Decent laptop, Great price.
- Pros: Great laptop for the price! Excellent battery life (almost 4 hours of web browsing / music / video using wireless and a cooling pad) reliable brand, nice screen, comes with everything set up already, everything I expected.
- Cons: The speakers are very quiet, the screen picks up fingerprints extremely easily, comes with vista home 32 bit ( a total waste of it's 64 bit architecture ), no s-video out, not compatible with xp, comes with a huge amount of toshiba bloatware installed.
- Other Thoughts: I wish the lineout/headphones weren't on the front. All in all, I have no major gripes.. the price was right and it works great. Perfect machine for students if you don't care much about gaming and don't want to pay a grand+. I nuked and paved vista home immediately and installed Vista Ultimate 64.
Great System for the price point
- Pros: This is a great computer. Functions well does everything you could ask from a $600 laptop.
Runs music software such as Reason or Ableton live acceptably, GIS runs ok. its got everything you need for run of the mill and slightly advanced usage. The toshiba junk programs are easy to remove, some are actually useful, like the camera assistant. I have had to use toshiba support and they are good enough. Service providers are Circuit City and Best Buy so you won't have to send in to newegg if you need it fixed.
I like the speakers, i viewed it as a perk, but they are good, not particularly loud, but good!
One of my favorite things about this computer is the touch pad. I hate touchpads and planned on getting a wireless mouse, but this one is different. Its textured instead of smooth, which helps the brain know what its doing and the response calibration is perfect! So I have not actually gotten a mouse.
built in webcam is great.
I love this machine.
- Cons: My biggest complaint with the system is how terribly it performs when trying to play a game. I'm not just talking about the latest and greatest. I have not found a game this thing CAN play. I've gone as far back as 1999 to find a game that would work. The frame rate and resolution is so bad you CANNOT PLAY GAMES...this, however, may be a vista problem. I have yet to partition and load xp, but most folks I talk to agree that once I do that I will be able to play. This IS NOT A GAMING MACHINE. You will likely be able to play a game if you put xp on, but don't buy this if your a gamer.
The cd/dvd burning software is useless. Ergonomics is notably bad, ex. power cord next to dvd to if your plugged in chances are the chord will prevent the trey from opening.
Finally the DVD-R is sub par. It burns fast, but reads ssllloooww. Which is strange. HL is an off brand and that's what you get.
Finally I too am having the explorer crashing problem, but that's gunna most likely be a vista pro
- Other Thoughts: As far as computers in the $550-650 range I thought this was the best choice, now that I own it...I still think its the best choice. Enjoy!

- Pros: Very nice, complete, and easy to use. $$ was right, free shipping. Loads of nice qualities. No problems that I am aware of. Secondy Toshiba laptop I bought, great products thus far. Bought for daughter and school, she loves it. Dad made browny points!!!
- Cons: I can not think of anything at this time. Battery life is a little short.
- Other Thoughts: Extra batteries can be purchase on Newegg, another plus.
Good Value Sub Par Display
- Pros: Everything works like it should.
I especially like the rotary volume knob on the front. This knob is not a hardware volume control but adjusts the software volume in any foreground application.
- Cons: 32 bit OS and TONS of crapware to uninstall.
The screen has a rather limited viewing angle especially on the vertical axis. My wife is not bothered by this, However I'm an artist and I can't find a viewing spot where I don't notice a darkening of the image on either the top or the bottom of the screen.
- Other Thoughts: Installed Vista 64 and the machine became much more responsive.
Toshiba laptop
- Pros: Very pleased with both the laptop and the means in which it was purchased and shipped by newegg. Very stylish design, extremely quiet and the laptop is exceeding my expectations. I felt I got my monies worth and recommend this unit to anyone in the market for a mid-range laptop.
- Cons: So far I have no negative experiences with my Toshiba laptop.
