5 out of 5 eggslaptop connects now

Pros: My Dell Studio laptop's internal Wi-Fi adaptor software always had malfunction issues with every Visa update. After plugging in this USB and running the software this TP-Link solved all of my connection issues. I own several TP Link products and they are all great.

Cons: none

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not connect at 300Mbps

Pros: None

Cons: I have a dual band router that will allow this device to connect as 300Mbps, but the adapter will only connect at 144Mbps now matter if I use Windows 7 to connect the adapter to the router or use their utility software to connect to the router. My router is less then 10 ft away from my test bench with no walls in the way, so it's not a distance or structure interference causing the low connection speed.

Other Thoughts: To good to be true for the money.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: I now own 6 of these, gave away 2 as gifts all 6 are working great, as well or better than a PCI Express with antennas I have in another machine I have. Easy to use just plug in and go Win 10 auto installs the drivers.

Cons: The only con I can find is I have lost 2 because they are so small and come out of my pocket so easy, need a little string on them like the USB drives to put on a key chain.

2 out of 5 eggsIt's decent

Pros: -It allows you to connect to wireless networks

Cons: -It's slow
-I'm getting 200KPS download speed when I usually get 2MBS download speed on my laptop
-Starting to get slower by the day

Other Thoughts: I used to get 700KBS download speed with this when I get 2MBS download speed on my laptop. I tested this when I first got it, but now the speed is going down. I now get 200KBS download speed. I do not understand what is going on, but save some money and sped it on a PCIE wireless networking card instead of a USB.

1 out of 5 eggsThis Stinks Drops Signal

Pros: Small USB High Speed Network Adapter

Cons: Constantly Drops Wireless Signal's

Other Thoughts: I have used TPLink wireless adapters 150 speed that continue to work great! I thought I would take a look the newer models 300 speed but it is terrible constantly drops the signal I am very discussed with this purchase. I will keep buying the 150 usb adapters they work great but stay away from this one.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine on any modern linux kernel

Pros: Don't believe the reviews from other users that this hardware doesn't work on Linux. This hardware uses the rtl8192cu module which has been included upstream since March of 2014 and since backported into all LTS kernels. No need for any special driver. Just plug in and it just works.

5 out of 5 eggsA terrific product!

Pros: The on-board wireless in my 7 year old laptop went south. This unit had favorable reviews and was on sale, so I bought it.
Installation in Windows was a piece of cake. I always download drivers to get the most recent version and save to my hard drive. I inserted the unit, brought up Device Manager, clicked on the on-board wireless, clicked on Disable, clicked on this unit, clicked on Update Driver, browsed to my OS, clicked on OK, and the installation took just a couple of seconds.

Cons: Now for the bad news – there are no native Linux drivers on the disk or on the Web site.
I use EasyBCD to dual-boot 64-bit Win7 and 64-bit Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca. I booted into Linux and tried the ndiswrapper method; no go. I downloaded the driver from the Realtek Web site; again no go. I searched for and tried other recommendations; still no go.
On a hunch, I booted with the Linux Mint live DVD. It detected this unit, and I connected to my wireless router. So I booted into Linux, backed up my files, booted into Win7, deleted the Linux partitions and formatted the free space. I again booted the live DVD, connected to my wireless router and did a fresh install. Finally, I restored my backed-up files. Everything went smoothly.
Bottom line: getting this unit to function in Linux is likely to be a royal pain. On the other hand, it is worth the work.

Other Thoughts: This unit rescued my old laptop. Its small size is a bonus.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for Cheap

Pros: Got it for $10. For what I paid it works great. The range is decent, the speed is decent. No connection problems where I use it, which admittedly isn't that far from the router. It's small, perfect for use with laptops.
It has a WPS button. That's pretty awesome for such a small, inexpensive adapter.

Cons: Not the greatest max bandwidth, but for what I paid I'm not complaining.
2.4 GHz only. Again, not really a con for it's price range.

Other Thoughts: If you only use your network for browsing the internet, streaming movies or downloads, then this adapter will work just fine. If you're into file sharing and high speed is important to you, then you might want to consider an adapter with a higher max bandwidth.
Honestly, if you can get this adapter for $10, then it deserves a 5 Egg rating. But for over $20, it gets 4.
