Background Story

The design concept of our prototype began from a router/decorative for the living room, or even an art piece for public spaces. Therefore we decided to create a stereoscopic tower shaped router

Speed, coverage and stability are the basics for a router, however to make one attractive is the difficult part. While most routers follow a dull uniformed mold, users tend to hide them in shame, behind shelves or under the table. Hence, we've made ASRock G10 into a futuristic and vogue art piece that deserves to be put under the spotlight. Aside from the superficial design, our engineers introduced the Internet of Things technology to make this router even more practical. By adding infrared receivers and transmitters, you can remotely control your home appliances with your mobile devices. Furthermore, a travel router, Ethernet adapter plus HDMI dongle hybrid called H2R comes with the G10 router, just like icing on the cake! Now, you are entitled to high speed connections and wireless sharing with ASRock G10.

2 out of 5 eggsNot recomended

Pros: Fast router and easy to set up.

Cons: Dead after 2 months! having a hard time getting ASRock to replace the router.

Other Thoughts: Wish I would have spent the little extra money and purchased the router I really wanted. This was the first ASRock product I have ever purchased and I think it was a mistake.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsDon't even bother.

Pros: Got it pretty cheap on a shell-shocker sale. Was like $150

Cons: I've owned this router for around 2 months. For the first month I owned it, it worked fine. Excellent even. No major resounding features to speak of, nothing groundbreaking or new, other than it's gamer-focused design which is pretty cool. I've owned this thing for less than 90 days now, and it is currently sitting on my floor, completely useless. I was forced to switch back to a cheap-o $40 ASUS router I still had sitting around (That I replaced for this AsRock router). Hey, the ASUS one randomly would freeze up and need to be reset once or twice a day, but at least it worked at all! For the last two weeks or so I have been having trouble with this router occasionally just... Not connecting to any of the devices wired to it, and not allowing any wireless devices to connect to it, except randomly allowing my PC (connected via ethernet) to connect to it wirelessly.
As of today the problem has become constant. No devices wired to the router will even recognize that they are connected to one, meaning I can't even get into the router settings to try and factory reset the router, because my PC doesn't even think it's plugged into a router.
I attempted to physically factory reset the router and was successful. However, this did not fix the issue whatsoever, I still could not get any device to actually connect to the router wired or wireless. (Other than my PC, but only wirelessly)
I have checked and checked and checked all my cables again and again and have been racking my brain for weeks now over what in the world is causing this bizzare issue, until I finally snapped today and just re-plugged up my old bargain-bin ASUS router and suddenly everything worked perfectly.
Leaving this router as the soul culprit of these frustrations. I can't believe I spent well over $100 on this garbage when the cheap-o $40 router laying in my drawer was already better.

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this product to my worst enemy.

2 out of 5 eggsZappy interface but low range and drops connection

Pros: Great looking and many features

Cons: Wireless connections keeps dropping on mobile phone which has latest AC wireless. ASRock has no technical support on their home site except for motherboards. When you go to support it will not work for the G10.eps asking for bios, CPU and other extraneous information, thus will NOT SUBMIT. Came to NewEgg site to try to get help, because I went through several hours or perhaps days of work to install device PW's and Printers to this router. WirelessPrint also does not always work on some devices. In general it has not worked as good as my much less expensive Netgear dual channel router at 1/3 the price. Will be returning unless I hear from them shortly.

3 out of 5 eggsRouter is good, Miracast adapter is not

Pros: Router seems to work pretty well. Easy setup. So far no major problems

Cons: - The Miracast adapter does not work correctly with my Miracast capable Lumia 950.

Other Thoughts: If I could give half egg ratings, I would probably give this a 3.5, but it's not worth a 4 in its current state as far as I'm concerned. I'm knocking a full egg off the rating simply because the Miracast adapter weighed heavily into my decision to buy this router. If I knew it wasn't going to work, I would not have purchased it and would have gone with a competitor's device.
My phone cannot connect through Miracast to the dongle that supposedly offers Miracast functionality. There is a second way to connect to the device though through basic WiFi. I can connect to it that way, but the functionality is really disappointing. Terrible lag when loading pictures. It would actually be embarrassing using the device with friends or family around because they would just be staring at you or a blank screen most of the time rather than viewing whatever you intended to show. Moral of the story, do not take the Miracast dongle into consideration AT ALL when purchasing this device. Make your decision entirely off of the router and what it offers.

