5 out of 5 eggsWifi Extender

Pros: Extended my router to an outbuilding about 500ft away over a road. There was realistically no other way to do this and the TP-Link worked flawlessly. Easy to set up, good (30db) signal strength,

Cons: No cons.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Inexpensive. Great interface. Easy to configure. Awesome range.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I have three of these on my hotel property as access points to provide wifi to guests. They handle the load really well. The hotel buildings are spread over 5 acres and there are no dead spots anywhere. I purchased these to replace 3 hawking howabn1 units, these are much much better for way way less money. The hawking units kept getting blasted by lightning.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat range! Inexpensive.

Pros: Great range. Probably 500 feet, when mounted on the low spot of my roof, which is adjacent (6 feet) to my neighbour's house/wall. As other have said, it seems to be very directional. I can't reach the St*rb*cks hotspot about 1500' away...yet.

Cons: Interface is quirky, as others have indicated.

5 out of 5 eggsNewEgg has it wrong

Pros: This item works perfectly if you realize it is only a Wireless G, not an N

Cons: NewEgg has it listed incorrectly on their website, claiming it is a wireless N. See his link to verify from TP-Link that it is only a Wireless B/G.

Other Thoughts: Do your homework before ordering and saying it isn't compatible.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Product

Pros: Installaiton was a breeze. I am sharing my internet connection with my business about 400 yards down the hill. We are getting a 51Db connection. I just had to setup DNS (from my ISP) on the client computer after connecting it to this nifty tplink device and boom we were surfing. Connection is solid and bandwith speed tests are as good at the remote location as they are at my house. I had fun setting this up and am impressed at how well this works. It rained a few times since I setup the device and one storm was a severe t-storm and no problem so the device is well protected from the weather. Device does everything as advertised. You just need basic knowledge of DNS.

Cons: Had to drill holes in the mounting bracket on the device to mount it to two buildings. The mounting design on the back is annoying but it works. Thats my only complaint. I like the device and don't regret the purchase at all.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: EXACTLY as advertised. I've worked with a variety of WiFi equipment over the years, and frankly the coverage distance and area of this thing are crazy good, especially for the price. If you're looking for something to push through a strong WiFi signal across a good distance outdoors, this is what you want. Stop looking, you found it. I'm using it to get Internet access to several nearby neighbors who don't have access, and it hasn't hiccuped in the two months I've had it installed. One neighbor I'm hitting is approximately 200 yards away, but more impressively, I'm hitting their desktop that's IN THEIR BASEMENT! In other words either through multi-path propagation (more likely) or just sheer signal strength, this thing is pushing 2 bars of signal UNDERGROUND 200 YARDS AWAY!

As others noted, set up was a breeze, management is very simple, etc. If you're familiar with setting up a WiFi AP, this won't give you any trouble at all. If you're a novice, it's easy.

Cons: For the price, there really isn't a single thing I would complain about. You will NOT be able to match this performance anywhere near this price point. Buy this thing, I bought two of them!

Other Thoughts: I wasn't familiar with the TP-Link namebrand before purchasing the first of these units. I now own three of their APs, and all have been installed without a single problem. I'm sure that there are likely some things I've overlooked, and I don't particularly stress their products, and nor have I really tested them thoroughly beyond simple installation and use, but honestly, does any of that really matter beyond "it just works" for a sub-$99 item?

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Customer Service

Pros: The customer service is awesome, called the 1-800 number and was surprised to hear an actual person answering the phone. I had an issue with the security feature and they walked me right thru it. I will definitely by TP-Link again. I was let down by Linksys, and D-Links customer service before.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsGreat long distance AP

Pros: First off, POE is an amazing thing. Lots of settings including AP mode, AP client mode, repeater mode, or bridge mode. Such a breeze setting it up. Internal admin page has easy to use layout. You can even adjust the output range for smaller areas.

Cons: Not very flexible mounting options, comes with zip ties for the pole mounts. I'd have liked to see better hardware come standard for mounting it, something to the akin of muffler clamps maybe? Also, add some rubber feet to those mounts so they don't slide down the pole.

Other Thoughts: Anyone that has issues connecting any device other than win 7: Go to the internal setup page, change your wireless security settings to WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK, auto everything. I have 1 Mac, 4 android devices (2 cells and 2 tablets), my Wii, and 2 win 7 devices connected and no problems at all.
Currently I'm pushing a signal well past 1,000' at 3 bars through trees, across a road and up a hill. It's very directional, so line it up correctly. Will buy another soon!

1 out of 5 eggsIncompatable and Unreliable

Pros: Its small, it has a decent feature set.

Cons: I have this in my test environment, and it has a lot of issues. First off I can not connect with anything except Windows 7 computers. (Windows XP, Mac, iPhone, Android Phones, etc... will see it but won't connect; even with WEP/WPA/WPA2 disabled.) I have worked with TP-Link's tech support; a nice Asian lady answered the phone, but she obviously did not have much technical knowledge; but I did what she said just in case I missed something. She was not able to fix my issue and she claimed they don't have a second level support.

The Windows 7 computers that do connect only work for a short time. They stay connected; however the AP quits passing data after an hour or so; and it needs to be power cycled. I have tried all 11 channels with no success.

It claims to be POE, however I dont think it complies to 802.3af (The POE standard) as it will power up using its power injector; however none of my POE switches will power it.

Other Thoughts: It claims to be an outdoor unit; but I question this. They are relying on gravity to keep water out. None of the seams in the plastic or the access door where you hook up the cables are sealed with any type of gasket; only slightly overlapping plastic (about 1mm overlap).

I'm going to try a few last things; but I see this unit being returned in the near future. Even if I am able to get it working my 1 egg rating stands as I have had to mess with this unit for 5+ hours so far and their tech support was unable to provide any real assistance. I am using a lot of silicone sealant on these seams before I will even consider putting outdoors.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,
This is Howard from TP-LINK Support Force.

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by the product.
For the problem why other devices can't connect except Windows7, could you please try to reset and configure the TL-WA5210G via individual page, instead of the Quick Setup? I think it would solve the problem.Actually this is a small bug of the firmware. But another configuration way will solve it. And we'll release a new firmware to solve this bug in the near future.

For the PoE issue, it's Passive PoE and we've included the PoE injector in the package. You may use it to power the device, and I'm sure you already did. Passive PoE is different from 802.3af PoE, but we've tested and proved that it supports up to 60 meters.

If you wish, I would help you to solve other problems so that you won't waste your investment.
You may send an email to support.usa@tp-link.com and specify to forward to Howard.He.
Thank you!

Best Regards!

5 out of 5 eggsTP-Link TL-WA5210G Weather Proof Access Point

Pros: Can place the unit up to 60m from the source (limited by POE not network communication).
Weather proof
Simple setup

Cons: Did not notice the 60m limit on POE in the quick setup guide

Other Thoughts: Used this at a customer installation to get wireless to a guest house 800' from the house. Was able to place the TP Link at the full 60m limit and got 3 of 4 bars connection on a laptop inside the guest house - not by a window. Great solution!
