Good Deal...
- Pros: The price paid for what you get is actually decent! This laptop has a good onboard graphics for the price! It got a decent 3000 marks on 3D mark 03, while it won’t be playing the latest games at high frame rates those just a few years old shouldn’t be a problem. Plenty of RAM 2GB, Visa Premium preinstalled, 250GB Hard Disk + a dual layer DVD burner. Screen is decent, slightly reflective but bright crisp and very clear. Appeared in new condition minus one minor nick. For the average user this is an excellent deal for the power user it's ok, for the gamer.. you should know better unless you like the odd game and don't mind it being a few years old.
- Cons: Keeping in mind it is re-certified!... It had sticky finger prints! Someone had been munching on something and didn’t clean it or was returned and not cleaned! It did have a very minor nick of course on the silver section so it’s very easy to spot it. It didn’t come with anything other than the battery and power pack. No recovery disc! You can make a recovery disc using the installed software but it froze and or crashed on my machine. A call to Compaq and they sent out a recovery disc by mail free of charge! Usual bloatware installed, Vista felt very sluggish on this, almost slower than my nettop with Win7!
Windows performance on this machine isn't as good as I'd expect from a Dual Core CPU then again look at the price? How can you afford to say no if you just want to send some emails, read the news, surf the web, get on messenger, play an odd game?
- Other Thoughts: The processor feels very underpowered.. then again my desktop has a quad core Q9400 overclocked with 4GB at it’s disposal. I removed Vista as it really was too sluggish for my liking and installed Windows 7. There is some improvement with Windows 7 but not a lot. Seems as if the processor is weak or it’s just not being fed enough information fast enough. I’ll carry out some benchmarks and pinpoint it.

Good laptop
- Pros: The laptop performs as expected
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop for my Father who is not the most tech savy, but he has found it easy to use. The battery life is more then enough for his needs and so far there are no complaints.
- Pros: Great product
- Cons: None
Fantastic Bargain
- Pros: Graphics card runs WoW well, 25 fps in Dalaran on full settings (- shadows). Drops in fps for areas of long view distances at that high of settings but manageable and impressive for a low end card.
This has an atheros wireless, making it perfect for linux. Everything works perfectly under arch linux, only needs a pci=msi line on kernel for suspend to work.
Runs perfectly on Windows 7 as well.
I couldn't even tell this was refurbished except for the awesome price.
Battery life is pretty good, I'm about to get about 3 hours out of it on power saving mode, roughly an hour and a half while playing games.
- Cons: Vista. Exhaust port is on bottom which makes it get hot if you use it on non-solid surfaces.
- Other Thoughts: Free upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 (32-bit only) is included. Went ahead and put Windows 7 RC on it, now that Windows 7 retail is out I'll put that on.
This is nice for casual gaming, say if you have desktop problems, lan party, going to friends house, etc.
