the original one, so it appears the original was a lemon. With the latest firmware update applied, I am very happy with both its feature set and performance.

For those that are curious, both my original and the replacement were the V2 hardware version.

5 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Works great

Cons: I have been working with this stuff for years and even I found this a little frustrating to set up but I got it up and running fairly quickly and have not had to touch it for any reason since I set it up!

5 out of 5 eggsNot Bad

Pros: Never had a lock up on this device. The initial firmware version has some port mapping limitations, but subsequent updates by the vendor has resolved it, so I am happy. It is very fast and has decent options. The built in power supply and decent metal case is a nice departure from the wall of wall warts.

Cons: None so far.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Cheap Router

Pros: Good cheap router with VPN. Was fairly reliable. Better than the Netgear it replaced. Nice WebGUI with a lot of options. Better than most low cost routers.

Cons: Cheap router = not the best stability. Still better than most others in this price range. VPN is handy and secure and not too big of a PITA to set up.

1 out of 5 eggsThis 1 is Useless!

Pros: Exterior case is nice. Access interface is fine.

Cons: Will not connect to Service Provider.
Replace a very low cost Trend Net Router and 100GB switch with this unit to gain the GB speed and have everything in one package. While the router seems to recognize the service provider, it never once obtained a connection. Unplug / re-plug / resets all with no result. Service provider confirms they do not receive a request although the 600VPN tells me it is trying to do so.
The older router went back in place - BANG! Full connection and function. Looks like my unit is a throw away!

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Stable

Pros: I have been using this for ~8 months now with no issues at all. I have never had to reboot. Has a nice sturdy metal case with built in power supply. Appears well made.

Cons: None, possibly VPN throughput but that is only theoretical since I have never used that feature

1 out of 5 eggsrouter locks up

Pros: none

Cons: Router locks up.
Must power cycle to restore functionality.
That is a daily ritual...

Other Thoughts: TP link is selling defective equipment.

5 out of 5 eggsjust fine

Pros: Works. Perfectly.

Cons: Zip.

Other Thoughts: Just plugged it in and away we went. I've got a TV, Blue-ray player, Amp, wireless AP, and two computers on the network and everything is happy and running. I logged into the web page for settings and changed the password. That was over a month ago and nothing bad has happened. I'm happy.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Little Router That Could

Pros: Compact and simplistic design, GB connections throughout and a simple UI make this a good choice for me. I do not like a router that has a built-in radio, and this fits that bill perfectly. Not to mention the affordable price.

Cons: Not rack-mountable.

Other Thoughts: This little guy has been in service for about 3 months now with 100% uptime, which is more than I can say for our previous Netgear router. It's simply a no-frills router that works day and night.

2 out of 5 eggsOk for basic surfing, but ...

Pros: a lot of functions and protection for you pay for, great for basic surfing with a low simultaneous device count, does not use a typical power brick but instead has a built in power supply with the mickey mouse type cord making it easier to plug into a power strip. Metal case, lightweight and runs cool.

Cons: I bought this to replace my DLink DGL-4100 that died. This router has issues, it has gigabit ports but they cant handle jumbo frames, I have to turn them off on the host to access anything connected to the switch in the router which kinda defeats the purpose of gigabit other than pure line speed (j.frames work through a separate switch no problem, by the same company no less). When I started hosting some game servers (just 2-3 players total, and I wasn't playing on it, separate machine) it knocked me off the internet and had to reboot it, I'd hate to see it if I put it under a real load (16-20 players) that the old DLink handled flawlessly, so much for 10000 concurrent sessions. Finally the router setup page asks you to put in your IP reservation and binding separately as well as not storing the macs between pages making it a pain for initial setup.

Other Thoughts: honestly if I wasn't a power user this would be fine for general surfing or light use, but advertising this as a VPN/business class router that seemed to match the specs of a DLink DGL-4100 or at least be a replacement for it seems to be false advertising.
