1 out of 5 eggsInstalled 2: One at POE; One at PC = Zero Improvement

Pros: Looks impressive.

Cons: To make certain I would see the greatest signal improvement, I installed one on the router (POE) and one on the PC. As a result, there was no measureable gain in reception.

Other Thoughts: If you're having difficulty with reception, don't waste time on simply adding more antennas. You need more power to "push" the signal or you need to add a repeater (bridge) that is powered to increase the signal strength.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I picked this up at a steal for $9.99. It works amazing. Using the stock antenna on my wireless card I get between a 1 and 2 signal strength. With this attached to my wireless card it's a 4 out of 5 signal. I do a lot of online gaming and never lose my connection anymore.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Wish I could pick up a few more at $9.99.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Once you get it placed right, it works good. It took some time to get the right placement, but it is much better than the 2 X dbi antennas that came with my PCI-E wireless n card, located in the back of my PC. I had to move the router for a better angle, raised up the router a little bit and placed this antenna at the routers level. It is basically 20ft away from the router behind 2 steel fire rated doors and a hallway. The speed now fluctuates from 120, 150, 180, 270Mbps to 300Mbps. Most of the time it stays at 270-300Mbps. My wireless connection was disappearing from time to time, but it was not the antenna and was fixed by changing the router's channel. Overall the build quality is good, but one of the sma connectors did pull off when I pulled my PC out, but I was able to tighten it better.

Cons: It takes a little adjusting and seems to need a good line of sight.
The antennas could be a little smaller in size even though they are 7dbi. The cable length is too short to be able to place it perfectly.

Other Thoughts: With the rebate, it was the best deal for a dual 7dbi antenna from a known company. There are not many dual external sma antennas available.

4 out of 5 eggsMight be an improvement, maybe not

Pros: Packaging and build quality, Zonet really did a nice job in these respects. Double boxed and shrink wrapped from the factory. The base for the antennas is metal, very sturdy and has a nice heft to it - so tipping over shouldn't be a problem. It has notched holes on the bottom for vertical or wall mounting and rubber feet to keep from scratching surfaces. Cabling is fairly thick and seems to be high quality. I’m currently using these (without the base) attached directly to a Rosewill RNX-GX4 and they improved my signal...sort of.

Cons: Antenna elements are stiff plastic and not flexible rubber, this may or may not be a con for some but they do have the tilt elbow at the bottom. Pricing is fair ($30+ free shipping) at the time of my review, I suppose you could do worse, especially if you paid more for an equivalent item. Due to the decent build quality and packaging I doubt this item will ever be below $25.

Other Thoughts: I know a good bit about antenna theory, but I’m also realistic so I didn’t expect “linear amplifier” improvement over the stock 2db antennas. I’m using DD-WRT firmware on my RNX-GX4 so I can at least visually see a 5 to 10 percent improvement in the wireless statistics page. This falls in line with a theoretical gain of 5db, so Zonet’s specifications are probably correct. You may or may not see any difference depending on your application. Higher gain vertical antennas have a lower take-off angle in the horizontal plane. If you want to blast your wireless signal in all directions farther across a single floor, a higher gain vertical antenna may help. However, if you’re installing them on a device located on a floor or several floors above or below the intended receiving/transmitting devices, you could see a potential DECREASE in performance over lower gain vertical antennas. This isn’t specific to the Zonet ZWA1207, it includes all high gain vertical antennas no matter who makes them.
