5 out of 5 eggsGood so far

Pros: Nicely spec'd laptop with a great screen. This laptop does include a built-in mic, don't know what them other guys are talking about.

Cons: Battery power brick is making a hissing noise, but Gateway will replace it.
Don't like the keyboard, seems kinda small and Function key is left of the L. Ctrl button.

Other Thoughts: Great buy especially for $1300.
Will post an update after a month.

4 out of 5 eggsNo microphone

Pros: Fast, great screen, two drive bays, keypad.

Cons: NO MICROPHONE! Would give it 5 stars otherwise.

Other Thoughts: Why provide a Web cam and no mike? Vista experience rating of 5.1 is quite respectable for a notebook.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Well to begin mine came *absolutely perfect. So here is what Ive experienced.

-Beautiful 1920x1200 resolution with zero dead pixels (got a 1080 P movie just for it)
-Unheard of video quality 9800gts 1GB GDDR3
-320GB 7200rpm 16MBs of cache (supports two hard drives)
-P8400 2.27Ghz (separate from the GPU heat sink to maximize cooling efficiency)
-Wireless N max throughput of 270Mbps!

All in all it plays games without lag. Call of Duty world at war gets 30+ FPS on max everything including resolution. Guild wars get 200+fps. Far Cry2 gets 30+ with dx9 with dx10 its around 15.

Cons: *The latch is slightly off balance causing a clicking sound when I push the button to open the lid. The wireless button is loose but doesn't easily turn on or off just wiggles. That's it see not SO bad!

Other Thoughts: The media buttons I cant program to do what I want at this time. Either I missed the memo or it cant be done. Other than that this beast is worthy of your cash once newegg lowers it to the normal 1200$ I paid. If they don't, no need to worry Best buy will be your new best friend.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 4gb Ram, 17" 1920x1200 res, fast 320g 7200 Hd, great graphics card.

Cons: Like others said a fingerprint magnet but still nice design, could have used a little bigger processor, slightly heavy but not too bad! small size in right shift key!!

Other Thoughts: With the price it's listed at you can't find a better bang for your buck! Didn't notice any screen blotch, and Vista has ran like a pro so far.... Newegg shipped it out the same day i bought it and was here in 3!!! Thanks newegg you rock!!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 4GB ram
1920x1200 resolution
2nd hard drive slot
Good signal strength with wireless
Can't beat the price.

Cons: Speakers are pretty awful.

Other Thoughts: This is a desktop replacement for me, used for development. Current usage -

IIS 7 with about 10 sites running, a mix of, Ektron and Sitecore sites.

Sql Server 2008 with about 20 databases attached.

Lot's of VS 2008 work, plus Photoshop.

I love this thing. I thrash it with 65 hour workweeks, and 200 miles of bike commuting with it in my messenger bag. It handles it all.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop for the price

Pros: Great Screen. Yes, it is glossy, but not overbearing like some glossy screens. Very sharp. A lot of power for such a great price. 5.6 average on the Vista performance test and this is out of 5.9.

Cons: Speakers are so so. About average for a laptop, but there are better machines out there if you want loud speakers.

Other Thoughts: This is a beast, but I love it. I got it when it was $1149 and it was a steal. Super fast, great screen and just a great laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat performer and a fantastic value.

Pros: - WUXGA - 1920x1200 display
Games like Titan Quest, Sacred 2, Warcraft III, DOOM 3, etc. run flawlessly.
- 4-GB of RAM
- 320-GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
- NVIDIA 9800M GTS with 1-GB dedicated DDR3 video memory.
- Great value for the money.

Cons: - It's a fingerprint magnet. I wish laptop manufacturers would get away from these glossy surfaces.
- The USB port on the right side is too close to where the mouse is. This can be handled by getting a mouse with a very small USB receiver which would stay out of the way.

Other Thoughts: I am so pleased that I purchased this laptop. The screen is beautiful. I love the resolution (WUXGA - 1920x1200).

While playing games it can get warm. It is not an issue as long as there is adequate airspace below the laptop (where the air intake vents are). I have not had any heat related problems.

For regular usage, battery life has been good. I get almost four hours of photo editing and wireless web browsing. I have not tested battery life while gaming. I would expect shorter battery life under heavy gaming.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing but not this exact model but the P-7805.

Pros: Solid graphics card, Full number pad, 17" display, very nice dvd and volume controls. Even with 2 yes 2 fans in this laptop it runs EXTREMELY quiet. The battery life is good too for a gaming laptop I get 3 hours with the battery set on high proformance. I think its about 2.5 hours when I am gaming.

Cons: I guess it has Vista home premium but after SP1 I really dont mind vista. Any home edition has a couple of features missing that some people need for business apps.

Doesn't have a blueray drive but I knew that going into this.

Last thing the dvd drive has to be opened and closed level or slightly pushed down or it will not close. I know that sounds dumb but they put this orange strip on the tray door(it also goes around the whole computer) and if the drive is lifted at all this strip gets caught on the case and doesn't close.

Last thing its kind of on the big side.

Other Thoughts: I have had it for a week now and I really have ZERO complaints other than the drive door but thats simple to avoid.

Having had this a week I have gotten more compliments on how this laptop looks than I can count. I was not really worried about looks but it is pretty sexy now that I think about it :P.

It does not fit in some 17" bags. I did find this bag made by Targus fits it with room to spare at the top and its a pretty nice bag.
I bought my laptop and bag at best buy and not to talk bad about newegg because I love them but it was a newer laptop and it was cheaper at best buy. Last thing dont post the word best buy in a link or Newegg stops you lol.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: (My review refers to the essentially identical P-7811FX)

I bought this notebook with a little trepidation. A high-end laptop from Gateway??? Well, rest easy. All my concerns were laid to rest. After several months, I am very happy: it runs fast and cool, the screen is better than I expected, the keyboard is great, the build quality is really very good, and nothing has become a concern.

Cons: This may not matter to you: it has an HDMI port, not DVI; but I got a HDMI-DVI converter.

Otherwise; I am right-handed, and many of the ports (audio, LAN, eSATA, HDMI) are on the right so some cable management is necessary.

The onboard sound is very "noisy". Whenever the HDD is active, tons of static comes through in the audio. Headphones mask this some due to their higher impedance but good speakers really bring it out. Considering investing in a Creative ExpressCard sound card. Tried a USB sound card, no improvement.

Not a con of this laptop really, but it comes with 4GB DDR3, and as yet upgrading to 8GB is impossible or expensive... I will keep waiting for 4GB DDR3 modules.

Other Thoughts: I don't game much; I needed a beefy laptop for work. I upgraded it with dual hard drives (BTW easiest laptop ever to upgrade - dual bays side by side, they even include the mounting frame for HDD2 unlike some brands *cough* Asus) and RAID0 (you may need to upgrade the BIOS to enable RAID0). Now I run Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008, and several VMs under VMWare Workstation - no sweat, this laptop is a champ. Also recommended it to a family member for entry-level Photoshop etc., she loves it.
