4 out of 5 eggsactually pretty decent

Pros: Came in original box, mostly very clean, fresh OS install

Cons: Not factory refurbished... not really refurbished at all for that matter, just very clean. A couple scratches on the bottom of note. No apple warranty, not possible to purchase applecare either.

Other Thoughts: If you can score a good discount like the v.me promo or similar then this is a fantastic deal.

5 out of 5 eggsReturn of Defective Laptop

Pros: Simple process, cost free, efficient system.

Cons: Obviously the need to return defective merchandise! and the resultant downtime.

Other Thoughts: I had an old macbook in which the logic board died and it would have cost more to repair it than the machine was worth so bought a refurbished laptop, 2 years old, from New Egg. Had it a week, loaded all the upgrades etc and additional software and data and then...it ceased booting. Called New Egg, they explained the return process, they sent a UPS shipping label, I put it back in the box and sent it back. That easy. And as there were no comparable ones in stock they processed a refund. I don't hold the defunct laptop against them, these things do happened, that's why we backup.

It would be good however to be assured that the hard drive would be wiped of better yet physically destroyed to erase all of my data on it. (I thought of this later and didn't ask.)

3 out of 5 eggsThere's a 90 day warraty through Newegg

Pros: Have this model, bought elsewhere, and it's pretty good once you upgrade the RAM.

Cons: To the previous reviewer, there is a warranty, but it's through Newegg, not Apple. Apple would only give you a warranty based on the original purchase date, so if it's older than a year, you're out of luck with them. I haven't had very good luck with Newegg with another MacBook that was missing the charger and all scuffed up, but if it dies within the 90 days, they should be able to do something. You do get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: Read the listings better, especially the warranty info. It's all right there. Not fantastic, but not a paperweight.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked for 2 weeks

Pros: System was clean, and almost cosmetically flawless

Cons: After two weeks of use, if you turn the system off, good luck trying to get it back on. Even after resetting the SMC the system thinks the battery is fully charged, when it is only 90 percent charged. I have gotten it to power on once in the last 48 hours I have been messing with this thing.

It comes with no warranty so I'm stuck with an $850 dollar paper weight.

Other Thoughts: the listing says that the original price was 1599.99. That was perhaps 3 years ago when this system was brand new. you can buy almost the same laptop with an i5 for $1150 now. If I had known I'd be dealing with this, I would have spend the additional money for a brand new system.
