5 out of 5 eggs9dBi over 2 or 3 dBi helps

Pros: So I replaced my Engenius N300 Router's pair of 2-3dBi antennas with a pair of these 9dBi antennas (on sale). We have a big split between 2 buildings (about 100ft through trees and a couple of stories different in relative height on a hillside) and were not getting solid enough signal for devices that didn't have a big external antenna. The higher efficiency antennas did the trick, what was pulling -90 dBm or more is now pulling in -80 to -70 which is useable if not great.

Cons: So they couldn't quite get everything into the green but is that the fault of the antennas? I think not. They will improve your range, but they won't make the unattainable possible.

Other Thoughts: Hard to go wrong for the price. I'll see if they hold but I don't expect too many problems - antennas are not a high "failure rate" item as long as they aren't broken or mistreated.

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work for me

Pros: It was comical!

Cons: In my situation this did not work. I have a D-Link DIR-655. I removed the factory antenna's and installed the EA-IO9D
9dBi antenna's - I looked like a kid in a "Christmas Story" scene waiting for a change..... it seemed to drop a bit then back to it's original state. So It did not increase my signal.

Other Thoughts: I may need to use a signal booster instead. Not sure if there is an issue with the antenna's or signal strength. At this point I am assuming a combination of "You get what you pay for" and the need to increase signal.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing.

Though DIR-655 is a router with three antennas, it is a 2T (Transmitter) 2R (Receiver) router. We do not know their hardware design. It may dedicate one to transmit, another one to receive, the third one to transmit and Receive. The router may not work on just one antenna.

Please contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our tech support team will assist you with the issue.
We look forward to the opportunity to serve you.

Best regards,
Edimax Tech Support Team
