Quick Setup, Easy Deployment

Setup is facilitated by the built-in range extender button, quickly pairing the TL-WA850RE with your main router after simultaneously pressing its WPS button. If your router does not have a WPS button, you can access the quick setup mode through the web browser-based user interface. Login credentials are retained internally after setup, allowing you to relocate as needed to generate ideal coverage.

Wi-Fi Your Wired Gadgets

After the range extender is set up, users can connect wired devices such as Blu-ray® players, gaming consoles, DVRs, and Internet TVs to the extender via the Ethernet port. As a result, those devices are added to the whole wireless network and can access the Internet.

2 out of 5 eggsNice looks bad range

Pros: ease of setup, nice looks

Cons: hard to find location to connect to router

Other Thoughts: In the area where the signal from the router is 50%-60% the device won't connect to the router and extend the range. In the farthest point from the router where the device would connect, the range of router alone is the same as with the extender connected. I don't find any benefits of having it connected. I loved the looks and ease of setup just disappointed of the range.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for checking out our Range Extender.

The most ideal location for the Range Extender is where the RE is getting about 3 signal strength bars.

Less then three may give you a slow speed or connection.

It is also best to keep in mind that other objects like tables or desks may obstruct the signal and give you a poor connection.

We are glad to see that you where able to setup the device just find and that the looks where rather pleasing.

Please give us a call if you have any questions or concerns.

Best Regards!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: -Provides steady connection
-Small - Fits easily in a surge protector
-Easy setup

Cons: -None found yet

Other Thoughts: I have this poor little guy extending a WiFi connection with the source router over 500ft away. I am using it well out of its specifications, and it has performed well so far. Connection is steady with both upload and download. I haven't had to reset it or do any troubleshooting. Great product for the price, and I would buy another like it in a heartbeat.

1 out of 5 eggsNot very good.

Pros: It is clean and has a light. When it initially work I got full signal throughout my home.

Cons: IP Conflicts galore. Listen do not use this plug and play. You must try and configure it. It is a bad device that will replace your router's gateway(aka homepage) and you will run around trying to reset this and that only to find out the extender takes over and messes with all connections to the point even if you restart your router and hardwire to it, you will not be able to get to the router homepage. Then a light bulb will blink and tell you to disable the extender smh.

1 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: Low price, looks pretty. Ok connection while it was working

Cons: Worked ok for about 7 months. Then recently devices associated with it began to be unable to connect to the internet. To fix it I have to unplug the extender and plug it back up which quickly became a hassle. This would happen every day. So I updated the firmware to the latest as of August 1st 2014, reset the device and re-configured it. Next day same thing, cell phones connected to it were unable to browse the internet. Tried resetting the extender again and then associated it with another AP on my network but was unable to. It does not seem to save the configuration at all. SO I will be looking into returning it, although I am not sure if I want another one, what are the chances the second one will work?

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -Fairly simple setup
-Works well for our needs (extending wifi range outdoors as well as to our whole basement using two of these)

Cons: I have no issues myself, though I could see the following as cons:
-Design style may not be your first choice
-As long as it is powered on, it emits a fairly visible blue light

Other Thoughts: If you need to extend your wireless range and want a simple solution, I would recommend this.

5 out of 5 eggsSetup and running within half hour.

Pros: It was easy to setup as I followed the instructions. I went to the website tp-link.us to download recent firmware updates. After completing firmware updates, I finally connection the extender to the wireless router which took less than 2 minutes. Pretty easy and simple. So far no connection dropping. It brought the signal to the other part of the house where it was usually 40% or less (dead). Now it is 90-100%.

Cons: None that I have noticed.

Other Thoughts: I have read other reviews and I still decided to buy this.

As for those who complain about dead domain for sale. You MUST connect to range extender device itself (TP-LINK_XXX), not on your usual internet/wifi. When you connect to the device (TP-LINK_XXX), it will open the login box. If nothing happen, hit the RESET (little hole) button.

I am not IT and yet I understand enough to do what I needed to do. I mostly do web design / programming. Not computer tech stuffs like opening pc and changing parts.
