1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy if running Windows 10 and playing On-line games

This review is from: TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps / 5 GHz 867 Mbps,One-Button Setup, Windows XP / 7 / 8, Plug & Play in Windows 10 (32 bit & 64 bit)

Pros: Price

Cons: - intermittent disconnects (nasty during games)

Other Thoughts: Have been buying TPLink products exclusively for about 4 years. Upgraded to AC1750 router and it was great with an old tl-wn722n v1 adaptor under Win7. Upgraded to Windows 10 and the tl-wn722n was not compatible so I bought the T4U (stated as win10 compatible. BIG MISTAKE not reading NewEgg reviews first. (Bought from competitor A...n and the reviews were great). Sorry NewEgg it won't happen again :( This was especially bad when using my Steam-Link. Tried putting both on same frequency, different frequencies and tweaking all the network adaptor parameters. Nothing worked.

3 out of 5 eggsFinally Fixed it!

This review is from: TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps / 5 GHz 867 Mbps,One-Button Setup, Windows XP / 7 / 8, Plug & Play in Windows 10 (32 bit & 64 bit)

Pros: Works on 5 GHz if the end-user manually sets a low Channel on the router.

Cons: Doesn't appear to be compatible with higher 5 Ghz channels.

Other Thoughts: I purchased two of these and both of them had the same issue. They were disconnecting at random times and having difficulties connecting. I could go for hours without issues and then at random it would start to fail. I read online that other users were have the same issue, and someone mentioned to try changing to the lowest possible channel for 5 GHz, after doing this all of my problems went away. If you're having connection issues try changing your 5 GHz channel to 36.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Vladimir,

Thank you for your detailed feedback regarding our product.

We will certainly bring these performance results to the attention of our product team for further research.

As a wireless client connects to an available network at a higher frequency channel, more power is required by both the transmitter (router) and the receiving client (PC) in order to sustain that connection. Based upon your results, this may be attributed to the distance from the adapter and the main router or possibly the Archer T4U may require too much power to be drawn via the integrated USB ports on the PC over time.

Our support team would greatly appreciate the opportunity to follow up with you to discuss further details regarding this concern.

At your earliest convenience, please contact us via the email provided below so we may have an available agent reach out directly.

We thank you again for your feedback and certainly hope this experience will not discourage you from checking out more of our great networking products in the future.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking Perfectly for One Year Now

This review is from: TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps / 5 GHz 867 Mbps,One-Button Setup, Windows XP / 7 / 8, Plug & Play in Windows 10 (32 bit & 64 bit)

Pros: Internet speed test Comcast / Xfinity max. 75Mbps/5Mbps speed tier:
(Comcast gives you a "blast" on download speed for the first few seconds.)

Using nearest ISP server - ping 14ms - Down 84.24Mbps Up 6.03Mbps

Has been trouble-free for about a year of regular use.

5.0GHz band streams HD video very smooth and clear from Netflix, Xfinity, Youtube, etc. Also streams recorded TV shows from our HTPC via our home network. (From living room HTPC via Netgear AV500 powerline adapters to TP-Link Archer C9 AC-1900 router in home office then via 5.0GHz wi-fi to bedroom.)

2.4GHz is useful when we take the laptop out in the yard away from the house. It works well enough over this distance for internet use.

Cons: Sticks out a ways from side of laptop so we have to be careful to remove it when carrying the laptop anywhere.

Wide enough and thick enough that it blocks the adjacent port above, below or beside it.

Kinda pricey .... but it DOES deliver the goods.

Other Thoughts: We get good results with powerline networking in our house, but there's some electrical interference in one area which diminishes the speed/performance of the powerline connection there. In this situation the TP-Link AC1200 wireless adapter produces very superior results - fast and stable.

One reviewer mentioned poor performance in a house with the router in the basement and he used the wireless adapter two floors above. This is never a good idea as wi-fi signals always seem to travel better horizontally rather than vertically. If possible, choose some central location in your home for the router and DON'T put it in a drawer or closet!

