1 out of 5 eggsThird class quality and no newegg support

Pros: I purchased this laptop and within a month, it started to shutdown on its own. I requested for an RMA and sent it back, but newegg did not accept it and said it had no problem. This laptop is absolutely a junk. I am still having problems with it and it shuts down all the time. I was not even asking for a refund but requested to at least exchange. Newegg is good for low priced junk items only.

Cons: Junk

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Haven't seen any.

Cons: Windows 8 does not belong on this computer for starters. This computer would have been better with windows 7. Gateway computers in my opinion are worthless. I plan to buy a windows 7 operating system and install it on this computer and wipe out all the gateway stuff. If this computer after windows 7 is installed is still slow into the garbage it goes. What a waste on money.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks for a simple parent

Pros: nice sized screen, decent keyboard, runs things well enough. Accepted a reimage of windows 7 just fine. Drivers installed fine.

Cons: Slower than similarly priced laptops. comes with windows 8. Skype notes that the laptop can't really handle HD camera streaming. Not a huge deal.

Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop for my dad for $300. I wasn't expecting miracles. We threw a 64gb SSD into the laptop since my dad doesn't really NEED space. It added speed to the boot time and Chrome opens up quickly. That's all my dad needs.
He browses and emails. perfectly fine laptop for that.

1 out of 5 eggsBad from the start

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Like everyone else is saying, this product was bad from the start. I started getting blue screen error messages from week 2. Then, the wifi stopped working. Requested an RMA, they refused to replace it,non the grounds that it is not defective. Apparently they restored it to factory settings. This is obviously a temporary fix and I could have done that myself. Didnt need the laptop gone for 2 weeks to get a factory settings temp fix. I am so disappointed I could burst into tears right now. Disappointed in new egg. As a grad student the last thing i needed was my laptop gone for 2 weeks. I know this one will be giving me problems again. Lessson learned. Never shopping here again. Should have stuck with the competitors like I always do.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Value so far

Pros: Excellent price (I purchased it on sale for $300). I plan to use it for simple things like word processing, web browsing, watching videos, and some light (old school) gaming. For these purposes it has performed admirably. Looks rather slick when closed. It has an optical drive, unlike some of the similar priced units I looked at - convenient if I need to load any older software I have on disc.

Cons: The keyboard layout takes some getting used to. Small arrow keys. The Touchpad is very sensitive, and I keep clicking randomly around the screen by accident - the Touchpad can be disabled and tweaked however.

By default the keyboard function keys (F1-12) are only only accessible by holding down the (fn) key - pressing FN+f2 to rename something is a pain, but this isn't a huge con because it can be switched in the bios.

There are some truly bizarre macro keys on this - why would I want a dedicated key for social networks? Also, next to the arrow keys on either side of the up arrow are two keys that print money signs by default - very easy to hit by accident, owing to the small size of the arrow keys and I don't understand their purpose.

Other Thoughts: Like many others, I don't like Windows 8, but this isn't an OS review. Probably obvious, but it is worth noting that this is not a touchscreen laptop, which makes the Windows 8 start screen even more extraneous .

I should comment about the size and weight, if only to say I don't have much of a basis of comparison, since this replaced a 12 year old dell laptop which weighed around 9 pounds - this unit is certainly light and thin by contrast.

Unlike other users here, my laptop worked perfectly out of the box, no hardware issues whatsoever! I have only had this for less than a month, so I cannot speak for the longevity, and it also seems to be out of stock now, but I am satisfied with this purchase overall and would recommend it as long as you aren't looking for a desktop replacement.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: Price, Long Battery Life, Quiet, Runs cool(60c at 100%load)

Cons: Needs a better HDD,CPU is clocked a little slow , no overclocking so far

Other Thoughts: I have and am still using this thing for demanding programs such as Autodesk Inventor and 3DS Max, It has a little lag but well above useable. The APU was designed for HD Videos along that line, not games. Plays starcraft II ok, but big battles lag a lot. Minecraft plays great on fancy settings, make sure to keep HDD Defragged, I would suggest a better HDD to go with this.

Pros: quiet, cheap, nice screen and function keys

Cons: BSoD memory errors, trying to get an RMA, crossing my fingers on getting a replacement since they are sold out.

2 out of 5 eggsDecent computer while it worked

Pros: The specs are pretty good (for average use). While the wifi worked, the speed was impressive. Could've been 3-4 eggs.

Cons: Ether it's the OS, or the computer, everything is rather slow (slower than expected anyways).

Other Thoughts: The wifi worked for about a week, then suddenly stopped working. Sees the router just fine, but "can't connect to this network" when supplied the key. Worked with Gateway tech support over four sessions at Level 1 and Level 2, tried many ways in vain. Tried Ubuntu, worked a couple of times, then stopped working too. Finally gave up, and requested an RMA. Cross my fingers that the replacement will be okay!
