5 out of 5 eggsApple MacBook Pro

Pros: I have built several systems and am quite knowledgeable at both hardware and software. I have 5 PCs at home and 3 notebooks - PCs/Windows. Purchased a MacBook Pro this summer and was so pleasently suprised as to the performance and reliability of the new Macs that I am going to buy myself an iMac in the next month - Christmas present to myself. The new OSx is amazingly reliable and easy to adapt to as the new OS is VERY user friendly - you can't NOT learn how to use these Macs. I have the newest OSx - Leopard 10.6...something. It runs like a dream! I maxed out the hard drive - a 250gig to the point of having less than a half a gig left and it ran just as smoothly as if I had nothing on the computer. The Macs are not only user friendly, reliable but are NOT prone to the amount and ease of virii as Windows PCs. Worth the money - especially at this price!

Cons: Wish it had more USB ports - as mine has only 2!! Very proprietory and software/hardware - way too expensive. So do the research on what you are ultimately looking to do with this system.

Other Thoughts: Nice that the Mac systems don't come with a bunch of bloated softwares that I'd and most people, would never use...and would just be a waste of hard drive space. It is a big bonus that I don't waste so much time fixing this or that as I do on Windows PCs and I build solid machines with the best rated/reliable parts. Go figure!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Built In Camera, OSX, Battery LIfe, Screen, .... Quadboot OSX, VISTA, XP, Ubuntu

Cons: Expensive for comparative hardware

Other Thoughts: I am a Microsoft System Administrator (3 Microsoft Certs) and I never thought I would buy a Mac, but recently for a number or reasons (including the fact that I could run windows) I bought a MAC...I love it! It has been a wonderful notebook, I would say my best yet. I definitely recommend 4gb and a 7200 rpm notebook hard drive (I replaced mine before booting up the first time). I'm going to buy an IMAC for my wife because of this experience. Be prepared to purchase a number of new software applications, I had to get all kinds of stuff to keep my daily job going consulting for different networks. I also love how intrigued people are when the PC Repair guy shows up using a MAC I've had a number of very good debates..The best part is when someone starts talking about how horible the PC or about how bad the MAC is I can speak from both sides of the spectrum and be respected.

5 out of 5 eggsYou Get what you Pay for

Pros: I would Like to tell everyone you get what you pay for. If you were to get a Laptop that would run Vista the way it should then you would have one expensive Laptop and I had priced them out at Dell, Sony, HP, and Toshiba. I had a laptop the was just about $1000 over what I paid for the Macbook Pro. Nobody Gets it Through Their Thick Heads. Buy a Good Solid Computer and it will take care of you. those whom need to run Vista ... Buy a Mac you will not regret it ever.

Cons: Non I had a few problems but they were something I did.

Other Thoughts: I run Vista Pro on mine for almost a year and I had not ONE Crash or Lockup. The Only reason I use Vista is one of my software make it only for The PC. Throw away and get something that works. and that is a MacBook Pro. I also Just upgraded to a 24" iMac do do some HD Video I put a 1TB HD on it plus I have 2 - 2TB External HD as Backup (You need that plus some more when You work with High Def Video and need the big screen plus it Looks really Cool. I have the iMac for 3 months

5 out of 5 eggsMac Labtop

Pros: Sleek look, quite, fast and amazing display. This labtop has all of the goodies. If you are into graphic design or scientific research like myself, you will love this computer. I have used macs before in a lab, but never owed one. I have to say that I am thoroughly impressed. I still have to debugg myself from windows, to OSX, but so far so good!

Cons: The casing seems a little bit fragile, so you have to be really careful. The pricing is a bit on the high side, but you get what you pay for. It gets really hot, which is something that I don't like, but most laptops that I have owned have done that.

Other Thoughts: Really good computer and worth the investment. Photo editing is really good with macs. It doesn't dissapoint with this computer. Best to use adobe photoshop. All around excellent computer.

2 out of 5 eggsNot so great

Pros: Mac OS has some really nice features, it's stylish.

Cons: The aluminum case sure looks nice but it dents very easily. Very power battery life and reliability. Display problems, Apple pricing....

Somehow a dent ended up on the top of my laptop (I take good care of it) and it actually cracked my display. I went down to the local Apple store and quoted me 700$ to fix it. I looked online and Apple said 600$. I ended up buying the display online for ~280$ and replaced the screen in about an hour myself.

