2 out of 5 eggsFlawless for almost 2 years. Let's see how TPLINK supports its warranty.

Pros: Worked flawlessly for 21 months. Five stars until a couple days ago.

Cons: Froze after 21 months. Recycled, and it froze again after a few hours.

Other Thoughts: Hopefully I won't have to pay shipping for a replacement.
We will see what a Manufacturer Warranty of Parts 5 years limited and Labor 5 years limited is worth. I will follow up.

5 out of 5 eggsIndustrial quality gigabit switch

Pros: I use it to connect my computers, VOIP phones, storage devices, and printers. It is quiet, has its own power supply, and cools efficiently.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I'm looking forward to see what it's performance would be once Google Fiber is available in my state.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Never has failed. Delivers to my Smart TV from my hard drive flawlessly while connecting two more PC's.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Some complain about the rack mount and the size. These aren't problems for me because the switch (and cable modem and router) are all on a table in my basement. It's big and bulky but built like an Abrams tank.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Switch!

Pros: This switch is perfect. I bought this without my wife knowing, and when it arrived and I took it out of the box she had though I paid close to $100 for it, which was not the case. It is a solid device, and looks professional. One of the other reviewers stated that speeds will be reduced to 100mb if anything but gigabit devices are attached. This is not the case. I have a mix of gigabit and 100 megabit devices attached, and the switch automatically negotiates the speed. The led's on the front will display if the port is running in gigabit or 100mb mode. when transferring between RAID setups on 2 different computers, i achieve about 110MB/s transfer rate. When transferring between 2 pc's running single HDD's, the speed is considerably slower.

Cons: I wish the status led for network speed was a different color. All Led's are green

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Works like a charm. I needed to add some connectivity in my wiring closet and this fit the bill. It's built like a tank but it stays cool. Works great.

Cons: Wish it was managed, but for this price I don't actually care! Now I wish I had bought more than one at that great price....

Other Thoughts: I bought this strictly because of the past reviews. TP-Link was not on my list of companies noted for network equipment. I've been a Cisco dork since they bought 3Com. I am pleasantly surprised.

4 out of 5 eggsA bit large, but works fine

Pros: Completely fanless and quiet. No separate wall-wart (AC adapter) to worry about. Comes with rubber feet for the desk and rack ears for a rack.

Setup is simple. Just plug it in.

Cons: It is a bit large to put on your desk. It is the same size as their 48-port switch, and a standard size for a rack-mount switch, so keep that in mind.

Minor quibble: the LEDs aren't directly above the ports.

5 out of 5 eggssecond SSD

Pros: Very fast, very stable and I love the fact that the only noise I hear from my tower are the fans, which are super quiet as well lol. Never again will I use a conventional hard drive

Cons: Only the cost, but it will continue to drop as more and more people convert to SSD

5 out of 5 eggsIt gigabits my LAN :)

Pros: * integrated power supply
* sturdy metal box
* separate indicators for live port and for Gb support
* works flawlessly so far (only a week now)

Cons: (minor) Gray-brown finish? What's wrong with black? (But it will be out of sight)

Other Thoughts: Ports and indicators on the front, power and ground on the back. It is 1U and rack mountable but really SOHO/smallbiz gear not for datacenter.

5 out of 5 eggsHefty 8 Port Switch

Pros: This switch is impressively well built from what I used to consider a bargain brand company. The entirely metal housing and rackmountable size gives the switch a good amount of heft. Most other inexpensive 8 port switches are made of plastic and get thrown around all over just by the weight of the Ethernet cables plugged into them.

It uses a standard 3 pin power cable so you don't have to worry about losing an ac adapter in a bag. (Great for LAN Parties)

16Gbps switching capacity allows you to run all 8 ports in full duplex simultaneously.

Is silent because it is fan less but also runs surprisingly cool.

The switch includes a post for grounding which is a really nice feature that you don't see on inexpensive hardware pretty much ever.

A 5 year warranty for networking hardware this inexpensive is uncommon. Most 8 port routers will come with ~1 year

I installed RAM Disks on a half dozen of my network computers and transferred data between them all simultaneously to see what kind of speeds the switch would achieve. It was able to hit peak speeds of ~110 MB/s and Average speeds of ~90MB/s

Reliable. I installed this temporarily in our shop. This switch never missed a beat in the almost month I've had it. All 8 ports were used on a daily basis to transfer terabytes of updates and customer data backups.

Cons: This isn't so much a con as it is a warning. This switch is rack mountable so all of the inputs are on the front of the switch so that they can easily be reached in a rack. This can make cable management a pain if you are using it for home use and want to be able to see activity lights.

Other Thoughts: Overall I was really impressed with this switch. I never would have guessed that tp-link made something of this quality. The switch not only looked good but performed great. It was fast and in the time I used it heavily I never had any problems.

If you do have problems tp-link backs this guy with a 5 year warranty which is amazing.

An unmanaged switch like this is perfect for most home users. Plug it in and forget it and it should work great.

I'm looking forward to the continued hassle free use of this switch. Keep up the good work TP-Link!

4 out of 5 eggsA Very Nice Small Office Switch

Pros: This is a very large switch that is not quite approaching rack mount dimensions (almost a foot wide), but is still large and might be slightly overkill for your average home user unless you have a dedicated equipment area.
Most importantly I had this hooked up to my home network and its existence was completely transparent, as it should be. Just plug it in and go!
The greatest part is that this switch runs reasonably cool and functions reliably at near its rated network speed. Forget the theoretical Gigabit numbers, as long as you are within 40-60 MB/Sec, you are doing fine and this switch is comfortably in that range. Just make sure your cables and everything else in your network signal-chain are up to the task.

Cons: Not really anything other than its size and weight, but depending on the environment, that can be a positive.

Other Thoughts: I was pleasantly surprised with the power supply being internal (wall warts generally do not have a place with professional grade equipment) and its overall sturdiness of construction and heft is good as you do not want your equipment pulled down through casual wire movement. I’m sure that is intentional as in most instances this device will typically be sitting in an IT closet somewhere happily doing its job for years to come and none of the size or weight concerns will be issues.
