Extend Your Range

300Mbps Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender – TLWA850RE

TP-LINK's TL-WA850RE is designed to conveniently extend the coverage and improve the signal strength of an existing wireless network to eliminate "dead zones." With 300Mbps wireless N speeds, Range Extender button, miniature size and wall mounting design, extending a wireless network has never been easier. What's more, its Ethernet port allows the TL-WA850RE to act as a wireless adapter to turn a wired device into a wireless one.

300Mbps Range Extender

The TL-WA850RE can vastly expand the coverage of the existing wireless network. With 300Mbps wireless 802.11n speeds, it is ideal for smooth HD video, music streaming, and online gaming.

Quick Setup, Easy Deployment

Setup is facilitated by the built-in range extender button, quickly pairing the TL-WA850RE with your main router after simultaneously pressing its WPS button. If your router does not have a WPS button, you can access the quick setup mode through the web browser-based user interface. Login credentials are retained internally after setup, allowing you to relocate as needed to generate ideal coverage.

Wi-Fi Your Wired Gadgets

After the range extender is set up, users can connect wired devices such as Blu-ray® players, gaming consoles, DVRs, and Internet TVs to the extender via the Ethernet port. As a result, those devices are added to the whole wireless network and can access the Internet.

Smart Signal Indicator Light

Five signal lights represent the current signal strength that TL-WA850RE receives from the existing router. They can help to find the right location to place the range extender and to achieve the best possible coverage and performance.

1 out of 5 eggsAfter 2 years.....

Pros: Fast when it worked. My house is split level and the main router (Archer C7 V1) is down at basement level and this thing definitely extended the range with acceptable speeds to boot.

This is the version 1

Cons: -Gets really hot when there's a lot of internet activity.
-No vents to dissipate the heat.
-It is starting to fail after the 2 yr mark...

Other Thoughts: Everything worked perfect until exactly after 2 yrs... The repeater started disconnecting most of the time. I did what they suggested and named it differently but it still happened. The speed is still the same whenever it works . It was always on a surge protector so it should have been fine in case of any power surges. The warranty is only for 2 yrs and guess when it started failing, after 2 years!?!?! Oh well lesson learned, I really had high hopes for this unit cause I really liked the Archer C7 I was really thinking of sticking with the TP-link brand for everything but this instance made me re-think of other brands...

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for providing your detailed feedback regarding your recent experience with our extender.

We certainly disappointed to hear the unit has started displaying erratic behavior, but due to these recent intermittent issues, we strongly recommend updating to the latest firmware for this model.

3 out of 5 eggsGets the job done--sometimes

Pros: Works most of the time
Really easy setup
Can also be used as a nightlight
Runs cool

Cons: Really throttles the speed.
Sometimes my mobile devices pick up both signals and switch back and forth between this and the actual router, causing the device to go extremely slow.

Other Thoughts: I usually unplug this when I'm not using my desktop so that my portable devices work better.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Christopher,

We thank you for taking the time to review our product and certainly would appreciate the opportunity to help improve your extender's performance.

Due to the fact the same WiFi name (SSID) and password are utilized by the router and extender, this can create confusion among your mobile devices, especially if the extender is within close proximity to the router.

Given the following symptoms, our support team would like to assist with adjusting a few settings from within our device which will in turn, result in faster speeds and a much more stable connection.

At you earliest convenience, please contact our 24/7 Support Team via our hotline number and/or email provided below and an available support agent will be happy to follow up directly to further assist you.

We look forward to your response.

Best Regards!

4 out of 5 eggsThis works great!!

Pros: Small, works, Easy to set up...

Cons: Did not work with a hidden wireless signal

Other Thoughts: Once I allowed my wireless to be open it worked great. I didn't want my wireless signal advertised as that's the first character, but if you're not super conscientious of security this works great. All in all I'd recommend it to friends, which says a lot.

5 out of 5 eggsSurprise - it works great!

Pros: I had a wi-fi coverage issue because I have to use a Centurylink DSL router/wi-fi unit which has notoriously weak wi-fi. I was triggered to buy a cheap, compact extender by a NewEgg email with discount offer on a different brand of extender. Feedback on the offered item was not good, so I bought this one based on price and customer feedback. For the price, I was expecting problems. My Surprise: as I have WPS in the router, all I had to do was plug the extender into the wall power, push the WPS "send" on the router, and push the WPS "receive" on the extender. The units synched immediately. The extender operates as described. My extended wi-fi connections now operate 2- 3 times as fast as before. A complete success; best $20 I ever spent on computer hardware. Here's hoping that it keeps working.

Cons: Just installed; so far, so good. No cons (yet).

Other Thoughts: With the reservation that a $20 extender may not work for ever, I would solidly recommend this unit. I was going to buy a 2nd unit for a friend until I discovered that he had previously bought another extender .

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Extender

Pros: It was very easy to set up. You just log in to it (wirelessly or wired), connect it to your hotspot through the simple GUI, and then decide whether you want to create a new hotspot name or use the existing one. Speeds are great for a range extender. I was getting over 23 Mbps down from my ISP (and only have a top speed of 40) which is more than acceptable for the vast majority of network tasks. The other thing about range extenders is they usually end up in a fairly visible spot in the middle of the house, so it’s nice that this plugs directly into a wall power outlet so you can easily hide it. It has an Ethernet port at the bottom for wired connections, which is handy if you have a network device that can’t use wireless, or works poorly with a wireless connection.
At the price Newegg sells this thing for, it’s a steal. So far, this extender is performing as well as extenders I have purchased at 5x the price.

Cons: Honestly, nothing so far!

Other Thoughts: I tested this under the most demanding conditions I could, streaming 1080p video real-time. I have a HTPC that streams HD video, both from a Plex server, and from a HDHomeRun prime, which serves up HD TV from my cable provider (by using a cable card). It is about 50 feet from my router with at least two walls in between. The connection is rock solid. I am using the wired output from the extender to power the HTPC, and so far zero glitches/dropouts/etc. I am very impressed indeed, as few extenders could handle that amount of real-time data without hiccups.
This is the best TPLink extender I have used, much more reliable than other models, with excellent throughput and reliability.
