Good Laptop w/ XP!
- Pros: Sturdy well made laptop w/ plenty of expansion options. Esata is a plus, as is the XP "downgrade" DVD provided. 1GB of RAM comes in the form of a single stick instead of a pair of 512's, so adding a 2GB module is very inexpensive. 2 year warranty!
- Cons: You do not get a Vista recovery DVD, you must make your own with a simple to use program provided by Toshiba. Only the XP DVD is supplied, but XP is the whole reason I chose this laptop. If you wish to make the Vista recovery DVD's, be sure to do so before installing the XP DVD, because it erases the Vista recovery partition and replaces it with an XP recovery partion instead.
Some bloatware to remove as with most new computers. Toshiba has a bunch of proprietary non-essential programs that run and hog up resources. MSCONFIG is the easiest way to turn them off for the average user, and is not permanent if you turn off something you found useful.
- Other Thoughts: 1GB is not enough for Vista, but you knew that before buying this machine. XP runs OK on 1GB for those on a budget.
