2 out of 5 eggsEhhh...

Pros: Cheap purchase price. Full-size keyboard. Sound is very muted, so start-ups or warning sounds during meetings won't be too much of an embarrasing oversight.

Cons: Died after a couple weeks of use. Power light would come on, nothing on screen, no way to diagnose, voo-doo steps from customer service didn't make sense (and also didn't work). Had to pay shipping to fix what shouldn't have broke.

Couldn't get WinXP Pro to install over Vista (every attempt generated Blue Screen of Death).

Mousepad area is too "grippy" -- fingers don't slide easily.

Housing has a bit too much "flex" (concerned that the screen will bend & break too easily). Invasive/annoying pre-loaded software features.

Screen doesn't tilt back very far (I'm 5'8", and using it while traveling requires me to occasionally tilt the laptop back to best see the screen unless I can get roomy legroom and put it further in front of me.

You'll need headphones if you want a quality music-listening experience.

Other Thoughts: If it worked (or in the future WORKS) for the price, it wouldn't be a bad machine. But don't expect much, or you'll be disappointed. I went in with low expectations, and they failed to be met.

5 out of 5 eggsBig bang for the bucks

Pros: I does everything a low end laptop should do and much, much more. I did put a partition in the hard drive isolating the OS from the info just in case but have had zero issues to date. Rock solid!

Cons: Windows 7 Professional would have been nice so that I could have installed virtual XP for a couple older programs I use on occasion but for the price I guess I can upgrade if I get too sentimental.

3 out of 5 eggsgood price, but you pay in other ways

Pros: *Full size
*nice display
*price (well, sort of...)

Cons: *take note that this is a 64 bit system!
*while I haven't had wireless access problems like others have had, it consistently has issues with finding/recognizing the CD/DVD slot

Other Thoughts: Like other reviewers, I also ordered this machine for the price after rebate. After several months use, I find that my trial software is all expiring (for example MS Office), and my old discs are 32 bit and won't work, and other software I want to add doesn't work on Windows 7 64 bit. After paying for upgrades (if I end up doing it), it was no deal...

1 out of 5 eggsAWFUL!!

Pros: Numeric keypad

Cons: Everything else! (Especially being that it is an HP product..)

Other Thoughts: I bought this computer May 24. It is now August 7th, and I just received it back from HP for the 2nd time yesterday after having to send it in for service. The wifi is ridiculous, I can't keep it connected for beans. Also, it lags like CRAZY after more than half an hour of doing ANYTHING. This last service, the technicians sent it back without doing any repairs even, and low and behold, it is still having the same issues. I will DEFINITELY never buy an HP product again, computer, printer, or even paper. Since I bought this laptop I have been using my husbands computer just as much as I did before, because it's unusable most of the time for anything other than checking my email pretty much, and even then, it still won't do that sometimes. Overall? Don't do it!

4 out of 5 eggsNicer than I expected

Pros: Great bright display, Keyboard with number pad, Light weight, Enough hard drive storage for "average" user, Quick booting time. Internal wireless antenna stronger than average (my experience),

Cons: Memory is good for most users (except high demand video editing and gamers). You can step up the memory amounts but you must remove currently install cards to add greater those amounts.

Other Thoughts: The touch-pad is the same metal surface as the notebook case. At first it was a little "sticky" feeling until I adjusted to the right pressure and worked with it. Now I do not give it any thought.
I got this on a special price of the low 300's in April 2010 which is more like a Netbook price for a full use Notebook size. At the regular price of mid 400's I would look towards a faster processor and more memory. At my price I would not change anything.

4 out of 5 eggsAn alright laptop

Pros: Overall, a nice laptop. I worried at first that my XP applications might not work with Win7, but 9 out of 10 I'm very happy. I bought this computer as a replacement for my 2005 Gateway notebook.

I'll be using this one for storm chasing and running radar & satellite apps, thus I needed something light and fast. It's relatively light for it's size, which I'm happy about; and running programs (non-gaming)'s pretty fast. Takes about a minute to boot from cold start and less than 20 seconds from hibernation. The monitor is very clean and crisp in quality and I love the touchpad! As for sound, it's a basic laptop'll need headphones for picking up the best results. Electrical cord is a straight-style plug, thus when it gets pulled on it comes straight out from the port...which is a good.

*Boot-up time is quick
*CPU speed is relatively fast (not a quad-core)
*Comes with ATI Mobility Radeon HD graphic
*Runs my favorite weather forecasti

Cons: Several things here.

*64-bit OS
*Windows 7
*Numeric keypad/screen size
*AMD processor
*Extremely polished lid...leaves fingerprints!

Okay, I basically prefer an Intel processor over AMD, thus not really that big of a deal. However, the screen size (and room for a numeric keypad) is a little too's nearly the size of a 17" wide-screen. Windows 7 64-bit can be a pain sometimes, especially when trying to run older programs and trying to find drivers for everything. Why wasn't it a smooth transition from XP, I'll never know. I tried to wipe the HDD and install XP Pro, but of course it gave me the blue screen and wouldn't allow it...thus I guess I'm stuck with Win7. Finally, it leaves bad fingerprints on the front of the lid due to the high-gloss finish. Have not test battery life yet, been keeping it on the plug since I got it to help extend the battery's overall life.

Those really are the only concerns...nothing major as this is a really nice laptop for the pr

Other Thoughts: I suppose it's time for the transition to Win7, so this computer will be how I learn that OS. If your looking for a smaller laptop, then don't buy this one because it is really wide...too wide for my tastes. And if you have a bunch of XP-dependent programs this isn't the computer for you...find one that comes with XP or one that will allow you to revert back to XP from Vista or Win7.

This would be a great starter computer for anyone and would make a great around-the-house comp.

3 out of 5 eggsNot the best notebook on the market

Pros: Nice and light. The price was right for me because I wanted a notebook from daughter to play on.

Cons: The battery life is very poor. The speed of the machine is not what I expected, it is slow.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Nice Laptop

Pros: Bought this laptop for my wife for mother's day/birthday! She loves it! Having a full keyboard with number pad is great! The wide screen is especially nice! The disk burner works great for CDs and DVDs. The hardware configuration is adequate for general computering. Windows 7 has been easy to use!

Basic setup of the computer was a breeze!

Cons: Requires making a Recovery disk (took 3 DVDs). Documentation isn't very good, but HP Helper and trial and error will have you setup. There's about a two day learning curve for personalizing the computer.

No documentation on the pre-installed, need to activate, software. Everything needs to be activated...some expense might be required, i.e., buying a game.

Great computer if you know how to fix it's software shortcomings.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't expect much -return candidate

Pros: Price. Other than that, none...

Cons: Really underpowered. I purchased this to simply replace a 2 year old Compaq laptop that died recently. My experience of Compaq laptops has been worse each time - this is my 3rd -and this is the worst machine of the three.

All I wanted was a machine that could stream a video from my local network while browsing the web doing email, etc. My work takes place on another machine. This laptop is unable to do even that simple task. While writing this review I get audio dropouts from MythTV Player in Windows 7 while panning this web page up and down. All drivers are up to date.

Certainly don't buy this for a kid going to school. I cannot even watch a YouTube video without audio dropouts.

Other Thoughts: I'll probably call HP Tech support to see if they have any solutions but it's just not working like a machine I'm likely to want to do even simple work on.
