Pros: Does exactly what it says it will: allows extending of copper Ethernet segments for a much lower cost than it would to run fiber. POE in and POE out up to 25 watts with high power input.
Cons: It does not pass the Ethernet link state down the line; it will always show link up at the near (input) side.
Other Thoughts: It's basically a two port gigabit switch that takes POE in and provides POE out and does not require local power. The extender itself takes a very small amount of power from the total POE budget, so make sure you check the datasheet (available at microsemi.com/powerdsine) if you need to drive a POE device at an extended distance so you know how many watts will be available on the extender's output vs. what the end POE device needs.
I'm using these to place Cisco WS-C2960PD-8TT-L switches (an 8 port switch that is POE powered) up to 200 meters away without having to spend the money on fiber or install power at the far end.
