You've never seen anything like it. Because there's never been anything like it.
The all-new MacBook Pro started with a blank slate - without the constraints of legacy technology. That gave you something radical, something entirely different. A notebook so thin, so light and so powerful. A notebook designed for the future, but ready to use today.
A Retina display with 5.1 million pixels. An all-flash architecture. Quad-core Intel Core i7 processors. In a design that’s just 0.71 inch thin and 4.46 pounds. It’s not just the most advanced notebook you've ever met, it’s the most advanced Mac you’ve ever met.
Fantastic Laptop, not so fantastic price
Pros: HDMI port, weight and Retina Display sold me on this laptop (that, and I needed XCode). Beautiful screen that is better that sets the standar for future laptops. When you are staring at a terminal screen and/OR an IDE all day, it really does make a difference. The boot is pretty darned fast.
Cons: The keyboard layout leaves some to be desired. The arrow keys are rather small. I'm also not a big fan of where the function keys are initially mapped to the OS features.
Other Thoughts: As others have noted, apps are still coming around to supporting the higher pixel density, that shouldn't be a reason to avoid this laptop. If anything, the price and the software should be your primary drivers. This has far and away been the highest quality laptop I've had. For the price, however, this laptop is definitely not for everyone.

Great machine but software is lagging behind the hardware
Pros: The MBP is light and relatively small for 15 inch. I've owned nothing but 13" computers in last couple years. Including a 13" MBP. The retina display is amazing. I don't do anything crazy, but occasionally edit photos. I paid for aperture with retina support and it is amazing! Text on safari and chrome canary are great. Mozilla and regular chrome not so great. SDD works great. I install windows 7 pro and score an average of 7.5. It was easy to install and drivers were provided by Apple. I paid 1880 plus tax from best buy for open item so cost was high but not sticker price. I would seriously second guess my purchase for 2200. Steep price in my opinion. The overall life before it becomes outdate should be fairly large.
Cons: Price. Lack of apps for the retina as mentioned by others. When you shell out 2k for a machine you seem to demand perfection. My hopes are that in time the perfection will come. Until then we are stuck with horrible blurred text and images in non-retina developed software.
Other Thoughts: Overall I very happy and hope to enjoy this computer. I've two macs and have had hardware failure on both. First one was a HDD failure, second was mobo. If this one has a failure it will be third strike. I would like to believe it was bad luck. Apple continuous to lead the way in innovation and also charge for their efforts. I own windows and mac machines and both have positives. My desktop is a windows 7 machine custom built with similar Windows Index Scores.

Nice but apps not ready
Pros: Same as what everyone says.
Cons: Apps are just not ready for the retina display. Retina supported apps looks great but ones that don't (majority of apps) looks pretty bad. Word 2011 strains my eyes and pretty disappointed adobe still doesn't support retina in photoshop. Everything is scaled.
Other Thoughts: Once the retina support becomes mainstream I really have no complaints. Its fast and by far the best built laptop I've owned. At the moment I still uses my 2011 Macbook pro 15 more often.

Pros: Excellent display
Cons: Not all apps are retina yet, but more are coming everyday. Once you use this screen, it is hard to go back to a regular screen.
Other Thoughts: This commuter is so fast. It boots up and shuts down fast. Applications open fast. My retina MacBook pro came with a Samsung 830 ssd. It has a new design that is lighter and runs much cooler than my 2010 MacBook pro.

Pros: Fun to have, looks nice... the SSD is a little faster than a hard drive
Cons: The novelty wears off in about a week. Now I really see no reason to have this resolution. Running stuff at anything below 2880x1800 looks jagged and blurry, and running anything at 2880x1800 runs too laggy to be usable.. I mean seriously! Team Fortress 2 is only playable at low detail, and even then it still lags and overheats.
Other Thoughts: Dont buy it, you will regret it when you realize how much you just payed for nothing more than extra pixels. The cost of materials for this thing is around $800. Apple charges $2200. Fair? No.

The evolution of the laptop
Pros: Display, Form factor, Trackpad, Keyboard, Build quality
Cons: App support for retina will be trickling in / working out the kinks of a new technology, Making due without some legacy technology and ports (not an issue for most these days)
Other Thoughts: I'm not a fanboy. I've owned many desktops and laptops over the years (mostly windows based). The Macbook Pro with Retina Display (or rMBP) might be the best PC I've had to date. It's a premium product that won't appeal to everyone, but it provides a pretty remarkable blend of form and function. There are plenty of thin and light notebooks around these days, but most of them sacrifice CPU cores and a dedicated GPU. This machine sacrifices neither, with a quad core CPU and a formidable (for a machine of it's size) GPU.
