4 out of 5 eggsTablet For Gamers

Pros: There are many positive things on this Tablet, like, great viewing angles, amazing front speakers and a small Bass. Great for watching a movie on a trip.

Working out at home hasn't been so disappointed, the quality of the speaker is amazing. Great Stylus, using the EVGA drawing app it self are amazing. Its true about the sensitivity on the stylus.

I love the Tegras screen and the looks. I must say the design on this device is Solid. I used a 64 Micro SD and it works Fine.

The bad things about this is no Sim card can be used, because there is not slot of it. Definitely would be more worth it on the go.
Another bad things is the 5hr batter, Im all most always on my tablet sharing pictures videos and more. Its just not enough, the device cant keep up of what I do everyday. And Im a gamer so i need more than 5hr battery, Tegra should know better than this.

Cons: The bad things about this is no Sim card can be used, because there is not slot of it. Definitely would be more worth it on the go.

Another problem is the back of the Tegra note, inside of it, there a semi strong magnet. I am very worried about this magnet that if I put it on the same pocket or a sport bag it would collide to the phone. Not safe for other technology because of this back magnet, i assume its for the extra buy of the cover, but still there should not be this semi strong magnet on a device.

And about the Micro SD 64Gb Sure it works but in a standard mode. What i mean is if you have the 64GB Sandisk Extreme PLUS Like i Have now. You will not be able to use the SD card as it state. You must FORMAT It first to a slower MB transfer.

Other Thoughts: When the Sun or a light hits the Tegra Notes screen, you can see the Line that divides the pixel.
Worried about the Magnetic back.

5 out of 5 eggsWin!!!

Pros: Clean OS no bloat ware and is almost too clean to feel real.
OTA updates immediately to Kit-Kat if you desire
Fast! The one gig of memory does not limit this beast due to the quad (fifth core for battery saver mode)
The pen is very precise and after downloading Adobe Photoshop you can user sensitivity and pressure.
Great Battery life (I spent over 12 hours on Wi-Fi running updates and downloads on the first day alone)
Built in HDR camera and software is simply great! Has a built in alignment tools to get a perfect shot and great software for quickly editing colors, frames and effects.
Screen capture, crop and effects with the pen.
THIS IS A GAMING TABLET!!! I bought this for my business, photos and the ability to edit them easily and upload to the web from one platform. HOWEVER.... as one person put it, this is like having a 360 in your hands. The graphics are simply great, no bogging down, even while running at the same time and only 1gig of memory! Running Spotify, Adobe PS and twelve zombies coming after me in Dead Trigger, this beast did not slow. Even jumping the graphics on Dead Trigger all the way up made it unrealistically smooth, in a good way.
Apps are extremely responsive, even while running multiple applications and tasks. The only time I have bogged this thing down for a few seconds was streaming music, downloading a large game and playing dead trigger.
Wi-Fi is plenty responsive. Ignore the lack of 'AC', when has the newest iteration of wireless signals actually worked properly in the first year or two? Get over it!
For $200 this thing is killer. I got an open box and was overly pleased. It was As New. Plus I saved $50.
Magnetic cover is sweet, with three positions to hold it up and automatically puts the Tegra to sleep when closed.
Startup is very fast and waking is almost instantaneous when opening the cover.
Resolution is very good for this sized tablet. Higher would be nice but not so effective on this platform. This would also raise the price!
Charges fast and stays charged! The included charger will fill this beast up fast and steady. One hour on the plug and it is at least hallway charged. My usage ranges from sporadic to constant depending on the circumstances. This last weekend I had it at a Con booth displaying my website for the better part of six hours. It stayed on all day and only needed to be charged after I got home and began playing with it once again. Standby charges have also lasted me over five days while it is in sleep mode. No complaints on this devices battery or life whatsoever. The charger plug is bulky and heavy. Yet I see no complaint here…. There is obviously good technology in it. When used on my phone from a dead battery it charged it up completely in a time frame just under an hour. This is a good charger and worth the extra size and weight.

