5 out of 5 eggsNice once set up properly

Pros: Works great with my RT AC 66U router once you update firmware and reset the unit and do WPS again. I also like the 4 gig Ethernet ports and the price is right. I didn;'t need "extender" capabilities or 2.4ghz so I didn't have to pay for it either. just a 5ghz AC bridge. 2.4ghz is useless for multiple heavy streaming anyway. Running 3 of these with no issues whatsoever.

Cons: Shape of unit. wish it was shaped like a switch

Other Thoughts: 1. Update your router to latest firmware
2. push WPS setup on unit, then router
3. Update WUMC710 firmware (get from linksys website)
4. Reset WUMC710 with little button on bottom of unit
5. Do WPS setup again (step 2 above)
6. Give the WUMC710 a unique host name before adding another one (if you are going to add another)

2 out of 5 eggsGreat at first, now disconnects frequently

Pros: Good price. Looks nice in my living room. Great when it works.

Cons: It worked great at first, but now it keeps disconnecting every few hours and will not automatically reconnect. I have to power cycle it to get it to reconnect to my ASUS RT-AC68U router.

Other Thoughts: Why can't they just charge more and make reliable hardware? My time is valuable. I'd rather spend money up front to avoid having to waste hours of my life fighting with tempermental wireless gear.

4 out of 5 eggsgood for long distance

Pros: - I have a home server hidden in a closet due to the noise. it is in a room without network drops. this product gave me a solution and now I can stream from the server.

- I am not getting drops that others claim. (see other thoughts for my set up)

- Data transfer rate from my server to my pc (vice versa) is locked at 25MB/s. connection status states 500mb, which in a perfect world, i should be getting around 60 - 70MB/s. but 25MB/s is good enough for streaming 1080p videos with 5.1 surround.

- this media connector is around 50ft away from my router that the signal has to go through 4 walls including my kitchen and garage. connection is solid.

Cons: - came with out dated firmware. too many problems. if you get it, please update to newest firmware immediately.

- runs warm.

- no option for 2.4GHz

- Does not broadcast for extra wireless coverage. wireless only talks back and forth with router.

- even right next to the router, I've never surpassed 30MB/s on data transfer. my router is AC1900mbps rated, so i should be getting at least the max speed of this media connector which advertises as 1300mbps, which boils down to abount 160MB/s in a perfect world.

Other Thoughts: most people who purchased it had ping drop issues which explains streaming inconsistencies. here is what i did.

1. updated the firmware on the WUMC710
2. hit WPS on WUMC710 and my router for the connection
3. on my router, i disabled QoS but left QoS enabled on WUMC710.
4. set my router to broadcast 80MHz on my 5GHz and channel 157.
5. gave WUMC710 a reserved IP address w/ DHCP.

P.S. I am still messing with it for the best signal with speed. my goal is to reach at least 40MB/s so that others in my household can stream simultaneously without buffering issues.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Henry,

We appreciate your comprehensive feedback for the Linksys WUMC710. Thank you for letting us know about the challenges you had with it. This unit is specifically made as a wireless connecting bridge for 5GHz network. It connects to your wireless network to allow your wired devices like TV's, Blu-ray DVD players and gaming consoles to stream wirelessly. We suggest that you change the channel on your wireless network to either 1, 6 or 11 and observe if the data transfer improves. Feel free to email us at LinksysCares@linksys.com should you need further assistance. We'd be glad to assist you.

4 out of 5 eggsInexpensive 1300 Mbps 802.11ac solution

Pros: This bridge is extremely cheap, capable of three-stream 802.11ac. I have four running reliably in my home network. 585Mbps for the one furthest away from my router. With the previous 802.11n bridge, I was getting around 100Mbps from the same location. The other three WUMC710 bridges are running 800Mbps or higher.

Cons: Some units have hardware issues that cause them to randomly disconnect, does not support lower channels, limited number of systems supported through the LAN ports.

Other Thoughts: Here are tips to help others get these units running smoothly. I definitely think the cost savings are worth the setup hassle.

Flash to the latest firmware followed by a factory reset before you do anything else.

These will not connect to the AP on lower channels. Do a wireless survey where your AP is and manually configure it to use a clear higher frequency and specify 80MHz channel width. This is a good idea anyway. Auto config is rarely reliable.

From the web interface, do a survey to join the network. I found this to maintain more reliable connections than manually typing in the SSID.

Some units are problematic at the hardware level and will randomly drop wireless. I got 1 bad out of 5. Reflash the latest firmware, do a factory reset, and reconfigure. If that doesn't work, return it and get another.

Don't have too many systems/MACs attached to the LAN ports. I tried using one as a bridge to wirelessly connect my central AP to second AP that all my internet traffic goes through. It would randomly drop entries from the ARP cache and drop traffic. Was very frustrating to isolate this in a network where all the wireless components were upgraded at the same time.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Solution!

Pros: Supports 1 GB connection
Excellent range despite walls

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Took a while to get this device setup just right, but taking the time to tweak really paid off.

Sadly, a lot of devices such as PS3 or PS4 come with old school wireless cards so the newer 5GHz is not supporeted. With this device, I'm able to get awesome bandwidth for those old school wireless cards.

