Highly Worthy Machine
- Pros: Full size keyboard that's made of sleek plastic material (very comfortable finger contact). Comes max 4gb ram with 512mb 9600gs can run alot of games on high graphics and the full size keyboard makes MMORPG ideal. Also specialized in the media/entertainment aspect with high quality sound, it's dobly 5.1, you can hear it's much better sound than average notebook plus useful built-in webcam with mic next to it. Have palm rest. Overall layout is also appealing, showing sophistication and performance capability yet it's only ~$800 totally worth the dough!
- Cons: Support for this specific model from Acer website isnt great. Didn't come with ANY CD, no drivers / reinstallation CD, Acer website do not provide driver download however through the recovery program you can burn a set of reinstallation and drivers / applications on DVD (4 blank DVDs in total) in windows so it's not that big of a deal but it's imperative that you do create those CDs! Native resolution is only 1366x768, this GPU can easily handle greater resolutions so its a bit of waste of this art piece. The width of this notebook is relatively longer than average, which could be unplesant cause it makes it look more square flat and physically occupies more desk area. Indeed it's heavy which hinders mobility, not too bad but it's a trade off of mobility for great performance.
- Other Thoughts: This notebook defintely worth the hardware and performance price. I highly recommend this notebook to college students, home users, and people who dont care about size/mobility in general. Given this low price, I can't think of any reason to not buy this unless you emphasizes absolutely on mobility.
Great Multimedia Laptop
- Pros: Fast - Vista actually runs well on this system
Very good GPU for the price - games are pretty and fluid
Nice screen, keyboard, speakers
No unnecessary/undesired features
Runs cool and quiet even when playing games
Relatively little crapware
Backup software looks usable at first glance
Everything works
Games and Second Life run smoothly with reasonably high settings
Good looking design
Appropriate (if not extremely high) resolution for the screen - good color
- Cons: Takes some elbow grease to get it into my Targus laptop bag
Need to uninstall some promo software (McAffee)
No recovery discs provided and creating recovery DVDs (3) takes a long time
NVIDIA GPU drivers need to be obtained from Acer - NVIDIA does not supply laptop drivers
No indication that Acer provides frequent driver updates
No FireWire Port
- Other Thoughts: I don't really see how a better system could be built for $800. Being an AMD fanboi, I almost bought the Asus 2.2 Turion Ultra with ATI 3650, but saw that both the 2.0 Core 2 Duo T5800 and the Geforce 9600m GS were about 5-6% faster. Add the extra $50 (and no free shipping) and this system overcame my brand loyalty. I think I made the right choice - I have not been this happy with an electronics purchase in a long time. Hopefully everything will keep running as well as it has been for the past 24 hours.

This laptop is very impressive. Without knowing the price, I would think its price to be much more due to its performance, sound and build quality. The T5800 cpu is not a Penryn (or Nehalem), but its still fast.

Very satisfied!
- Pros: Hardware is stellar, lots of ram, big hard drive, GREAT dedicated video card. gorgeous screen, bluetooth, eSATA/USB combo plug, HDMI out! What MORE could you ask for?
- Cons: Competing multimedia software, Windows MCE and ACER Media Arcade makes setting up a home media system on it complicated. Bloatware. But none of these bring my ratings down
- Other Thoughts: As always NEWEGG was awesome, put the unit in my shopping cart on Monday, processed the order on Wed, not seeing the price went up by $50, then back down on Thursday, called NewEgg and they price matched the date I put it in my cart! This is WHY I LOVE THIS COMPANY!
Wow, nice laptop !
- Pros: Everything. Very well designed computer. Looks nice with the Acer logo backlit by the monitor lights. Keyboard and touchpad feel really nice. I am very impressed with the pressure sensitive volume controls and various other buttons along the top of the keyboard.
Considering the price range I am stunned at how nice this unit is now that we have it.
- Cons: no blu-ray player or fingerprint reader.
- Other Thoughts: It was a minor hassle to have to create my "backup" DVDs instead of receiving Windows disks from the manufacturer but the backup utility provided is very nice and easy to use. All things considered though I think I'd rather have it as-is with the backup utility included than to forfeit the utility and get Windoze disks instead...
Worth the price
- Pros: About 6 weeks now. This one has done everything I have asked of it. I wouldn't call it a gaming laptop but it will do just about anything else.
- Cons: I have no idea why acer insists on these screwy hard drive partitions. 4 partitions.
- Other Thoughts: Some bloat software. Partitions are a pain but can be fixed using vista. I've been happy with this one so far.