Cons: Screen lines, screen lines, screen lines! Remember those little lines on your old school Calculator screen when you got it into the sun? Well this guy has super thin lines which you can see in sunlight or excessive fluorescent lights. This is by far my single largest complaint! Again, it can usually be seen in only certain lighting conditions or reflections as this is a glass screen.
Front camera, meh! Not great, not horrible. But I am no Cam W*****.
For the magnetic cover, I like it. However the hinge feels weak I imagine it will break eventually. Magnetic hold on the highest level(sitting at the lowest open angle to the table) is slightly weak and will fall if pushed on, as in drawing on the tablet. This setting is best for watching movies, etc.

THIS IS NOT 64gig MicroSD compatable as earlier listed or debated. Not only has New egg changed their listing but I confirmed this with EVGA tech support. Which by the way, was great! I am an I.T. professional so I enjoy a level of service and well rendered expectations when contacting other IT/Tech departments. The tech was down to earth and helpful while not wasting my time of making me feel like I just called India.
*** I had my original post deleted in order to add this in:I ended up calling EVGA once again as the Note pen quit working. The tech was extremely helpful and advised they had never heard of this. I reset the OS and it worked again. This may be a glitch however, as two weeks later it glitched out for a day and quit working. A reboot did not fix the issue, it only started working the following day. This is concerning to me and I do hope not to see this as an ongoing issue. ***

Charger cable: Everyone complains about this but after use, you will get acquainted with it. It is slightly wonky and you have to come in at an angle. Feels slightly loose and odd but secure, it has a weird feel to it. Complaint: LONGER CABLE please.

Other Thoughts: I will update this as I go on and if service is ever needed on it. Photoshop has performed above expectations in some actions and below in others. Their performance is not necessarily related to the Tablet. The responsiveness of the pen is exceptional. A better and more developed iteration of the Note software would put this beast above and beyond Samsung. However, this is not the market they are approaching. For a $200 tablet (or less open box/on sale) this tablet is killer and I am excited with it. I am not a "fan" of EVGA or NVidia per say and was actually hesitant to buy this tablet even though it fit most of my requirements. I am surprisingly pleased and honestly looking forward to any potential developments of future devices like this! With few real negatives, the price point, speed, clean OS and outstanding performance of this product gives it a 5star rating as it is comparable yet faster to higher priced/end devices.

1 out of 5 eggsUnusable

Pros: Nice design and exterior

Cons: As soon as I took this out of the box, I updated it with the OTA updates, hoping it would solve the insane amount of screen flickering that was occurring. Disabling auto-brightness did not solve the problem. Updates did not solve the problem. Turns out, there is a "feature" on the tablet that causse massive flickering called PRISM, which is supposed to "dynamically adjust the contrast and brightness to blah blah blah". Anyways, as soon as I I untick the option for PRISM, the screen died. Would come back on, but couldn't stay on for more than two seconds. Did a factory reset, everything is "fine" again (if you count the insane flickering as fine) until the PRISM box is unchecked, then the screen dies again.

Other Thoughts: Sent in for RMA, took them less than three days to determine this thing was a bust and decide to ship me a new one. I think I should have asked for a refund instead.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great Finicky USB Connector

Pros: Fast. Excellent speakers. Stylus, writing with stylus. lightweight.

Cons: plugging the microUSB cord into the receiver on the tablet is a frustrating endeavor. If you don't angle it just right, it doesn't budge. after 10 or so struggling instances, I finally figured out how to get it done smoothly, but this is way too involved. I fear any member of my family trying to plug one of these in and just destroying the female/receiver on the tablet. I think the problem is that the tablet case curves on the surface where the socket is located. this is the reason for docking one egg. the USB cable is a joke (as most are - might be 3 ft long).

very precious few accessories available. you can grab a precut screen protector, and there's just one pre-molded case option (available only on newegg for $30). I would much prefer a TPU option.

