1 out of 5 eggsDidn't last - terrible service

This review is from: TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps / 5 GHz 867 Mbps,One-Button Setup, Windows XP / 7 / 8, Plug & Play in Windows 10 (32 bit & 64 bit)

Pros: It's pretty fast when it works

Cons: I got this adapter less than 6 month ago when moving into a new house. We had been using power line adapters that weren't working as fast with the electrical wiring of an older home. Worked perfectly fine until my computer started constantly loosing the device. When first booting it I'd get a message from the utility software that the device was not connect to the computer. I would need to disconnect and reconnect the adapter up to 10 times before my computer wouldn't loose the device. Once it did I'd be fine until the next time I turned off the computer.

That being said the worst part was customer service. I tried a couple of test before calling and installed drivers from scratch manually. I called in to get an RMA. I knew I had to play along and followed the agents instructions but she tried everything to get rid of me. every step she would try get me to hang up and call back. I'm pretty computer savvy so could whatever she was asking me quickly and didn't let her go. Finally I asked for a replacement. She said she was going to escalate to an engineer who would get back to me. I'll wait 2 days but I'm not holding my breath.

Other Thoughts: I've had tp link products in the past. They very inexpensive and perform well while they work but break very quickly. I don't think I'll ever buy one of their products again.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

This review is from: TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps / 5 GHz 867 Mbps,One-Button Setup, Windows XP / 7 / 8, Plug & Play in Windows 10 (32 bit & 64 bit)

Pros: Connects to AC on Netgear router. Drivers work fine on Windows 8.1.

Cons: Had issues with USB 3.0 drivers on desktop, but once that was corrected the adapter connected to router using AC signal.

Other Thoughts: Would purchase again for other household computers.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after 10 minutes

This review is from: TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps / 5 GHz 867 Mbps,One-Button Setup, Windows XP / 7 / 8, Plug & Play in Windows 10 (32 bit & 64 bit)

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Horrible quality
Tech support non-existant
Waited in line for 30 minutes and has hung up on me twice

Other Thoughts: Don't believe the TP-link rep on here. No way to get support for TP-LINK products... Unfortunate at best

2 out of 5 eggsDied after 3 months of use

This review is from: TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps / 5 GHz 867 Mbps,One-Button Setup, Windows XP / 7 / 8, Plug & Play in Windows 10 (32 bit & 64 bit)

Pros: Easy installation. Software is OK I guess. Stable connection after some time.

Cons: Purchased 7/9 began use 7/23, died yesterday, 10/22. Was working fine in the morning. Came home from classes, woke the PC up, and suddenly it doesn't want to connect. Restart PC - light on the stick no longer shows up. No blinking, nothing, as if it isn't connected. I attempted several different ports, with and without its cradle. No use. This thing is dead. Ridiculous.
Was also hellishly slow at first, but seemed to get better. Seemed to work better in my dorm than at home. Beware, it did give me some signs before it died, which I thought was the fault of my university's wifi. It began to load pages extremely slowly, randomly, and youtube videos would stop suddenly and report an error.

Other Thoughts: Still can't find a USB wifi adapter that was actually as stable as this one. Would love suggestions.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked well for a week

This review is from: TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps / 5 GHz 867 Mbps,One-Button Setup, Windows XP / 7 / 8, Plug & Play in Windows 10 (32 bit & 64 bit)

Pros: When it works,it got a link speed of 250mbs on my 2.4ghz channel. It has a cool flashing green light when it is connected.

Cons: Connection became very unstable within 2 weeks.I now have to reset it every 20 minutes for it to even load a page.I also had really bad driver issues because I do not have a cd-rom on my pc.I can barely load a simple page like google after 5+ minutes of usage.I have also contacted TP-Link but I still have not got a response, I was also on hold for about 20 minutes and got hung up on.

Other Thoughts: At first I thought my firewall was blocking it ,but that seems to be not the case.My 10 year old laptop with built-in wifi has a more stable connection then this adapter at the moment.

2 out of 5 eggsHaving a tough time

This review is from: TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps / 5 GHz 867 Mbps,One-Button Setup, Windows XP / 7 / 8, Plug & Play in Windows 10 (32 bit & 64 bit)

Pros: Worked fantastically while it lasted. Got very low latency in-game and fast page loads which is all good.

