ICON Loading...

The stylish MacBook is a sprightly replacement for your heavy old laptop! At just 1.08" thick, the MacBook with its 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor gives you brilliant color and clear graphics, and up to 6 hours of battery life. You’ll be amazed at the simple elegance of the Mac utilities, like Mac Mail, iCal, and iPhoto, which is truly the easiest photo management utility ever! Speaking of photos, iMac comes with a built-in iSight camera, which takes still photos, video, and serves as a webcam.

You get easy connections thanks to the MacBook’s I/O panel, featuring 2 USB 2.0 ports, a Fire Wire 400 connector, and 802.11n WiFi technology, specifically designed to work with the AirPort Extreme Base Station, with data transfers up to 5 times faster than 802.11g. MacBook is also Wi-Fi Certified to work with 802.11a, 802.11b, or 802.11g wireless routers.

In addition to its impressive host of hardware features, MacBook runs on the wonderfully stable Mac 10.4 Tiger operating system, so you can spend more time working, and less time facing down the blue screen of death! The MacBook brings you a powerful set of tools to take all the aggravation out of multi-media management, and sets a new benchmark for reliability and performance.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent purchase

Pros: Lovely, crisp 13" display; makes watching movies and television shows comfortable on the eyes. Sleek, light-weight design with no bulky ports or jacks thrown all about the outside bottom case; neatly placed on the left side. The Intel 2.16ghz Core2Duo processor with 2GB RAM makes multitasking a breeze, leaving lagging system issues a thing of the past. MagSafe magnetic power adapter is a very handy feature as well. No more damage from accidentally yanking the power adapter out the side. Very clear built in audio in/out, along with clear and stunning iSight camera.

Cons: Smudge marks can appear quite easily on the case, especially on the screen and top case where your palms rest. Trackpad does the same thing; over long period of use, "glossy" area appears on trackpad and has different "oily feel" than origionally. Easy ignored tho.

No backlit keyboard. Although a nifty feature on the previous PowerBook series, Apple decided to remove that function in this line of notebooks. Gotta upgrade to the MacBook Pro for that extra spice of elegance.

Other than the minor setbacks previously stated, nothing bad to say about the Apple MacBook at all.

Other Thoughts: Very first Apple notebook owned, wouldn't dare think about turning back to PC laptops. Extremely easy to understand the ropes, user friendly, and also adds that FreeBSD feeling for Unix veterans.

A must-buy for any average to advanced computer user. Great for bridging into Mac OSX world from Windows. There is also software available to run many Windows applications without a problem.

Not intended for game-hungry buyers, that's why the MacBook Pro is also available.

5 out of 5 eggsWait to buy

Pros: Good laptop

Cons: The newer processors are coming out from Intel, which means less heat, more battery life, and better overall performance. If you're looking to get a new laptop from apple, I would wait until the newer 45 nm processors are out.

Other Thoughts: Happy laptoping!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat.. but not a "powerhouse"

Pros: My friend has this notebook, and lets me use it when I'm over..

Everything's just... nice.
looks sexy..

Apple is a HARDWARE company. Everything fits nicely... lid closes tightly, parts don't bend and squeak...
Battery life is great.. runs for hours on end w/ the battery.

Cons: Not a power-notebook. Will start lagging once you open up big photoshop files while multitasking other things..
Oily smudges show on the wrist-pad and lid.

Other Thoughts: Don't expect to do any heavy work on a 13" macbook..

If I had money left after buying my desktop pc, I'd definitely get the macbook for everyday use, writing papers, browsing the web, playing music, etcetera.

5 out of 5 eggsEverything you need... right out of the box!

Pros: Beautiful, sexy machine. The glossy display is crisp and clear. Mac OS performs better than any OS out there, it's low overhead on your resources mean quicker responding applications with huge gains on performance as compared to Windows. I bought this to be more portable and found it performs just as nicely as my Intel iMac @ 2.0GHz. I run CS3, and Final Cut Pro and I can run them both at the same time with no lag, with 2GB RAM.

The magnetic induction power supply is absolute genius and it has saved my life at least once.

I work support for a living with a large organization that is PC. When people complain about Windows freezing, crashing, and getting clogged up with malware I let them know it doesn't have to be like this, your experience can be better... buy a mac, any mac you won't regret it. Now to get my boss to let me bring this to work...

Cons: This machine shows fingerprints, if you can call that a con.

Apple still has not gotten battery power right. I get 2-3 hours with normal activity. This is a step up from the iBook though.

The unusual 13.3 size is nice for portability, but finding a bag can be a pricing endeavor. I recommend a neoprene sleeve from ISIS Covers then using whatever you can find.

Other Thoughts: OSX.5 Leopard will be out sometime this month at a cost of $xxx if you choose not to wait.