Other Thoughts: from what I've read, the quality control on these isn't so great. there seem to be a worrying number of dead pixel complaints. mine was fine out of the box. reviews were much harsher early on, so I suspect it might have been something wrong with the launch batch?

I own the first generation Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. The stylus on the EVGA Tegra Note 7 is chiseled compared to the former's fine point. I don't like chiseled tips, but that's a personal preference.

This Tegra Note 7 is a steal. For the price of a Tab 3, you get something that performs as well as, if not better in some aspects, the Galaxy Note 7. Personally, I think the Samsung's are just overpriced and use proprietary connectors. The intro into the "note" market by EVGA will hopefully make Samsung more honest and move them away from those proprietary technologies.

accessories should start cropping up. it's taking longer than I thought, but with these features at this price, this little device is going to catch on.

3 out of 5 eggsEVGA TEGRA NOTE 7 Woe's

Pros: Pretty much all that has been said/reviewed are a plus. :D

Cons: I have purchased 2 at Xmas time for my mother & daughter. Neither are tech savvy but wished after mom was due for an upgrade to her Google one, I thought this would "Wow!" her based on specs. Well, 2 weeks ago, I get the call. Apparently she must have gotten the dreaded 'Android Kit Kat update' and now it's stuck in a 'boot loop'. She had to let it drain out just to shut it off. It's now in my hands and I'm VERY disappointed. I hope EVGA is listening!!!! Any suggestions? Is there a recovery or return to stock mode option????!!!! She misses her tablet time! HELLO!?!?!
~on the other hand, my daughter's is still going strong and she' using it for college :) ...however, after reading some 'forums' with suggestions from various end users, 'Turn off nSaver option and auto updates to avoid the Kit Kat plague'!!!
"Help us EVGA, You're our only hope!" (princess leiea reference there ;)

Other Thoughts: Great specs and I thought this would be the ultimate tablet with wonderful bells & whistles. Hope she can get it RMA'd or replace or whatever. My family has gone tech since the "Tablet Age" has come to fruition. :(

3 out of 5 eggsMostly good but....

Pros: This thing is extremely speedy, I'm impressed how much quicker it is over some of my other devices. The speakers are quite good and give you surprisingly loud and decent sound for listening to music. It also comes with a mostly stock UI so no extra applications you don't need or want wasting ram and running when you don't want them too. The stylus is very responsive through a bit laggy. They actually put a setting for controlling the lag and it defaults to half a second instead of no lag, not sure why they set that as the default.

Cons: The screen has a little back light bleed, something that would probably annoy others more than me. No flash on the camera is kind of a downside too. I also noticed a problem where it won't stay connected to the computer via USB when you are trying to transfer files.
The biggest downside on this tablet is the GPS, is useless, it takes anywhere between 10 to 30 minutes to get a fix. and it will remember that for a couple hours, then it will once again take 10 to 30 minutes to get a fix. Usually something I'd only bump one egg for but since they designed it not to work I bumped off 2.
Another thing is the camera app on the stock release doesn't have a settings menu so you can turn off location for your photos.

Other Thoughts: I'd recommend this device to anyone who doesn't want it for GPS or anything related to GPS. About the only things I do with this tablet is light browsing, gaming, listening to music, and using it for navigation.

2 out of 5 eggsPlayback stutters.

Pros: The speakers are as good as everyone says they are - loud and clear.

Cons: Audio playback always starts stuttering about 30 seconds in, defeating the entire purpose of the fantastic speakers. Google Play Music, Pandora, and even podcasts (that are downloaded, so it's not a connection issue). It doesn't stutter video playback, though.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to be a sort of digital jukebox - something I could take around the house with me and listen to music or watch Netflix on. It's great for that, with the light weight and smart cover, but the playback issues ruin it. It's also already past the 30 refund period from Newegg, so I'm stuck with it.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Joshua S,
I apologize for the speaker/sound issues you are having with your Tegra Note 7. If you haven’t done so already we would recommend update to OTA 2.1. Please keep in mind that you can do a direct RMA with EVGA if you would like to get your unit repaired. Feel free to contact us 24/7 at 888.881.3842 option 1 or by email at

