1 out of 5 eggsRefuses to work properly

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: None so far

Cons: This product refuses to work. I am getting a measly 0.5 mbps on speedtest.net, sometimes peaking at 4 mbps. This is ridiculously slow. My last wireless adapter got 25 mbps on speedtest.

Worse yet, when this adapter connects to the internet, it manages to decrease the speed of the wifi to all wifi devices in the house to about 7 mbps! I didn't even know that was possible. I've tried reinstalling the drivers a couple times with no luck.

Other Thoughts: I expected more from such a highly reviewed product...

2 out of 5 eggsMeh

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Easy to install, nice price, shipped fast, recognized wireless network immediately.

Cons: It really doesn't perform the way I need it to. When used for surfing the web or streaming videos it seems to be okay. But when I'm gaming online I get constant problems with the connection and my ping is spiking very high every 5-10 seconds. Makes games pretty unplayable. I've tried downloading drivers from TP link, and the Qualcomm Atheros Drivers and nothing made a difference. I bought a better antenna and that didn't fix anything either. I really am considering returning it, as my old USB WiFi dongle is performing way better.

Other Thoughts: Disappointing.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: None

Cons: Poor reception regardless of antenna positioning. Three antennas seem to be a gimmick. Replaced this with a USB dongle WiFi card and went from 2 bars to 5 bars instantly.

Updated to all the latest drivers from the internet. Tried some other steps that were recommended in forums. Nothing worked.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Way better than my USB 5Ghz adapter

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Stable
Fast
Works

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I can't test range due to my incredibly small room (5 bars though at 10ft xP )
My connection is 180Mbit/sec Ethernet from my router and 170Mbit from this adapter. I'd say that's well within standards. If its on sale, and you need/ want an internal adapter I'd get this one.

2 out of 5 eggsFlaky piece of garbage

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Comes with low profile bracket. Affordable if it worked like advertised (see below).

Cons: Has problems staying connected to 5Ghz despite 4 or 5 "bars". Loses "internet access" even when connected. Randomly loses connection or access even on normal 2.4Ghz. channels, though slightly better than 5Ghz.

Other Thoughts: 4 other computers/phones can stay connected to 5Ghz (Asus RT-N66U) without issue, so it's not from the router. Used wifi analyzer to find open channels or potential conflicts... none found. Tried different PCI-express slot, no luck. Not sure it is worth the trouble/cost to return to have it maybe happen again.

5 out of 5 eggsHighly recommend

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Reasonable price, significantly improved signal

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: This thing has made my life so much better, just had to log on and write a review. Been using it for over a year now and it never drops on me, my work PC is stashed away in a corner on a different floor from my router and this card picks up the signal beautifully while several other of my USB adapters were unable to.

1 out of 5 eggsDrivers are not digitally signed

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: It looks nice.

Cons: This product says it is compatible with Windows 7 64 bit. However, when I installed it, Windows said the drivers were not digitally signed and so it wouldn't work. I tried uninstalling and installing older drivers from TP's website and had no such luck.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

We are sorry to see that this device hasn't worked out for you.

If you haven't done so already, then I would suggest trying to download this driver and installing it with your WDN4800.

http://www.tp-link.us/resources/software/TL-WDN4800_Driver_V1_140506.zip

The chipset for this device is using the Atheros AR9380.

If you are able to find drivers for this chipset then you can try these as well.

We do have a 24 hour technical support team that you may contact and you may also feel free to contact me directly at howard.he@tp-link.com for any issues or concerns.

I hope we can help you resolve this issue and get this device up and running.

Best Regards!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Simple to install

Cons: Having to screw antennas to the back of the computer

Other Thoughts: I wanted to write a review of this product as I own one that I've had for several years. I previously installed in a computer I built that was running Win XP and I kept having problems as the adapter would stop working after long periods of idleness. I recently upgraded and built a new system with Win 8 and installed wdn4800 onto that machine. The adapter has worked fantastic ever since I installed it. I was really frustrated at first with the adapter but ever since installing it on a Win 8 system, it has worked perfectly. My wireless router is downstairs and the wdn4800 adapter is upstairs and draws a strong signal consistently. I am very happy with this adapter.

5 out of 5 eggsSo fast you will soil yourself

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: I called TWC and told them I needed a new modem. When I got it my usb wireless card proved how bad it was so I got this baby. The dual band adapter is so fast I have been able to win all of my computer games for the most part. No longer is lag an issue.

Cons: n/a

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Unlike some users, I had a plug-and-play experience, and I've been consistently impressed and satisfied with the range and speed. I've owned this for several years.

Cons: None for ME anyway.

Other Thoughts: Don't point your antennae at the wireless network. That's not how it works. Imagine sliding a CD around the antenna. You want the CD edge to be pointed at the wireless network.

Because this is a high-gain unit, it has a greater range, but a TIGHTER range (Not a doughnut, but a disc instead). These users with range problems could very well be in a location where they need the extra range, but they could have arranged the antennae wrong.
