2 out of 5 eggsTerrible connection consistency

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-PA2010KIT AV200 Nano Powerline Adapter Starter Kit, up to 200Mbps

Pros: It is the only alternative to terrible wi-fi signals and when it works, it's as fast as my Ethernet. I can't use Ethernet unless I drill a hole to the level below me where the router is to connect it. Which is a lot more work than I'm willing to do.

Cons: This thing is absolutely awful. It intermittently will just stop it's connection to it's partner and I'll have to go all the way downstairs and unplug it (I know, first world problems right?). You will have to do this at least twice for 6 hour sessions even if you're away from your computer, so interrupted downloads are common. It's possible my product was defective and I got unlucky but I don't know. I do know that I'm extremely dissatisfied and discouraged since the only alternative is reducing my home's value just for better internet connection.

Other Thoughts: You're probably better off making a connection through Ethernet. Much more reliable.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Little Device!

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-PA2010KIT AV200 Nano Powerline Adapter Starter Kit, up to 200Mbps

Pros: These things are the cat's meow. I was REALLY skeptical but they work, REALLY well. The size of the adapter is pretty small, I'd say about the size of a deck of cards with a plug on the back. They seem to be built well and the lights on the front are not that bright and annoying. I do not hear any weird noise coming from them, like some devices or wall-warts that you plug in. Basically plug and play, I didn't have any issues with them working for my PS4 or random laptops. All worked fine and gaming was good too, pretty low lag, etc.

Cons: I honestly can't think of any, if I have to nitpick I would say that speeds are nowhere near 200mbps. But this could be due to my old wiring and other things using the circuits. I was able to get around 50mbps.

Other Thoughts: When I first synced the pair up, I made sure that I was on the same circuit in my basement. I figured that it would make it easier for the devices to communicate. After performing some basic tests, watching YouTube videos and running some speed tests I was confident that they would work upstairs. And they did without an issue. I don't get the full advertised speed out of them, but honestly, my wifi connection was even worse, so I'll take it. I am able to get around 50mbps (sometimes less) all the way in my top floor. This is MORE than enough for online gaming, netflix HD or other general internet activity. Having said that, you will not want to use these adapters to transfer large data through-out your network, but for basic lan/internet tasks they work great. Now we'll see how they hold up. I've been happy with most TP-Link products in the past and I'm sure that these will be the same!

4 out of 5 eggsWork great, 200Mbps misleading

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-PA2010KIT AV200 Nano Powerline Adapter Starter Kit, up to 200Mbps

Pros: Work well, pairing is very easy.

Cons: Speeds are not as advertised.

Other Thoughts: Tested with virtually direct connect via test plugs/lines, the max ive been able to get these to do is around 70mbps. This is decent for what they are, and these actually have been a bit more robust for me than other models as far as working with inferior wiring, distance. These are limited by a 100mbps Ethernet connection and due to older homeplug spec they are on the lower end of speeds compared to others. For the price these work well and if you don't expect 200mbps, you will like these for what they are.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for those wifi dead spots

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-PA2010KIT AV200 Nano Powerline Adapter Starter Kit, up to 200Mbps

Pros: - Excellent range
- Fast speed
- Great price
- Easy to config

Cons: - Flimsy plug (I think it has more to do with my own wall plugs)

Other Thoughts: Bought these a while back because the way my wi-fi router sits in my house it doesn't reach the other end of my house. Never really had any issues with the device other than maybe 2x where I had to reset the adapters but even that was no big deal and literally took 1 minute to do

3 out of 5 eggsWorks most of the time

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-PA2010KIT AV200 Nano Powerline Adapter Starter Kit, up to 200Mbps

Pros: Very inexpensive. This lets me get internet in a WiFi dead zone in my house. Provides adequate speeds for 1080p YouTube videos and low latency for games.

Cons: Every once in a while it will lose connection and take several seconds to several minutes to resync. This is the only problem I have with it, but it is extremely annoying when it happens.

Other Thoughts: Next time I think I'll spend a little bit more to get a better one.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-PA2010KIT AV200 Nano Powerline Adapter Starter Kit, up to 200Mbps

Pros: This was my first experience using a powerline adapter. I used it to put a wireless access point in my garage. These have been very reliable. I would highly recommend these!

I followed the instructions and set them up close together then moved the second one to its final destination and they found each other again without issue

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggswork great

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-PA2010KIT AV200 Nano Powerline Adapter Starter Kit, up to 200Mbps

Pros: works as advertised.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: Only used these to extend sub 20 megabit internet to areas of the house, not to hide a server. I'll defer to other reviewers who did want full speed. 20 megabit and under is working flawlessly!

2 out of 5 eggsWeekly reset

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-PA2010KIT AV200 Nano Powerline Adapter Starter Kit, up to 200Mbps

Pros: When it works, it works fine!
I have tried these in two houses now. One was 1960s construction, I think, and the older house I am in now must have been built in the early 1900s. The devices have worked in both houses, however in the older house some electrical outlets provide MUCH better performance than others, and some outlets can't stand having both the powerline adapter and another device plugged in at the same time. In the other house with newer wiring, I could have the adapter and several other devices plugged into the same outlet without issue.

Cons: Unfortunately about once a week, the devices stop working and I have to unplug both of them to get them to start working again. Sometimes when this happens, I have to unplug them multiple times to get them to work (but usually just once).
They often stop working right when I start using the network more (e.g. for video games), and this is exactly when I DON'T want to have the network interrupted, so the devices are really not good enough and I will be replacing them.

4 out of 5 eggsHas worked well in my case for several years

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-PA2010KIT AV200 Nano Powerline Adapter Starter Kit, up to 200Mbps

Pros: Extremely easy installation, doesn't seem to bottleneck network at all

Cons: Takes up half an outlet and apparently doesn't like surge protectors/extension cords

Other Thoughts: Apparently there's always a "your mileage may vary" caveat with these due to the wide variance in home wiring, but these have worked great for me in two different residences, with a switch connected on one end to enable me to connect three or four devices to my network. No latency or speed issues at all. Literally just plugged them in on either end and they worked. Haven't had any drops I'm aware of in my case, but perhaps due to the newer and smaller residences these have been used in.

3 out of 5 eggsNot terrible, but not the best solution.

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-PA2010KIT AV200 Nano Powerline Adapter Starter Kit, up to 200Mbps

Pros: - Easy to deploy
- Fast in short distances
- Seems to transfer breakers flawlessly (see Cons)
- Great for smaller needs (see Cons)

Cons: - After a short distances across the house (same breaker) device because very erratic with throughput.
- While they claim 100 Mbps (approximated) device can only deliver 40 Mbps in my usage once I went 2-3 rooms away.
- I think this would be fine as long as you didn't want to do any large bandwidth task, the problem I experienced is once I attempted to stream a hefty video the pings immediately increased, meaning these have no built-in QoS. You would not want to expand these beyond 2-3 unless you want to deal with latency.