I have a Linksys WRT1900AC router. I have the following hooked up the media bridge: media pc, PS3, PS4, and Smart TV. Router configurating:wireless security to WPA2-personal, channel width 40Hz, network mode 802.11a/n only, and created a DHCP reservation for the bridge. Set the bridge to static IP.

I disabled QoS on all my computers because it was throttling bandwidth. Streaming blue-ray would cause file to get jittery or cause video blocking. Do not disable QoS on media bridge.

Very happy with this device.

4 out of 5 eggsUnexpectedly stable

Pros: Better stability than expected; no Wifi drops since this was installed a couple of weeks ago
Multiple Ethernet ports allow you to avoid using a switch

Cons: Runs a bit hot. I've added a usb powered netbook cooler to counter this

Other Thoughts: I've read a lot of reviews of this product and I was hesitant at first to order it. Most of the issues revolve around wifi disconnection, which seem either to be caused by heat or firmware issues. I placed the WUMC710 on a netbook cooler to force cool air into it. I also upgraded the firmware to version 1.0.02 as soon as I got it.

I installed a Wireless 802.11ac router (Asus RT-AC68U) the day before the WUMC710 arrived. The WUMC710 is located two floors and the width of my house apart. The Asus unit is in the basement.

I'm presently getting a connection speed of 877.5 Mbit, which is much better than the 200 Mbit powerline adaptors I had been using.

1 out of 5 eggsNever ending dropped connection

Pros: Easy to setup

Cons: I own two of these and both drop connectivity to my Netgear R7000 routers. Previously I used a Trendnet router and had the same problems with this bridge so I'm fairly certain the issue is with this Linksys bridge. At first I thought it was just a range issue but I moved one to around 15 feet with a line of sight of one of the routers and it still looses it's connection. The only correlation I could find is the probability of the dropped connection seems to increase during idle times.

Dropping the connection should be expected with any wireless equipment on occasion but the bad thing with this bridge is that it never reconnects and requires either a power cycle or you have to locally reboot it through the web interface. I'm an engineer and have worked with a lot of networking equipment over the years and I have never been so frustrated by network problems as I have been with this product.

When this bridge works properly it's fairly quick. I have seen problems moving media streams through it with a high data rate but that happens infrequently.

Other Thoughts: Linksys updated the firmware revisions *once* and this product has been on the market for at least three years. The last (2nd) update was 8/29/2013 so I think you can consider this hardware abandoned so even thought the price is cheap I wouldn't expect them to offer you any support if you can't get the bridge to operate correctly either.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsQuick setup, works like a charm!

Pros: If your router supports WPS, you can literally be connected in 30 seconds. Once linked, plug in the Ethernet cables for your devices, and you're good to go! I've been running the new setup for 3 days without a hiccup so far - better yet, it resolved the problem that my XBOX 360 S model has connecting over 802.11n on the WRT 1900AC's 2.4GHz band. I literally had to force the 2.4GHz band into b/g only mode in order to prevent connectivity issues on the 360 S - a problem that seems to prevalent with this console and a few of the newer routers on the market, after doing some additional research.

Cons: None that I can think of - my older PS3 that uses 802.11g can now download at 24Mbps over Ethernet via the Bridge.

Other Thoughts: Not a Con, but I hate it when devices don't have an On/Off switch - I hate plugging things in "hot". I like the minimalist design of the bridge, which looks exactly like the WET610N that it replaced in one of my media hubs. Given that this device is 1300AC, I really hope that Belkin/Linksys relaease a 1900AC version of this bridge to take advantage of the speed potential offered by my WRT 1900AC. Given the CES announcement of the WRT 1200AC, these bridges would partner nicely with that router.

5 out of 5 eggsLInksys WUMC710

Pros: I bought this as a way to upgrade the wireless performance on my PS3 and PS4 gaming consoles. I benchmarked the results using the built in Internet test in the PS3/PS4 networking setup. On the PS3 my data rates were roughly double the built in wireless rates. I was getting about 16mb downstream and now I'm almost getting 30mb downstream. On the PS4 my data rates were roughly 33% higher than the standard PS4 wireless. I was getting about 30mb downstream and now I'm getting 40mb+ downstream.

Cons: No issues so far!

Other Thoughts: I am using a TP-LINK WDR4300 router and it only supports 450MB on the 5g band. I think my results would be better with a faster router.

I read reviews where people reported issues with dropped signals. I have not encountered any issues like that. From my understanding, this device has more internal antennas than either the PS3 or PS4, so I expected it to have stronger reception (even after moving from 2.4ghz to 5ghz).

The device also did not require any customized setup, the WPS setup worked perfectly. I saw that some reviewers reported problems with this but I did not encounter any issues.

I bought this device from another retailer (xmas gift card), so it's not a "verified purchase", but I wanted to post a review here since newegg is where I purchase most of my goods and it is my favorite site for product reviews.

1 out of 5 eggsDrops Network

Pros: Easy to connect if you have a Linksys router with Wi-Fi Protected Setup.

Cons: Challenging, if not impossible, to setup if you don't have a router with Wi-Fi Protected Setup without updating the bridge's firmware.

I can not get it to stop dropping my wifi network, and it doesn't automatically reconnect.
