5 out of 5 eggsBang for your buck

Pros: This device has an incredible range for its price and size. It also has great speed.

Cons: I don't know if it is my router or the TL-WDN3200 but, the internet on my computer will stop working for a moment. It says I am still connected but, The internet will not work.

Other Thoughts: Good little device

4 out of 5 eggsGreat product w/ driver issues

Pros: Works as intended with decent speeds.. Came with free cradle.. Mediatek has a stable driver dated 8/13/2014

Cons: TP link has not updated their drivers since '13 and it is not stable wifi would disconnect when under load. Windows installs a driver that is different but doesnt see 5G... You have to goto mediatek site and download the updated driver for the RT5X7X and it fixes all the issues.

Other Thoughts: Deducting one egg for tplink being lazy with driver updates. They should just post mediateks update so people do not have to go look for it.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked Well - For short time

Pros: I purchased this last year when it was on sale. I have a dual band router and wanted a spare. Tested it with TP-Link Dual Band router when this came in last year and found it had good range and speed. Drivers installed and was connected in 30 seconds. Put back in package since I bought for a spare.

Cons: My other adapter quit working a few weeks ago so I pulled this off the shelf - it was new but had been sitting for a year so the warranty is expired. No problem when I plugged in the adapter 4 weeks ago. Very good speed and excellent signal - for 4 weeks that is. Adapter went completely dead a few days ago. Glad I did not buy more of these.

Other Thoughts: I have several TP-Link routers and adapters. Never had a problem until now. May have been just a bad one in a batch but I won't buy anymore TP-Link Dual Band adapters. Was inexpensive for dual band, but expensive when you consider I got 4 weeks of use out of it.

5 out of 5 eggsServed its purpose

Pros: It worked as intended and significantly increased my internet speed. Tapping into both the 5gHz and 2.4gHz bands with two antennas via dual banding was significantly better than my laptop wifi.

Cons: It's a tad big for a laptop. I use my laptop on my laptop/couch/everywhere/etc.etc... So naturally I dropped my laptop on its side and the adapter bent at the USB connection, breaking open the plastic. I didn't realize that I could've just snapped it back together, so I kept using it like that, and even with the bent connector it worked. Unfortunately it fell again on the adapter and it bent at like 50-60 degrees, so I then had the insight to snap the adapter shell shut (should've done sooner) and I think because it was bent so much, I snapped the usb connection and it stopped working.

Long story short/Lesson Learned: I recommend snapping the enclosure back together as soon as it breaks open, if it does. Also, a piece of tape around it might increase durability so that it isn't able to split. one round of duct tape or two thinner wraps of electrical tape or something like that should help its durability.

4 out of 5 eggsGood USB Network Dongle

Pros: This is a good device if you are looking for a simple to use standard network adapter. It's a dual band device and the price point is very reasonable. It has a sleek yet sturdy design and basically just looks like a flash drive!

-802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz
-802.11 a/n 5GHz
-Easy connect WPS button
- 64/128 bit WEP, WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, 802.1x
-5.15-5.35GHz, 5.745-5.825GHz
-Omnidirectional antenna

All in all setup was a breeze for me. I was already hooked up to LAN when I plugged the device in. Windows found the drivers online and I was connected to wireless inside of a minute. It was great! If you aren't already connected to a network then there is a CD in the box, or you can download the latest drivers online (as per usual). Tested this on 2.4GHz and 5GHz, the router is located one room down and one room North of the room my computer is in.

Network Strength was good on 2.4GHz and I was getting speeds close to the average of other network adapters that I've used around 26MBps. The ping was also very good at 14ms.

Network strength was not great on the 5GHz channel, but signal penetration at the channel is worse compared to 2.4GHz. Ping was around 14ms here as well, but network speed was down to around 20MBps.

Cons: There aren't too many cons with this device overall it is very good and a very good price point. I don’t like internal antennas, they simply don’t work as well as an external one. I wouldn't mind paying an extra few bucks for an external. Also the protective cap for the USB plug is kind of loose, if you are transporting there is possibility of losing the cap entirely.

Other Thoughts: This is not a review of the wireless configuration utility, I always advocate a minimum number of application layers to accomplish the job, so if there are windows drivers (which there are) that is all that is needed.

Overall this is a good device at a reasonable price, I would recommend it to a friend.

5 out of 5 eggsDeserves the fifth star

Pros: Effective and simple to use. Just pop in the disc to install the drivers and you're done. However I didn't use the in-house software. I'll stick with windows, thanks.

