4 out of 5 eggsTP-Link TL-SG108

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG108 Unmanaged 10/100/1000Mbps 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Metal Case, Power-Saving

Pros: Excellent device for sharing network in the home with the speed of hard wired connections. Very Nice compact design. Takes up very little room on the desk.

Cons: Wish the connections were on the back and the lights were on the front. But who ever looks at the lights anyway?

Other Thoughts: The metal case is very solid and sturdy.

5 out of 5 eggsRock Solid.

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG108 Unmanaged 10/100/1000Mbps 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Metal Case, Power-Saving

Pros: Literally rock solid. Small switch in a metal enclosure, heavy for its size. Could probably park an Edsel on it.

Functionally, it's flawless so far. I have one on my office network, and two others operating at clients' locations.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The metal enclosure is undoubtedly much more efficient at dissipating heat than a plastic one would be. It runs cool, merely warm to the touch.

The switch this replaced ran hot, which may explain why it failed.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG108 Unmanaged 10/100/1000Mbps 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Metal Case, Power-Saving

Pros: Great switch/es. I have 3- TL-SG108s in my home network and everything runs so much faster and smoother. Jumbo frames, MAC table, buffer, 2GB- 1GB up/ 1 GB down stream per port, 8 ports- 16 GB max throughput and some power savings to boot. Metal case, easy mounting. What's not to like?

Cons: None so far :)

Other Thoughts: They make up the GB back bone for my LAN, 4 pc's, NAS/ Media/ file/ print/ back up server, lap top, Smart BD, PS3, TV's and wifi AP. I can stream 3 different movies to 3 (so far that I have tried) devices/ computers simultaneously with no stutter or buffering. I am extremely pleased with these switches. They do their job well, good construction and so far reliable. Great product for a good price, just the way I like it! Get a couple, at $30.00 or less and free shipping? It's a No Brainer. Good luck and happy "GB" networking :)

4 out of 5 eggsTP-Link TL-SG108 Unmanaged Gigabit 8-Port Switch

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG108 Unmanaged 10/100/1000Mbps 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Metal Case, Power-Saving

Pros: - Metal Case
- Gigabit Speeds
- Reliable
- Inexpensive
- 8-Ports

Cons: - No Frills
- Single Activity/Speed Indicator Light per Port.

Other Thoughts: After having these TP-Link 8-Port unmanaged switches running on gigabit networks for more than a year, I am happy with them. They are reliable and none of the ports or power supplies have failed (no failures of any kind). The cases are metal and sturdy. These switches can be wall mounted and the indicator lights do work. I notice no slowdowns in network data transfer speeds with the switches in place and uplink/downlink speeds are gigabit for full duplex.

These TP-Link unmanaged switches compare very favorably to other switches from Netgear, D-Link, and ZyXEL that I have evaluated. The TP-Link unmanaged switches cost quite a bit less than either the Netgear or D-Link unmanaged switches.

These switches don't have a lot of frills. Everything that you need is there, just nothing else. I would prefer a separate activity and speed light on each port. The single light on each port does work and so that is just me nit-picking.

In conclusion, if you want a reliable, 8-port, unmanaged switch with a metal case at a good price, I recommend this TP-Link TL-SG108 switch. It gets the job done.

5 out of 5 eggs100m router gets to stay

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG108 Unmanaged 10/100/1000Mbps 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Metal Case, Power-Saving

Pros: I ran into performance issues when setting up a home fileserver. I was about to invest in a new wireless router with gigabit ports and remembered I had this sitting on the shelf from an impulse buy at micro center. Because of the Mac address table in this device the traffic doesn't need to go through the show router anymore. This will give you gigabit speeds to anything you plug into it that has a gigabit port.

Cons: won't get me coffee

4 out of 5 eggsswitches make the world a better place

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG108 Unmanaged 10/100/1000Mbps 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Metal Case, Power-Saving

Pros: works great, sturdy, good looking, mounts well, does not get hot, good price

Cons: I left home for a week and left the switch on. i came back and it would not go to certain websites. I rebooted the switch and things worked fine. This is not a big deal, but it is something to note. I think it is worthy of an egg removal as its stability over prolonged use is now in question.
