Top Notch Machine
- Pros: I am an IT professional and have been using PCs for over 22 years. This is my first Mac and I am now converted. To sum it up: it just works and everything makes sense.
Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks. One of the biggest fears about converting to Mac is having to relearn everything. My friends, I am here to tell you that it took less than a day for me to learn my way around OS X.
Enough about the OS. What about this particular laptop.
The 17" MBP w/ Penryn processor is a phenomenal machine. I currently have mine configured with Parallels 3.0 (you can use VMWare Fusion if you prefer) and I have Windows XP and SuSE Linux installed. I also utilize Boot Camp to run Windows natively for those windows only games (even old timers like games).
The MBP looks great, is light weight, and a joy to operate. The display is simply awesome. There is no other way to say it. People come by my office and continually comment on it.
- Cons: The MBP does get warm; however, the Penryn processor that this model comes with is built on the 45nm core opposed to the 65nm core of its predecessor. This means that it uses less power and produces less heat.
Even though I love this Mac it is hard to deny that they are more expensive than the average computers. This isn't really a con since you get what you pay for.
If you think there is no difference between a Ford Pinto and a Lexus, then you probably won't buy a Mac. You can buy a Asus EEE PC laptop for $300. However, if you value quality and you like for things to work when you want them to work. Then you will understand and you will enjoy this laptop.
- Other Thoughts: I have yet to see the OS X operating system crash. Unlike Windows "Blue Screen of Death" which completely restarts the computer, OS X will force quit the application only.
Applications will crash regardless of what operating system you use; however, shouldn't you still be able to use your computer without having to wait for it to reboot?
For Gamers:
I can run Age of Conan through Boot Camp w/ Windows XP without any issues... on a MacBook Pro. If you know about this game, you will know that there are people complaining that their $5,000 gaming desktops can't run the game properly. I have been running it fine since the beta.
I also run games like Battlefield 2 and any other FPS or MMO you can think of.
You can't go wrong with a machine that is this versatile.
What A Computer, Amassing Job 
- Pros: The 17" MacBook Pro from Apple has to be one of their best computers ever (so far). It has a fast and quiet cooling system, hard disk, and leopard OS X 10.5 works beautifully on the 17" high-res screen, along with the DVD burner and 250 GB HDD. Plus, Apple is very generous when it comes to ports. You ged a DVI (that can also be an HDMI port if you get a certain cable), 3 USB ports, a firewire 400 and 800 port, 802.11 b/g/n ethernet and AirPort, express card slot, audio in and out, plus apple's own MagSafe power connector. I went from a small iBook G4 to this beast from heaven and it was worth every penny I spent. The keyboard will even light up when it gets too dark and the screen will dim or brighten thanks to a mood light sensor. Also, for a desktop replacement, it is light in the hand. Almost light enough that you forget you have it in your hand (: Also, the AirPort and Bluetooth are always fast and ready to connect you to the digital world.
- Cons: The only one I can think of is it will get a little worm when you are using it while it's charging.
- Other Thoughts: I would recommend this slice of heaven to someone who would like to take the power of a Mac Pro (desktop) with them, where ever they go. If you are a graphic designer, very busy business man, collage student with a lot of term papers to write, or a extreme mac gammer (yes apple does have a lot of very fun, well-designed games), this bad bay is right up your ally. I use it to write papers, surf the internet, manage my digital life, and play around with the built-in iSight in Photo Booth. If you are looking for something like the MacBook Pro, but not as costly, try a MacBook, the smaller, and more student friendly form of an Apple Laptop.

Mac vrs Vaio 3 gig pentium processor
- Pros: Nice design as far as looks go. Some nice features as far as the key board lighting up at night or under low light. I also like the power supply quick disconnect that is used. But the power supply does leave a little to be desired.
I also like that when you hook up an other keyboard and that the keyboard and mouse work the same as they work on a PC with xp or Vista.
- Cons: Flimsy feeling the case feels like it will dent easy. The material is thin and gives when picking it up. It makes you feel like it will dent or bend. A real pain to set up for the internet. Slow It takes it 4 times longer than my old laptop that is only a 3 gig Pentium processor. It is also very slow on email. And it is a pain to get it to try to get my hotmail or live email accounts even using the Microsoft program for mac or outlook. 5200 rpm hard drive is also a bad idea as well as putting in a 250 gig hd instead of a 500 gig 7200 When you pay as much as you do for this computer it should have more in it. I upgraded it to 4 gig of ram though that hasnt helped the computer on the internet it has helped it with Final Cut Pro. But a 7200 rpm drive would help much more.
- Other Thoughts: Mac is pretty cheaply made. We will see how long it will last when under high usage. It is heavier than my old PC Laptop.
I always thought that Mac included all the programs you needed to do your work. But I am finding that it does not include everything you need and you have to buy a bundle of programs to be able to do your work.
I will make sure I update this review and the 3 eggs I gave is because I rounded up in favor of the Mac book pro even though I probably should have only given 2 eggs

- Pros: Extremely lightweight and thin for a 17".
- Cons: needs hdmi and e-sata.
- Other Thoughts: i'm pretty sure the pictures associated with this are of a 15" macbook pro, not the 17"
Awesome buy
- Pros: Everything about this laptop is top notch. From other reviews I read before I purchased, this mac book actually doesn't get that hot. I was thinking of getting some kind of heat diffuser for my lap and I am glad I waited because I don't need it.
- Cons: The size. I'm a full time student, so I need a case that will hold my books and this mac book. And so far I haven't found one I like. There hasn't been a big selection online or in retail stores for 17in laptops. Also, if you're a wifi user in cafes or restaurants, I suggest getting used to sitting at a four seater table instead of a two seater table. This notebook is so big it takes up half the table depending on what size table you sit at.
- Other Thoughts: I've used Linux and Windows based PCs for the last 16 years. Converting to Apple isn't as hard as people make it out to be. There are some differences in the keyboard shortcuts but keep an open mind when learning.