5 out of 5 eggsShould've have "switched" sooner

Pros: Really wow, I work for a pc store as a tech, first Apple and I love it. OSX is great, trust me would have never thought I'd love it this much. First things first, props to JD for making me realize how great these are. Booting and returning from sleep mode windows users get ready for crazy speed. Great battery life, amazing wireless built in(I get better range and speed than any other laptops I've used or repaired(thats a lot). All kinds of nifty things built in and with 1Gb of ram its amazingly fast no matter how many programs I play with. Slot loading dvd is great. For a laptop they don't get any better than this(not a gaming machine but its an inch thick people!) So far there aren't any programs I can't use or need. Oh and unlike windows the amount of RAM you have free does not directly correlate to your performance. Its always fast. The LCD and shortcut keys are a blast! The whole operating system and laptop is great. Forget about bootcamp and XP or VISTA.

Cons: The only real qualm I have with it so far is the speakers aren't that loud. For laptop speakers they are clear and do decent volume but aren't as loud as some I've heard...then again I shouldn't keep trying to listen from other rooms. Oh and why do they ship and entirely black computer with a white charger and cable.....I thought it would bother me more than it does(really doesnt matter)

Other Thoughts: I don't know what people are saying about hot, like I said I'm a technician and my enclosure bottom hits 92F to 94F full load with the battery hot and charging, which is less than the human body temp, and the chip is well within spec for a mobile core2duo.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Productivity Laptop

Pros: The Macbook is an excellent productivity laptop. It just works, like the commercials claim. OS 10 is easy to use. The programs open and work seamlessly. I recommend getting the 2 GB of RAM especially if you are going to do heavy duty multitasking using Adobe CS3 and all of it's huge programs. Get the extra RAM from a third party. Apple charges waaaay too much for RAM. The display is clean. The keyboard and tracker pad works great. All of the iLife programs (photo, tunes, web, garage band, photo booth) work great as well. This is a great laptop with an excellent reliability over the last year since the Intel chips debuted. Well worth the money to get away from beta testing another Microsoft operating system!

Cons: Notice I said "productivity" in my title. This laptop is a very good machine for productivity. It, however, is not a gaming machine. If you want to play games on a Mac laptop you have to pony up the extra bucks and get a Macbook Pro. This is why I gave it 4 eggs instead of 5.
Heat. This laptop gets hot! Your "laptop" will get hot too if you are running videos. Fingerprints can be an issue. The black mat finish leaves behind fingerprints this is not that big a deal to me but can be to some.

Other Thoughts: Good overall laptop. I think this would be an excellent machine for the average person. It is a good investment for the money.

5 out of 5 eggsMacBook Black = Teh Pwn

Pros: Where to start... This is an excellent laptop. Battery lasts about 4-5 hours. OS X is simply amazing; organized, easy and beautiful interface, great feel for they keyboard, trackpad and its scrolling methods (2 fingers = scroll up/down). What else... Wireless N Airport. Easy volume buttons. All software "just works." Powerful processor. 1GB is enough. Desktop is customizable. Slot-loading DVD-RW drive is nice. The "Front Row" remote is a cool feature. Built-in iSight for video chatting. Finder is pretty cool, much more useful than a stupid "search" in xp. Oh, and there is bootcamp if you want to use XP or vista (i installed windows for about 10 min and then immediately deleted it). Bootcamp is great; you can repartition the drive to fit windows or delete windows and assign the space back to OS X with literally the click of a button. The CPU is pretty quick; Super Pi-ed 1M in about 30 seconds. 1GB RAM is great. I'm sure i mentioned that all the software is amazing.

Cons: I read reviews on Apple's site about the power adapter, and EVERY SINGLE REVIEW gave it one star. They said something about the wire fraying on either end of the MagSafe side. My suggestion: tape up the ends and keep them STRAIGHT. Do NOT use the prongs to wrap up the cord. I only pray that this practice will spare me from having to buy an $80 adapter. The graphics sucks but i didn't mind as i'm using this for productivity and not gaming. Temps idle around 45-50C and load above 65; i use "Fan Control" to monitor temps and adjust fan speed. Sound/speakers kinda suck. Fingerprints look BAD, so keep it clean! Only 2 USB ports. You have to buy an adapter to get VGA/DVI-out.

Other Thoughts: Overall, i give this lappy 5 eggs. The design of both the hardware and software are excellent. Bootcamp worked great; you put in a blank CD and it writes windows drivers so that you can put it in after you install windows and get the drivers without any online searching. It gets windows working right out of the box just like how it comes with OS X. I deleted windows after about 10 mins of use because i realized i don't need it. OS X does everything that i want, save for gaming. I haven't touched my PC since except to play games; games are the only software i've run on my PC for a while. The pros make this laptop an excellent choice, and the cons are rather negligible (save for the power adapter problem). This laptop is excellent for anybody at all, as long as they are not interested in gaming.