Cons: About a two months ago the wifi adapter started doing some bad stuff. The connection would sometimes blink in and out and then slow down to a crawl. And then on some occations make my computer freeze and I have to hard reset. Note, I made sure to check that there were other things that were causing this to happen and I narrowed it down to this adapter. I'm pretty sure I got a faulty one for sure, RMAing or replacing soon.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure that most people would not have this experience with this adapter, the reason this is not a one-star review. But in my case I had a bad time with the T4U adapter.

5 out of 5 eggsAddition to my review

This review is from: TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps / 5 GHz 867 Mbps,One-Button Setup, Windows XP / 7 / 8, Plug & Play in Windows 10 (32 bit & 64 bit)

Pros: So this adapter really can hit my routers speeds. I just fiddled with where I put it in my far off room. How far is my room from the router? My room is next to the garage at the back of the house. Thats how good this adapter is. My two laptops both Lenovo Thinkpads (Yoga and a T430 can't hit 58Mbps in my room but this adapter can)

I am on Win 8.1 64 bit. I download driver and just used windows to manage wifi. No need to even use the CD or utilities. Windows just handles it well.

Cons: slightly bulky size but its light. very light actually.

Other Thoughts: Hoping it lasts. I like this thing. Completely saved me from having to buy and wire a long ethernet cable to my gaming room.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

This review is from: TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps / 5 GHz 867 Mbps,One-Button Setup, Windows XP / 7 / 8, Plug & Play in Windows 10 (32 bit & 64 bit)

Pros: Black and not all in your face about design.
Has actually impressed me. I have been able to sustain 6MB/s download speed. I was a bit concerned with some of the reviews but after considering the alternative of going smaller with wifi adapters that don't provide decent speed I decided to close my eyes and order

I have been able to download 50GB of data with 6 MB/s constant. That's equivalent to 40 Mbps which is 15 Mbps slower than wired. I attribute this to the distance between this adapter and our router and my impatience to find a better position for it. Because it is very dependent on where I place it.

Not sure about speeds greater than 50Mbps but rest assured this can reach 50 Mbps speeds if its in the right place.

Cons: A Bit bulky but I guess thats what you get for a reliable high speed chip

Other Thoughts: Happy they included a USB 3.0 extension cable.

1 out of 5 eggsFar slower than it's worth

This review is from: TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps / 5 GHz 867 Mbps,One-Button Setup, Windows XP / 7 / 8, Plug & Play in Windows 10 (32 bit & 64 bit)

Pros: It connects to the internet

Cons: So I bought this because my old TP-LINK TL-WN722N was getting a bit too slow for my liking expecting a boost in internet speed. So far it's been slower than my old internet card, that is, when it decides not to disconnect randomly (which happens so much I can hardly browse google). I confess I don't know too much about this stuff but I did choose to assume when buying this that higher mbps and GHz should = better connectivity. Have other people experienced this problem this early on? I want to know if there's a defect with the card or if I'm doing something wrong or if it's more that it's just a piece of junk.

1 out of 5 eggsconnection keep drops

This review is from: TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps / 5 GHz 867 Mbps,One-Button Setup, Windows XP / 7 / 8, Plug & Play in Windows 10 (32 bit & 64 bit)

Pros: fast with 5G speed, i could go to 100mbs with 5G.

Cons: started to acting up after few month, constantly drops signal, i need to unplugged to get my connection back.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

We appreciate you checking out our Adapter.

We are sorry to see that the device started acting up on your after a few months.

It is hard to determine what may have caused this issue with your connection.

If you have any Anti-virus Software I would suggest trying to disable this for a bit and see if you connection stays intact. If you find that when you turn the Anti-virus back on your connection goes down, then it may be safe to assume that this could be the cause.

I would also suggest trying to reinstall the driver for this device. This may help with any bugs or conflict that could be causing you to drop connection.

You may also find that some settings in the Wireless may need to be changed if you have other devices that are experiencing the same issue.

Please feel free to call our Technical support team for further assistance. We are here 24/7 and would love to help you resolve this issue.

Best Regards!
