- Pros: I had 3 self-built high-ed PCs that were a few years old, and simply were taking up too much space. I wanted a kick a__ laptop as a worthy replacement, and this laptop more than fills the bill. I had some reservations about the 2.0 frequency of the quad core cpu, but I am amazed at how hard it is to max out this wonderful little processor. I'm burning DVDs, downloading files and playing UT4 at max resolution, all at the same time, with cpu capacity and video memory to spare. I've been buying Toshibas for 10 years for scholarship winners at the college where I work, and have never heard of a problem from any of the students. At $2,499, this sucker is a bargain, IMHO. Oh yeah, did I mention it looks very cool, is very sturdy, and the soundsystem kicks mucho posterior.
- Cons: Heavy, low battery life, and the dual 32 and 64 bit OS takes up 80% of the solid state drive when delivered. The first thing you should do is run the Toshiba recovery disc utility, for which you will need 5 blank DVDs. Then, download the Windows 7 Release Candidate (not the Beta), and burn the ISO onto a DVD, then delete the partitions on the primary drive and run a clean install of 32-bit Windows 7 RC. 7 picks up and installs the network controllers automatically, so you can get right online and install the rest of the software you will need from Toshiba, NVIDIA, etc. NVIDIA even has a new driver for the dual video cards for Windows 7....gotta love that! You'll need to install a few plug ins and some software may be a bit buggy with 7, but you will have a ton more hard drive space to work with, and quite frankly, 7 is far superior to Vista, even in its early stages.
- Other Thoughts: I am now officically a desktop-to-laptop covert. Thanks Toshiba!!
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that New Egg delivered this brand spanking new, perfectly-operating laptop to me in less than 24 hours, for less than 99% of other sites I looked at. If they keep this up, I'm a loyal New Egger for life. :-)
Great laptop!
- Pros: 64bit vista, good video card, very solid cpu, plenty of ram.
- Cons: CPU could be faster.
- Other Thoughts: Better than most core 2 duos, runs games a very high levels, problem free so far.
