5 out of 5 eggsBest router for the money

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 Dual Band Wireless N600 Router, Gigabit, 2.4GHz 300Mbps+5GHz 300Mbps, 2 USB port, IP QoS, Wireless On/Off Switch

Pros: Best router we've ever owned
- Extremely easy to setup
- Very strong wifi signal
- Can handle 10+ devices (phones, laptops, tablets, chromecast ...) with no problem

Cons: - Signal is so strong that it interfere with my cable TV despite being more than 3 ft away from the TV. We have to place a picture frame in between the router and the TV to eliminate the problem
- Stock firmware didn't seem to get the most out of this great router. I heard that the latest Gargoyle firmware (1.7.1) makes this one a rock solid router. Gargoyle also has bandwidth monitoring, better Quality of Services (QoS), etc. I might give gargoyle a try in the future

Other Thoughts: Very happy with this purchase. I'll definitely introduce this router to my friends in the future!

2 out of 5 eggsFrustrated...

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 Dual Band Wireless N600 Router, Gigabit, 2.4GHz 300Mbps+5GHz 300Mbps, 2 USB port, IP QoS, Wireless On/Off Switch

Pros: Performance is very good.
2.4GHz range is pretty good. A little better than the Netgear router it replaced.

Cons: Instability. My 2.4GHz connection dies every day or two and requires a reboot to fix it. the 5GHz wireless signal seems solid. Not doing anything crazy in my settings. A few static IPs and some port forwarding. This shouldn't be happening :(

1 out of 5 eggsNO MORE TPLINK

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 Dual Band Wireless N600 Router, Gigabit, 2.4GHz 300Mbps+5GHz 300Mbps, 2 USB port, IP QoS, Wireless On/Off Switch

Pros: None

Cons: Everything. I don't know where to start. For some reason I purchased 3 TPLINK products in the last year or so...price I guess? A wireless USB adapter, a wireless PCI-E card and this router. NONE OF THEM WORK PROPERLY! They all have issues with stability. No firmware configurations will fix any of the problems. I spent hours on the floor in my room trying to get this router setup. At first setup it seemed very fast. Range seemed ok. After several days the router just stops working. I would restart it and still nothing. Even when restarting it wouldn't fully come back. It would go from 15+ MBps when first being setup to less than 1. And I would restart and it would maybe go back to 2 and still be unstable. I will NEVER buy another TPLINK product. I tried to save a little money and instead I got huge headaches and wasted so much time.

Other Thoughts: Eventually purchased an ASUS PCI-E wireless card that has been stable and awesome. Cost a little more, but it actually works! TPLINK has serious firmware/software issues.

5 out of 5 eggsGood router, be sure to update the firmware.

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 Dual Band Wireless N600 Router, Gigabit, 2.4GHz 300Mbps+5GHz 300Mbps, 2 USB port, IP QoS, Wireless On/Off Switch

Pros: Good hardware, supports 2.4HGz and 5GHz, can stream video from online and also across my wireless to apple tv and popcorn hour. Be sure to upgrade to the latest firmware (available on manufacturer website)

Cons: didnt see much online about custom firmware for this router / chipset... doesnt really need it though. the range could be better...

Other Thoughts: There are a few tweaks to the configs you need the latest firmware to be able to change. Might not be the best router for people who are not tech savvy... some configuration needed to make this perform best. see what channel other routers near you are running on and try to get your own channel (especially if you are in an apartment)

5 out of 5 eggsTP-Link

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 Dual Band Wireless N600 Router, Gigabit, 2.4GHz 300Mbps+5GHz 300Mbps, 2 USB port, IP QoS, Wireless On/Off Switch

Pros: Awesome router. Upon receiving the router I flashed it with DDWRT. It took about 1 hour to configure the settings. I restarted the router and it has not reset since. I get no errors on any transmissions. I supports guest vlans and has the ability to separate them from internal resources. Runs cool and is perfect for high data transfers. I transferred 39 gigs in about 12 minutes.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I did not try the stock firmware, but DDWRT for the router gives the router many more options than the stock firmware

