PowerDsine PoE Extender is a cost effective way to extend the Ethernet network range beyond 100m, delivering both data and power to network devices such as WLAN Access Points and Network Cameras up to a distance of 200m while complying with IEEE PoE and Data standards.
The PoE Extender supports 10/100/1000Mbps data rates and delivers 802.3at power levels, up to 25.5W. The PoE Extender does not require local power and is powered via the PoE input.
This review is from: PowerDsine PD-PoE-Extender Power Over Ethernet Extender
Pros: Does exactly what it says it will: allows extending of copper Ethernet segments for a much lower cost than it would to run fiber. POE in and POE out up to 25 watts with high power input.
Cons: It does not pass the Ethernet link state down the line; it will always show link up at the near (input) side.
Other Thoughts: It's basically a two port gigabit switch that takes POE in and provides POE out and does not require local power. The extender itself takes a very small amount of power from the total POE budget, so make sure you check the datasheet (available at microsemi.com/powerdsine) if you need to drive a POE device at an extended distance so you know how many watts will be available on the extender's output vs. what the end POE device needs.
