The Acer Aspire AS7720 -6536 packs a powerful punch in a cost effective format. This 17" WXGA+ notebook is powered by a Core 2 Duo Processor running at 2.0GHz. It comes with 2GB of DDR2 667 memory to easily handle the Windows Vista Home Premium operating system. The screen is driven by the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS GPU with a dedicated 256MB of memory.
Acer has installed a 250GB hard drive. Loading software or making backups is easy with the integrated DVD Super-Multi drive. You can plug in extra storage to one of the 4 USB ports, or transfer data directly by inserting a memory card into the 5-in-1 card reader. There is an ExpressCard slot to round things out for add ons.
Uuse the slot to add connectivity if the built in 802.11a/b/g wireless and Gigabit Ethernet aren't enough. There's also a modem jack on the back panel in case you need to (gasp!) dial in. No matter how you connect, the AS7720-6536 can easily handle your productivity and entertainment needs.

Just the tool I needed...
- Pros: Nice big screen allows me to develop apps without hooking up an external monitor. Plan on using it for a portable recording studio as well. Very fast with Visual Studio 2008, which is a hog....Successfully dual booted Vista and XP. Found all of the XP drivers that I needed to run XP Pro on the net....I also boosted the ram to the max 4 gigs..I see Fedora Linux 9 in it's future and a Solid State Boot Disk....
- Cons: No installation CD's or DVD's. Will not make me a rockstar...
- Other Thoughts: It is not documented, but this thing will hold two SATA hard drives. After you set it up with the default Vista install, burn a restore DVD because you will need it if you plan on a dual boot system.
I DIG THIS RIG, but....
- Pros: Games like a champ ( Americas Army, COD4, BF1942,Crysis, etc..),
After you stick 4 gigs of ram in it, it's a speedster. I'm new to Vista and it's pretty much kept itself updated. However, both of those other guys are right: If you wanna upgrade hard drives and you didn't call Acer within 90 days, you just lost your OS.
- Cons: The keyboard glitch is reminiscent of windows 95. Ocassionally, it just sorta lags for just enough time to distract you and then the last 5 characters you typed will pop up. Maybe a different OS would stop it???
The battery is fine unless you use any program (including tetris) at all, then the time on it drops rapidly, and I think the burner was stolen out of Fred Flinstones PC. For the money, I would buy it again and it's been 6 weeks for me now (note to self: call Acer for recovery disks). That other guy is right too: When I upgraded the RAM, I was quite frightened I was gonna bust the cover. If ya do it, have patience.
- Other Thoughts: The other guy was incorrect in saying that you can replace this video card. Also, it's just plain rude to put as much bloatware on a guys new laptop as Acer did. It took me a long time to get rid of it all.
If you can get the coupon and have 650 bucks, I really doubt you'll beat this deal.

First Laptop, No Regrets
- Pros: At the time of buy, very good price for the specs provided. Was shopping around for quite a while, and Acer consistently seemed to come up the cheapest for the best hardware. No trouble setting it up, and 3 months strong no problems. Battery life seems pretty solid, though a mixture of high settings/operations (CD Drives take the most in my experience) Will drain it faster.
Believe it or not, This laptop has an actual subwoofer on the bottom of it. I didn't realize this till I bought it and was reading the manual. My mouth literally dropped. Sound distorts like all laptops do at high volumes, but can reach higher levels than most (Compared to the 20 other laptops in the geek corner of my college) and has a nice little thump for electronic music.
- Cons: Few personal things that bugged me slightly. The screen seems to stay staticy, so it attracts dust quite a bit, so I often find myself wiping it off. The audio ports would be more pleasant off to the side instead of right in front (Not a big deal). It does come with quite a bit of software installed, but didn't bother me too much, I just uninstalled it as I got used to the feel of Vista and the laptop.
- Other Thoughts: Originally was going to buy a standard nothing special 15.4" Laptop, but got a deal to make this one as cheap as the other one I was looking at. Same price, much better hardware so I ended up with the largest laptop in the Geek Corner at campus. It is larger, it is bulkier, and you may need a larger laptop case than most.
I do a myriad of strange things, Results: The modem is Data/Fax, and not a voice, so is incapable of using as a phoneline. I was an idiot, misread specs and thought it had 1 2GB stick. upgraded and ended up with 1 1GB and 1 2GB stick in my laptop. Solely my own foolishness. The bottom of the case has no trick other then a few Obvious screws, and a LOT of pulling. Scared the daylights out of me. There does seem to be room for another harddrive in the laptop, though I'm scared of what that will put the weight up to. I am thinking of making a dualboot XP/Vista later on to benchmark and compare. If you have any other questions (I like odd stuff) My IM's are my nick
Excellent Laptop for LINUX Users
- Pros: I purchased this laptop for business. I removed VISTA and replaced it with LINUX openSUSE 11.0. It was easy to install and I didn't have to search for drivers, everything worked great including the webcam, mic and wireless. I am also able to use all the desktop special effects that LINUX has to offer and now have the security of LINUX. I highly recommend this laptop and Newegg has been great.
- Cons: NONE
- Other Thoughts: NONE
Reload w/XP Driver Issues
- Pros: Just runs better on XP -- Vista just isn't worth in on an NB!
- Cons: No drivers to be found on Acer for Video or WLAN!!!!!
- Other Thoughts: Acer needs to update there WEB site with Drivers!!!!