As for the router, it mostly works as expected. The only frustration I've had is trying to view, reset, or delete existing wireless connections. There is a way to view the connections, but it is in some specialized sub menu and not the normal advanced settings. The sub menu seems to have fewer options available than what you would expect from a high end router or even a basic router in the normal/advanced menu options. To cancel a single wireless connection, I had to turn off the entire wireless offering from the router. Manually assigning an IP address does not seem to cause the router to renegotiate an address with the device... and once again, no way to revoke or reset a single device's address. Obviously, you can get where you need to with manual assignment on both devices, but I was surprised that there was no way to control individual connections.
I've also been disappointed with the signal strength. One of the earlier reviewers mentioned impressive signal strength. Not the case for me. I've got my XBox One setup on the 5GHz network. My router is sitting on top of my desk hutch in the office. The XB1 is down the hallway in another room, inside a cabinet. So, there are a few walls in between and the wood cabinet it is in. But, at a distance of about 35 feet on the same floor, I'm disappointed with a 2 bar signal out of 4.

4 out of 5 eggs I really wanted to love this

Pros: -Small footprint
-Internal antenna
-Dual-band goodness + 802.11ac tech
-4-Port Gigabit ports (a must to fully utilize the >100Mbps wireless speeds)
-USB 3.0 NAS x 2
-Miracast device, whose coolest feature is its custom port, er, I mean cradle on the top of the mothership, er, I mean router

Cons: -Reboot required after changing almost any feature – This is so 2005, ASRock
Minor Con: I’m not a fan of the vertical ports because they can make the router a bit tippy when cables are plugged into them, especially when the router is so lightweight.

Other Thoughts: My review is from the angle of a power user in a 2-level home with a robust Gigabit network (20+ active wired nodes, mostly in the basement) and many wireless devices upstairs, covered partially by a centrally-located D-Link DIR-868L and by a DAP-1650 Extender on the weak end of the house. I have upgraded through several D-Link routers, which have served me well for 7-8 years (and the oldest one is still running on my network as a switch) and have been using the 868L for several years now. The 868L is the one to beat as far as I am concerned. I am no stranger to ASRock, which is a “secondary” ASUS brand for those of you who didn’t already know this. I have been using ASRock motherboards for many years and there were times where I had better luck & performance from ASRock boards than from ASUS-branded boards, although I have fully come back into the ASUS fold after a perfect string of luck with their most-excellent M5A78L motherboards. Being a fan, in general, of ASUS products is what prompted this review’s title. I really thought this one was going to beat the speeds on the 868L, which are rated AC1750. Apparently, this rating is the equivalent to the almost non-existent MPG ratings shown under a car’s specs, which are completely subject to unrealistic conditions. I will get to that, but first want to cover my disappointment with the router’s browser interface. I’m not complaining so much about the actual look of the interface, but want to be clear that if you are mainly looking for a router to do basic routing functions and optimize your network traffic, this one is great for that. However, one of the reasons I am such a big D-Link fanboy is because of their extensive user-access control features. With time, perhaps ASRock will add some of these features with future firmware updates, but it seems doubtful. I think they know their audience and I don’t think it’s me. Beyond all of the local wireless access going on, I also serve out 2 websites from my main server and have multiple Virtual Server forwarding rules for external RDP access. So, I need quite a bit from the main router beyond the local access control.

Now to the meat of this review (i.e. the thing that mattered most to me): The wireless speeds. I used 2 Wireless AC adapters comparing this device (hereafter called the G10) with the speeds of the 868L and the DAP-1650. Both adapters happen to be Intel Wireless AC 7260 adapters (internal Mini-PCI Express in my laptop and the smaller NGFF in my Yoga 2 Pro), which 18 months after I bought them, are still the ones to beat. Here’s where the disappointment begins…With the G10, I was getting actual throughput of 150Mbps Up/150Mbps Down (hereafter referred as 150/150) at about 30 feet away in my prime spot, using LAN Speed Test/Server across the Gigabit network. Through the DAP-1650, I was consistently getting 150/300 and through the 868L, I was getting 200/400. So the AC2600 router couldn’t even beat the AC1200-rated extender and will lose an egg for this. I give it 4 eggs for having a decent feature set, the Miracast functionality and its general coolness.

5 out of 5 eggsA strong Product

Pros: Strong signal. The moment I installed the router I pulled up a browser and it auto connected to the routers domain allowing me to quickly set up changing login and password information as well as set up security settings. Ran a speed test and verified that the router is providing the top speeds from my ISP.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I live in an apartment which limits wireless due to the construction of our walls. The master bedroom which is thirty feet away could barely get one bar of signal strength with the old router. This router delivered a full five bars signal strength. Looking forward to it's performance over the next few months.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing high end router

Pros: Very strong signal; I got good network speeds on the 5 GHz band everywhere in my house and did not need range extenders as I typically do to keep the signal strong enough for my families' smartphones.