5 out of 5 eggsTP-Link wdr 3600

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 Dual Band Wireless N600 Router, Gigabit, 2.4GHz 300Mbps+5GHz 300Mbps, 2 USB port, IP QoS, Wireless On/Off Switch

Pros: I knew I would be replacing the firmware upon receiving the router. I initially installed Gargoyle as there was more positive reviews, but I quickly discovered that it doesn't support guest networks with encryption. I easily replaced it with DDWRT V24-SP2(03/25/13) std. works like a champ.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: It's definitely larger than other routers I have had, but it feels solid. You can replace the antennas if necessary, but the range in my 3300 sq ft home is very good. I have it on the second floor, and never drop below 4 bars at the furthest point.

1 out of 5 eggsSLOOOOW

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 Dual Band Wireless N600 Router, Gigabit, 2.4GHz 300Mbps+5GHz 300Mbps, 2 USB port, IP QoS, Wireless On/Off Switch

Pros: .....?

Cons: I replaced a $14 netgear router I had with this unit and so far it is a joke. It is completely up to date with the latest firmware and gets 1/10th of the speed and 1/2 the range of the cheap router. I expected more for $80. I will continue to monitor and see if it improves, if not I will be returning.

5 out of 5 eggsBang for the buck router

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 Dual Band Wireless N600 Router, Gigabit, 2.4GHz 300Mbps+5GHz 300Mbps, 2 USB port, IP QoS, Wireless On/Off Switch

Pros: Firmware is stable, no need to reboot so far.
Stable connection, no drop outs.
Best performance and features for the sale price.
20+ clients connected without any slow down.
Stock firmware gives best wifi and USB drive performance ( 11 MB/s)
Good enough to cover 2-level 4000sqft home. Even with 2-3 bar signal I can get 33Mbps at farthest part of my house.
Seamless streaming and audio play back from my NAS drive.
2 year warranty.

Cons: slightly week range but there are other models available at extra premium.

Other Thoughts: Tried different build of DD-WRT to see the performance drop 50% with USB drive access and wifi band width as well. So put back stock firmware which is well optimized to give best performance.
Will give a try on OpenWRT or Gargoyle later when newer version is available

This router should work well for most of the users unless you have defective one. This is my first TP-LINK router and I'm impressed with their qualify.
Try different channels to see which gives you best range and performance for your home. I use InSSIDer to check the wifi signals.

I was in-between ASUS RT-N66U and this model, glad that I made the right decision to select this model which is one-third of the price.

1 out of 5 eggsWireless unstable. Reboot constantly!

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 Dual Band Wireless N600 Router, Gigabit, 2.4GHz 300Mbps+5GHz 300Mbps, 2 USB port, IP QoS, Wireless On/Off Switch

Pros: Easy to install with only a few basic questions.

Cons: Have 4 laptops in house at any given time. Laptops randomly loose internet requiring a manual wireless reset via on/off switch on back of router. Funny how it randomly drops connections. My wife and I can both be online and one of us will get dropped within an hour or two and the other will be fine for another hour. When this happens simply turinig off laptop wireless card power off/on will not fix the problem. I am forced to reset wireless on router. We have to reset wireless daily multiple times to keep everything running, not worth the hastle! This is going to be returned...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat router

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 Dual Band Wireless N600 Router, Gigabit, 2.4GHz 300Mbps+5GHz 300Mbps, 2 USB port, IP QoS, Wireless On/Off Switch

Pros: Cheap! Fast! handles my 125Mbs connection with ease. I stream 1080p video as well on the 5Ghz channel without issue to 2 PCs. So far a rock solid router.

Cons: Cant think of any

Other Thoughts: Some people are saying the wireless N is weak. Honestly it is a bit weak probably die to the 50mw radio power. However I live in a pretty EM crowded area, at first when I first hooked up the router to test it, it was on my desk and the range wouldn't even reach a few rooms away. However once I moved it to a shelf about 5 feet off the ground which is about 2 feet from anything electronic. The range increased to easily encompass my apartment. As I said in the Pros section, I stream 1080pm video with ease to multiple computers and sometimes devices at the same time without a hiccup.