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't last - terrible service

This review is from: TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps / 5 GHz 867 Mbps,One-Button Setup, Windows XP / 7 / 8, Plug & Play in Windows 10 (32 bit & 64 bit)

Pros: It's pretty fast when it works

Cons: I got this adapter less than 6 month ago when moving into a new house. We had been using power line adapters that weren't working as fast with the electrical wiring of an older home. Worked perfectly fine until my computer started constantly loosing the device. When first booting it I'd get a message from the utility software that the device was not connect to the computer. I would need to disconnect and reconnect the adapter up to 10 times before my computer wouldn't loose the device. Once it did I'd be fine until the next time I turned off the computer.

That being said the worst part was customer service. I tried a couple of test before calling and installed drivers from scratch manually. I called in to get an RMA. I knew I had to play along and followed the agents instructions but she tried everything to get rid of me. every step she would try get me to hang up and call back. I'm pretty computer savvy so could whatever she was asking me quickly and didn't let her go. Finally I asked for a replacement. She said she was going to escalate to an engineer who would get back to me. I'll wait 2 days but I'm not holding my breath.

Other Thoughts: I've had tp link products in the past. They very inexpensive and perform well while they work but break very quickly. I don't think I'll ever buy one of their products again.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsDied after 3 months of use

This review is from: TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps / 5 GHz 867 Mbps,One-Button Setup, Windows XP / 7 / 8, Plug & Play in Windows 10 (32 bit & 64 bit)

Pros: Easy installation. Software is OK I guess. Stable connection after some time.

Cons: Purchased 7/9 began use 7/23, died yesterday, 10/22. Was working fine in the morning. Came home from classes, woke the PC up, and suddenly it doesn't want to connect. Restart PC - light on the stick no longer shows up. No blinking, nothing, as if it isn't connected. I attempted several different ports, with and without its cradle. No use. This thing is dead. Ridiculous.
Was also hellishly slow at first, but seemed to get better. Seemed to work better in my dorm than at home. Beware, it did give me some signs before it died, which I thought was the fault of my university's wifi. It began to load pages extremely slowly, randomly, and youtube videos would stop suddenly and report an error.

Other Thoughts: Still can't find a USB wifi adapter that was actually as stable as this one. Would love suggestions.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked well for a week

This review is from: TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps / 5 GHz 867 Mbps,One-Button Setup, Windows XP / 7 / 8, Plug & Play in Windows 10 (32 bit & 64 bit)

Pros: When it works,it got a link speed of 250mbs on my 2.4ghz channel. It has a cool flashing green light when it is connected.

Cons: Connection became very unstable within 2 weeks.I now have to reset it every 20 minutes for it to even load a page.I also had really bad driver issues because I do not have a cd-rom on my pc.I can barely load a simple page like google after 5+ minutes of usage.I have also contacted TP-Link but I still have not got a response, I was also on hold for about 20 minutes and got hung up on.

Other Thoughts: At first I thought my firewall was blocking it ,but that seems to be not the case.My 10 year old laptop with built-in wifi has a more stable connection then this adapter at the moment.

2 out of 5 eggsHaving a tough time

This review is from: TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps / 5 GHz 867 Mbps,One-Button Setup, Windows XP / 7 / 8, Plug & Play in Windows 10 (32 bit & 64 bit)

Pros: Worked fantastically while it lasted. Got very low latency in-game and fast page loads which is all good.

Cons: About a two months ago the wifi adapter started doing some bad stuff. The connection would sometimes blink in and out and then slow down to a crawl. And then on some occations make my computer freeze and I have to hard reset. Note, I made sure to check that there were other things that were causing this to happen and I narrowed it down to this adapter. I'm pretty sure I got a faulty one for sure, RMAing or replacing soon.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure that most people would not have this experience with this adapter, the reason this is not a one-star review. But in my case I had a bad time with the T4U adapter.