Ideal for families with multiple devices in the wireless due to the MIMO / beamforming tech. You will get better performance across multiple devices than you would with older tech.

Super simple to setup and use; the user interface is well done.

The wireless dongle has some interesting functionality if you want to use it as a miracast dongle... it is cool to stream video from a NAS attached to this router to a TV elsewhere in the house. Oh and by the way the built in NAS functionality is great - had no problems hooking up my two 3TB USB 3.0 drives as a NAS.

Sleek aesthetic that is not as garish as many "gaming" devices - it fits right at home in the living room.

So in short, it performs great, has TONS of bandwidth, and is very easy to use.

Cons: The wireless dongle is, in my opinion, pretty useless as a travel router. You can get better travel routers for twenty bucks.

I'm not a fan of the IR functionality... it requires a smartphone and I found it to be a bit of a pain.

Other Thoughts: This router is amazing. If it's within your budget and you are a wireless gamer OR you just have 3+ devices on your wireless at any given time, I strongly recommend this router.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and rangy, feature-rich, future-proof, but average in some ways

Pros: -Fast, 2.4GHz and 5GHz range are similar
-Wave 2/Mu-MIMO functionality is highly desirable in environments with multiple users and multiple devices steaming content
-IR learning functionality is impressive and allows you to remotely operate and integrate home devices receiving IR signals
-Simple, intuitive UI is deceivingly power user-friendly
-NAS/cloud functionality works perfectly, good speeds
-A whopping 1.73Gbps on the 5GHz band
-Cutting edge hardware, including a dual-core 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor and 512MB RAM
-8 antenna configuration
-Frequent updates from ASRock thus far
-H2R dongle that slips neatly into a slot in the router can replace a Chromecast, also doubles as a travel router (haven't tested the latter feature) - comes with a female to male HDMI extension cable for tight fits
-IPv6

Cons: -You'll need a smart phone to use the IR feature
-Gamer aesthetic may not appeal to everyone
-HDMI hybrid dongle requires USB power, a consideration for older TV's
-ASrock support may taper off for niche product
-Interface splash screen is very basic
-Wireless speeds are average for the price range, extra features and design are the selling point

Other Thoughts: If you're a wireless gamer (no longer an oxymoron) and you're currently using your trusty $50 N600 router, buy this. After testing the Buffalo N600 DD-WRT router and a TP-Link N300 router from less than 20 feet away, this router provided a massive performance improvement in terms of fidelity and my ping decreased by 4ms. Silky smooth in everything from CS:Go to Battlefield 4. What previously seemed like server lag or gameplay issues using the previous two routers disappeared using this. The difference in games between a low-mid-range router and this one is clear. Even my TRENDnet AC1200 router doesn't provide the same kind of fluidity. And the N600 built into my Comcast modem doesn't even compare. Not much of a difference compared to my DIR-868L though.

File transfers over the local network with the 5GHz 80MHz band were 78.2Mbps on average. The 2.4GHz 40Mhz band provided 28.5Mbps for file transfers. Over LAN, 108Mbps. 2.4GHz throughput was measured at 167.3Mbps over the 40MHz band, while the 5GHz band delivered a plentiful 411Mbps over the 80Mhz band from about 20 feet away. I also tested a USB 3.0 500GB Seagate Backup Plus with this and got around 40MB/s read and 28MB/s write.

This router is tucked into the corner of a small study room on the top floor of my 3-story home. The signal was still very strong all the way to the cement-lined basement.

Another plus: my iPhone 6 has a very finicky wireless adapter and it picked both bands on this up perfectly with no drops.

The H2R dongle is actually very cool, although I found the EZcast interface on Android slightly unintuitive. Still, I was able to stream online content from anywhere on the web in a fairly streamlined way, much like the Chromecast. Have not tried it with other devices, but I could easily see myself using the H2R all the time with my Android device and the living room TV.

Overall, I highly recommend this router and the H2R attachment is a definite plus. It worked very well for gaming and provides excellent range and speed, although the speeds were similar to other routers in the price range. Still, with the rich feature set this provides, this is replacing my DIR-868L and I plan to use it for years to come. Thank you Newegg and ASRock.

5 out of 5 eggsWow, this is fast

Pros: This G10 is the replacement for our Netgear router at home, this one is amazing fast WiFi compare the old router. I was getting the hi-def movies from my NAS via WiFi, it take half of time only.

Cons: Setup is little overwhelm for me.
