Rosewill RNX-AD7 7dBi High Gain Dual Band Network Directional Antenna

Your Best Choice of Dual Band Antenna

Complaints about the poor signal of your Wi-Fi from a 802.11AC router? Why not try the Real High Gain Dual Band Network Antenna Stand of Rosewill. According to the research, the Wi-Fi range of 802.11AC is only half of 802.11n. It means when you upgrade your wireless router to 802.11AC, the distance of your indoor Wi-Fi coverage is no longer the same as you were used to before.

To help customers use the Wi-Fi conveniently, Rosewill launches a series of Real Dual Band Network Antenna products. Unlike the low cost and counterfeit dual band antennas, we test our network antennas rigorously to create ubiquitous indoor Wi-Fi environments for users. Still feeling annoyed with your Wi-Fi range? Give the network antennas from Rosewill a try.

Applied Routers Included, but not Limited to:

  • NETGEAR:R7000,
  • D-Link:DIR-655 DIR-665
  • TP-LINK:TL-WDR4300, TL-WDR3600, TL-WDR3500, TL-WR1043ND, TL-WR2543ND, TL-WDR4300

4 out of 5 eggsGood Gain, Sub-Par Build Quality

Pros: - Good gain, can't do much better than these if you need to support both 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands unless you go for directional antennas.
- Looks pretty, not exorbitantly-sized.

Cons: - The build quality of this antenna is atrocious for this price point. The threads are plastic, the hinge is small and flimsy, and there are various fit-and-finish problems. This is polar-opposite to Rosewill's other antennas, especially in regards to the plastic threads. ALL of their other antennas have metal threads with beefier hinges.
- 2.4GHz gain isn't superb, but this is just common to dual-band antennas in general, not this one specifically.

Other Thoughts: I paired this with an RNX-AD5 to have something with a little more gain to go with it at the expense of a more directional beam.
I have two external antenna connections on my laptop (added by me) which are used with a Killer-N 1202 WLAN card, and it works absolutely phenomenal. Looks pretty 'killer' too.

Because I disconnect the antennas to transport the laptop in my bag, the build quality of the antenna is very important to me. If you're going to be sticking this on something stationary and just setting it and forgetting it then build quality isn't really a big deal for you, plastic threads and a flimsy hinge will get the job done for you.

If you are looking to upgrade a router's antennas, these are probably your best non-directional choice if you need 5GHz support. Be warned that, unless you're replacing little dinky rubber-ducky antennas, you may not notice enough of a difference to justify the cost of these antennas.

If your router or WiFi chip is only 2.4GHz, you should look at antennas that offer high gain on 2.4GHz only, like Rosewill's RNX-A9-EX or RNX-A5LX-EX.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work

Pros: ...

Cons: Didn't work for me at all. Significantly reduced my signal and speed as determined by multiple ping tests, speed tests, and Wifi Scanner S/N results.

Other Thoughts: Maybe this could be a specific pronlem to WRT610n V1 since I had to manually connect this external antenna to a router that normally has no external antenna's.
If it worked, it would've been great for the money.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The Rosewill RNX-AD7 antenna does pull in a stronger signal. My comp's are all located over 122m (400' +) from the main building where the modem/wifi router lives. I still get a full signal & this is coming through a wall of trees (forest / jungle). all modern comp's have the built in wifi but some work better than others. The wifi adapter & the antenna has a better signal than just running your stock wifi unit. I get a better signal using a Rosewill wifi adapter & antenna than the comp's located just 10' away from the modem/router (unless they are using an adapter. This unit will fit all newer modem/routers. It is well worth the few $ this cost.

Cons: Nada

Other Thoughts: great product for the price & really does bring in a stronger signal

5 out of 5 eggsThis is 5GHz band antenna

Pros: Good gain in 5GHz band when comparing to OEM 3dBi

Cons: average performance @2.4GHz
If you dig around AD7 is 5dBi @2.4 and 7dBi @5GHz. If you need to boost 2.4 band look elsewhere.

Other Thoughts: @Navnit P; a couple points:
1) looks like you are not familiar with WiFi Quality of Service. Here is how it calculated (sample with 80dB signal / 98dB noise) :
Signal - Noise = SNR
-82 - -98 = 16
Signal / Noise * SNR = Signal Quality
-82 / -98 * 16 = 13.4%
if you improve signal +2dB to 80, signal quality will go to 14.7%. ~1% as you experienced.
2) Antennas usually rated by the highest gain. So your 5dBi OEM antenna is probably 3dBi/5dBi @2.4/5GHz, and this one is actually rated 5dBi/7dBi.
3) If you're only looking for 2.4 performance get something like TP-Link TL-ANT2408CL or Rosewill RNX-A9-EX. They give 8-9dBi improvement by limiting radiating pattern to 360/15deg horizontal/vertical single floor plane.

3 out of 5 eggsSkip it

Pros: Price. Clean design.

Cons: Overall, only gave me a 1% increase in signal strength with the factory 5dbi antennae. Only one-axis rotation at pivot point, so you can't "aim" it at the AP. Granted, my application is very specific, but if your card/adapter/router came with a 5dbi, keep the factory one. [Did NOT try it on a 5ghz network, so if you're running 5ghz, disregard this review]

Other Thoughts: ~35 years tech knowledge, ~20 years networking. Not a BAD product, just didn't work for me.

5 out of 5 eggs7dbi wifi antenna

Pros: Great antenna. It incresed my signal strength from 4 bars to full spectrum. A very good buy, especially when on sale.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is a much better antenna than the one(s) that usually come with any wifi add-in card that you buy. Definitely a worthwhile purchase.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's ok...I guess...

Pros: It was on sale for $10 so I bought three for $30. It seems (keyword: probably) did something to increase the throughput of my Asus RT-N66U. I'm still getting 50% connectivity on 5GHz from my second room, but data transfer seemed to have increased a little bit. No hard numbers before and after the installation though. Fortunately, it looks as good as the original antenna for my router, but it is wider and longer than the original. Screws in perfectly into the router. It is dual band compatible.

Cons: I won't recommend this for its original price of $20 for the little gain you get (original has 5dBi and this has 7dBi). However, for 50% off, why not?
