5 out of 5 eggsBEST LAPTOP

Pros: The laptop came with MAC OSX 10.5.7, I updated it to 10.5.8 from downloads, then updated some firmware etc. I purchased the OSX Snow Leopard from for 29.99 and a Muskin 2GBx2GB 667MHZ Memory, the 200 pin version from NEWEGG. I installed the Memory and the computer recognized the 4GB of memory. I have since installed snow leopard and lion on the Macbook and it works like charm.
So you pay $489 and you get a Macbook with 120GB HDD, 1GB Memory, with OSX 10.5.7 i updated it for about $100 more so this is by far the best option on the market if you are looking for a Macbook cheap. I now regret having paid $960 for my macbook pro, I should have purchased one of these. This one is for my wife and I'm really happy with it and so is she. It works like my Macbook pro.

Cons: None, I should not have believed the bad reviews and purchased my first Mac from Newegg and I would have paid less $$$ and got a perfect laptop. I'm happy with it and have no cons whatsoever.

Other Thoughts: The laptop actually comes with 120HDD, and OSX 10.5.7. You can easily update the preinstalled 1GB memory for 49.99 if you purchase a Mushkin Enhanced 4GB (2x2) from Newegg, and a snow leopard dvd from apple, then once you update to snow leopard 10.6.8 you can download OSX Lion from the app store for 29.99 and update it, so for less than $600 you have a wonderful laptop. I love it, it's for my wife though LOL!

3 out of 5 eggsPretty nice for the money

Pros: Looks nearly new! I upgraded to Lion and added 1GB bringing it up to 2GB total.

Bonus 120GB Hard drive
Bonus Leopard Installed
Bonus Super drive (Broken)

Cons: DVD Super drive broken
Battery toast
Light Scratches

Other Thoughts: Its pretty good buy if you don't mind repairing a few things. Bought a new battery for $37. Used plastic polish and removed most of the scratches. I'm going install an extra hard drive in place of the broken DVD Super drive. I'm happy with mine after doing a few things to it.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Recommended

Pros: Good price for a Macbook - but see cons

Cons: First one worked, but looked terrible and had a completely non-functional battery.

Second one looked fairly nice, but only worked about a half an hour - hard drive crash.

Other Thoughts: This was a disaster - bought as a Christmas gift for a child who really wanted a Mac. What a huge disappointment! I ended up replacing the hard drive myself to avoid another two or three tries to get one that worked and didn't look like it had been used in a prison library.

5 out of 5 eggsLike New Macbook!

Pros: This computer is 4 years old but it looks like i just went to the apple store and bought this new.

The portability of it is amazing, its the perfect size for being 13 inch coming from a 15 inch pc. and it's light compared to my other computer.

It has no chips in the case, little to no dirt on it, no missing keys, the screen is perfect no yellowing or small dark spots, It Actually Came With Leopard instead of tiger. it's a perfect macbook to start with.

it also came with bonuses:

A 160GB Hard drive
And A Super Drive Instead Of A Regular Combo Drive

Cons: There's No cons For Me

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Cheapest Intel Mac around
Bonus RAM: 2GB
Bonus HD: 120GB
Bonus DVD: SuperDrive

Cons: Mac OS-X 10.4 is a bit dated
Crack in palmrest

Other Thoughts: An update to my earlier post. I now have the RAM upgraded to 3GB and replaced the hard drive with a 60GB SSD.

I went to the Apple Store and bought Lion on a USB stick for $69. To upgrade normally, I'd have to upgrade to 10.6 first. The two upgrades combined would total over $60 so I decided to just go with the physical media.

The install went smoothly. I did need to download another 1.4GB of updates.

I used Meguiar's ScratchX 2.0 to polish the case. It wasn't horrible looking when I first got it but now it's even better. Still not new-looking but much closer.

Altogether (RAM, SSD, Lion) this machine cost about $650. About half the price of a current-gen MacBook.

4 out of 5 eggsCheapest Intel MacBook Option

Pros: Low price!
Core 2 Duo - decent performance

Came with 2GB of RAM and 120GB HDD!
Also had the Apple SuperDrive!
Can upgrade to 3GB of RAM (despite what Apple says)

Cons: Has the palmrest crack that seems to be genetic in this model.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my wife. She wanted to try a Mac to see what all the sensation was about. This refurb came in at about the same price of the new 2nd gen Core i3 Windows 7 systems I was considering for her. So I thought I'd just swallow the Apple Tax and give it a shot.

I ordered a 2GB and a 1GB SODIMM expecting this thing to come with two 512MB SODIMMs. It already had 2GB in it! That was a surprise. FYI: This MacBook can take 2GB SODIMMs and can even handle two of them but will only recognize something like 3.3GB of RAM. I wish I had just ordered two 2GB SODIMMs... Oh well.

I was also surprised to see a 120GB Seagate Momentus drive in it. I only paid for an 80GB. I'm swapping it out with a 60GB SSD anyhow, so this bonus didn't matter. Kind of like the RAM.

The DVD drive is also the SuperDrive! I got a much better equipped machine than I expected.

P.S. NewEgg also got it here superfast. I ordered on Friday, it was on my doorstep on Monday.