Thing is quick - for 25 bucks I expected a flimsy piece that would get me by, but this is a long lasting part if I ever saw it. To give an example, via steam I downloaded on my laptop (with no external adapters) at about 3-4.5 MB/s. I never pushed past that. On the desktop using this adapter (both computers are 3 feet from each other so that's not a factor), I peak at ~7.2, and hover in the 5's. Maybe I just got lucky but I'll take it.

Surprisingly durable. I pushed the desktop closer to a table bar than I would have liked. I heard a crack and and saw the adapter on the ground with the usb port angled awkwardly. My heart sank, and I figured I would have to buy another one. However, I pushed on the jutting out face plate, and it snapped back in - in doing so the port reoriented itself and it doesn't appear to have even caused any jiggling or cracks, just an accident the thing was prepared for.

To follow up from the above paragraph, the included usb plug is very handy, rather than keeping the thing jutting out in the open to be further smacked into things by my ignorance. I now have it resting comfortably on the desktop itself, so all is well. It's thoughtful that they included it, in my eyes.

Cons: None to speak of

Other Thoughts: For the price, you can't go wrong. I could easily see paying more for this, but I'm glad I didn't have to. If I ever need another adapter, I won't think twice about getting this.

5 out of 5 eggsworks great!

Pros: Easy install. Faster speeds. Longer range

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: This really sped up my 2 year old i3 laptop, and increased the range. From downstairs east side of a large house, to upstairs, west side. I have a good, dual band router, and like being able to switch between 2.4, and 5.0 GHz, although its really not needed...either band is very fast. I really like the free cradle that came with it too.

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute junk

Pros: Its small.

Cons: Completely unreliable
Connection seems to interrupt intermittently causing pausing in screen sharing apps.
Died in under a year.

Other Thoughts: I don't know why I didn't just stick with a name brand that I trust.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat little Wifi Trasciever

Pros: Reliable, Fast Setup, good speed, Dual Band, Extension USB Extension Cord for clearer signal,

Cons: Needs Cradle, gets warm (As all do), cover cannot be stored on the unit. Uses small CD rom for driver. Not all drives can read these.

Other Thoughts: The best thing about this is the Effortless compatibility for this unit with any computer using windows 7 or 8.1 software. Plug and play with 8.1 but must have driver installed with Win 7 64 bit. USB Extension is a must and a Cradle would be really nice. But this is a solid unit that can be trusted for all types of wireless needs. Got good signal across my entire house even through mortal bathroom wall.

4 out of 5 eggsA Solid Deal

Pros: 1. Range is decent
2. Dual band
3. Plug n play
4. Software adds functionality
5. Worked flawlessly
6. Adaptor included
7. Speed is as advertised
8. Speed does not drop off fast
9. Price

TP-Link has a solid product here. I live in a large house, and have the router on one wall. I have four routers that I tested the product with. All four worked without problems. Both the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz bands worked. The 5.0 GHz band dropped off first, but it took some distance to go away. The adaptor is nice, because it gives you access from a distance. I used it in a Windows 8.1, 7, Vista and XP machine. I did have to install drivers on Vista and XP. It was plug and play on Windows 7 and 8.1. I tried it with Ubuntu and it worked as well. The through put is advertised as 300 Mbps on each channel. My results were close to this. The software gives you more control. This is especially useful if you need to change channels.

Cons: The size of the unit
2. No AC band for newer routers.
There are not many flaws. Most computers today are laptops. This unit is much better for a desktop because of its size. It is uncomfortable to use with a laptop on your lap. It just sticks out too far. Routers are moving to towards the 802.11 AC, and this is really a last generation unit, though this will not be finalized until 2015.

Other Thoughts: Transfer rates were good. The transfer rate near the router was 5.0 GB in about 2 minutes. Moving about 30 feet from the router, the same transfer dropped to 2 minutes and 30 seconds. 60 feet away and through a floor dropped the rate to 3 minutes 10 seconds. This is not too surprising. I did get better results (a little not much) with a high end D-link router. The older Cisco unit was the slowest of all. This router will overheat and stop working after 2 or 3 days as well. It is more a back-up.
Like I said earlier, this router is best for desktop applications. One of the reasons for the decent transfer rates over long distances is because of the size of the antennas in it. It is too much of a hassle for a laptop. The thing is most laptops come with built in wireless antennas, so maybe it does not make a difference.

The price at $25.00 is very good and makes it a good deal. I did not have the problems with failures that others have reported. I did run it night and day for two weeks without a problem. I have used in multiple machines. Your mileage may vary.

So who should think about this unit? Someone with a desktop. Apartment dwellers and very crowded (lot of wireless networks) buildings/settings also would make this appealing. If you cannot use the 2.4 GHz band the 5.0 GHz band will probably be your friend. The transfer rates are the same. If you are looking for the bleeding edge – this is not it. It is, however, very functional and a great deal.