Other Thoughts: Our school rolls in this lab top with our tuition (it comes with a lot of software that we use on the cheap) so everyone of the 50 people in my case has one. After about 14 months only 3 of the people don't have dents and/or something else wrong with their computer.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply Awesome!

Pros: OS X is just plain awesome. I've had this thing for 8 months and still haven't gone through every feature on it. Put it this way. I'm always finding something new to play with or help out on something that might improve my efficiency. OS X coupled with Firefox 3.0 is what every computer user needs. Simply the best laptop on the market.
Wireless networking is a cinch. Downloading images from my cell phone and Canon S3 is a piece of cake. Add Google Earth and take this baby anywhere and everywhere.

It is a shame that I grew up using Micro... darn can't remember the name of that other company. You know the one that monopolized the market.

Cons: Runs HOT... a little high priced.

Other Thoughts: Apple, I believe you finally have the right combination of hardware and O/S. It would be in your best interest to lower the prices dramatically on these OS X systems right now. Do it now and take advantage of that other garbage O/S out there. What is it called... vistacrap! I'm tired of hearing other buyers asking me for a recommendation and all I get is "oh those things cost to much". I can't defend Apple after that comment. It is true. Although you get what you pay for. I'm happy with this thing. Money well spent, but other less fortunate can not afford.

5 out of 5 eggsfirst mac ever

Pros: Wow, this laptop blows every other laptop ive ever had out of the water, it runs fast, all of the features it has are amazing, and osx amazes me.

Cons: takes a little getting used to (minimal) i have never ran a mac before and it took me just a few days to figure out most of the little ins and outs there are to a mac. things like using "command" instead of "ALT" was different. but its mostly just getting used to some of the ascetic things, its no biggy

Other Thoughts: me and my mom got 2 laptops at the same time, her an HP pavillion running Vista, mine is this beauty. Her wifi already broke, her HDD is full from a glitch that saves back ups too much. its a mess! mine is still awesome. hardware wise, os wise, this laptop is just better BY FAR. if your on the fence drop down on the mac side and stay there forever! and if your a student, go to a mac store, get a $300 discount and an itouch. the two work together SO well that its sick! i can control itunes on my mac from down the street with my ipod.

5 out of 5 eggsThree months, No Problems. Am I in love?

Pros: First, the support Apple gives you is amazing. This computer is nice. Of course everyone knows how sleek Apple computers are, but the look of a Pro verse the regular MacBook is a big step up. The computer is fast, encodes quickly. I run Firefox 3, Final Cut Pro 6, Photoshop CS3, and watch High Definition shows without flaw (Yes, all at the same time). Hook up a second monitor and you have an easy replacement for a desktop! With 4 GB of RAM this is easily one of the fastest laptops on the market. Don't look at specs, look at Benchmarks.

Cons: Wish bootcamp ran side-by-side, but hardware wise... nada.

Other Thoughts: Don't get the upgrade to 4GB of RAM from Apple, buy it off of Newegg and save yourself a hundred dollars.

2 out of 5 eggsDon't judge a book by its cover

Pros: Sleek design. If you live near an Apple Store, you're golden.

Cons: First, the battery life is terrible. Within 1 month, I couldn't unplug it from the wall for more than 1 minute without it turning off (not even entering sleep mode). I went to the store and got the battery replaced, free of charge. A month after getting a new battery, the thing only lasts a little over a half hour.

People always tell me that Macs are so much better and don't suffer from the same problems that PCs do. The better part...subjective, the part about not suffering from the same problems...true, to a certain degree. Macs appear to run smooth and error free, because of the clean OS interface and the lack of error messages. When software fails, it just closes. So if you hate error messages, good for you. However, if you like fixing problems, bad for you. There is also this random redundancy system that leaves copies of random files everywhere (mainly in your library folders).

Other Thoughts: I can't imagine these things lasting too long, since under default fan settings, they idle at nearly 60 degrees C. If you're getting one, make sure you adjust the fan speeds or get software that does, or it'll live a short life.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's a Stsrt

Pros: Nice Portable Design and very cool in the looks department. Installed Windows Vista with Boot Camp and updated the drivers. Both OS run well.

Cons: Easy is scratch. After a few hours use, the computer gets very hot. Would not recommend resting on lap.

Other Thoughts: Install more memory and get a larger hard drive. Apple needs to work on the heat issue and make the case a little tougher, other than that the laptop is good.