5 out of 5 eggsevga note 7 tegra 4

Pros: tegra 4 1.8ghz CPU with the option of power setting. balance with low and high demanding usage of the CPU by application usage. gaming is what this tablet is but also use for note taking with the pin and the precision of the 4th core. the screen size is perfect for the tablet, no need for a larger size. 1 Gig of ram is good for a whole day of usage application. 16 Gig of space is small but the sd card slot is expandable up to 32Gig of storage. tested my self. very powerful and well build. i have used this tablet for a month and overall 5 egg.

Cons: sd card slot not workable after update 4.4 os.

micro usb wiggles when charging or transfering files to pc

battery life is short. real short. 6 hrs in savings power setting with no wifi.

Other Thoughts: to expand the battery usage i used the anker 2nd gen astro3 12000mAh portable battery charger.

if the tablet is in 4.2, update to 4.3. do not. do not update to 4.4 because the os will not let the sd card to read and write.
buy the sandisk ultra 32 GB SDHC for expandable storage and transfer of app/files for os 4.3. i use this card for my college files and gaming app

3 out of 5 eggsOK and far from perfect

Pros: FAST!

Cons: Only 1GB RAM. Low screen resolution. Short battery life (about 7 hours compared to 10+ of Nexus 7 Gen 1). Tiny power and volume buttons. Difficult to plug into microUSB for charging. Cannot play 1080 (and even some 720) HD video in Adobe Flash player (my Nexus 7 Gen1 with Tegra 3 also has Android 4.2 and can play 1080 with Adobe Flash without problem).

Other Thoughts: DON'T UPDATE TO ANDROID 4.4 KITKAT, it is full of problems (the biggest one being cannot use micro SD card!). My tablet came with 4.2.2. I tried out 4.2.2, 4.3 and 4.4.2 and ended up going back to 4.2.2 which I find is the most stable (I have my tab rooted and CWM installed).

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Kung C,
I am sorry to hear you are having some issues with your Tegra note. This table has a battery life capable of running 10+ hours of HD playback. As for the SD card and 4.4 Kitkat with how the OS is designs the apps need to have 4.4 support in order to use the SD card. If you are still having issues we would recommend running the OTA 2.1 update. We are here to assist you with all the issues you are having, feel free to contact our 24/7 support at 888.881.3842 or email

5 out of 5 eggsPowerful 7" tablet for cheap

Pros: Sound is above average for a tablet. Very clear. On par with a decent laptop PC. Front facing speakers are the best design period. If you want better sound, use a Bluetooth speaker or headphones.

Apps are very smooth and moving through the user interface is seamless.

Stylus works good, haven't played with it much yet, but I plan on using this tablet out in the field at work to take notes on drawings, etc.

The magnets in the rear of the tablet are perfect for holding this tablet to anything steel.

WiFi range and speed is decent. Bluetooth works good and quickly pairs with devices as well.

Installed a class 10 PNY 32 GB micro SD card I had laying around, worked good.

Hardware is very good. At this price range its quite a bargain. This is my first non video card EVGA product. I have bought their graphics cards for years and have been happy with their performance.

Feels about the same build quality as my first gen nexus 7.

Cons: Like everyone has been saying, the USB port and the HDMI port are going to be the weak point in this tablet. Its really a shame they didn't put more effort into a nicer fitting connector. Besides that, this budget tablet in my opinion is perfect.

Other Thoughts: This unit had android version 4.2 installed and I upgraded to 4.3. I have waited before pushing the newest release of android (kit kat 4.4) because I am a tad worried about loosing some functionality with the micro SD slot (as some other users have pointed out). For now, I am staying with the 4.3 release. I will install the newer release when the bugs get worked out.

A screen protector is on my list of things to get, I did buy the folding cover. 30 bucks is a little steep, but it works.
