3 out of 5 eggsNo Windows Installation Disc

Pros: Newegg shipped the laptop in very timely fashion, it arrived within the guaranteed number of days. The laptop performs very well thus far. I have only played a few older games and each have performed very well; this isn't the computer you should be getting if you simply want it to play the most recent, high end games.

Cons: Lots of bloatware....even worse, it doesn't come with a Windows installation disc. The laptop has backup and recovery software pre-loaded. However, this is no substitute for a clean Windows installation disc. I haven't seen this detail listed anywhere on Newegg and was very disappointed to find that Acer ships the product with no installation disc.

5 out of 5 eggsVery pleased. Great laptop, great Newegg price.

Pros: Value! Runs everything I've loaded so far at high quality with no problems. Fast wireless. Comfortable keyboard. Lots of ports make it versatile. Sounds great, 5.1 compatible audio out so it works nicely with my old desktop surround system. Nice looking screen, nice looking machine in general.

Cons: Few and far between. No Bluetooth. No Blu Ray (at this price, no surprise). The case LOVES fingerprints. You either have to not care at all or carry a polishing cloth around at all times. Scroll doesn't work on the mouse pad (who cares, right?). This sucker is HEAVY. I'm constantly worried it's going to slip out of my grip when I take it out of it's bag. Sound is wonderful but it could be just a little louder. Small hard drive. All of these are strictly nit-picking but I had to come up with something.

Other Thoughts: Read lots of other reviews complaining about the bloatware. No more or less here than on any new machine as far as I can tell. Why did they split the hard space over two drives? Has C & D drives with approx 109 GB working space each. I love this machine!!

5 out of 5 eggsBuy this while its still on sale!

Pros: I have been looking for a good, well rounded laptop for some time and I am an experienced bargain hunter. That being said this is the best laptop I have owned. If you are in the market for a laptop I highly suggest this one and here is why.
-FREE Windows 7 Upgrade, hate vista? upgrade through acer if you have purchased this laptop after june 26th. Microsoft sends you a disc and everything on Oct 22nd
-Full keyboard, love the flex keys and the keyboard is very comfortable and not awkward like many laptops
-Sound is amazing. The best I have heard on any laptop
-Video card is better than I thought, 512mb dedicated and up to 2.3gb integrated
-Games, tested World of Warcraft, Fallout 3, and Oblivion on highest settings. No lag or choppy graphics.
-Temperature, the laptop runs very cool and the bottom of mine never even gets warm. There is a little warmth to the left of the touchpad, but it is comfortable like a wrist warmer.
-HDMI is huge when connecting to LCD TV's for streami

Cons: -Bloatware/games, took about an hour to remove it all, but it was expected
-Windows 7 does not release until Oct. 22nd
-It is very difficult to complain, this laptop was better than I expected and I am very impressed.

Other Thoughts: Excellent for games, software, programming, and streaming media. The wireless N is very impressive in performance. I almost bought the acer laptop from newegg the model just under this one. Trust me this laptop is worth the $50 extra. It has a better CPU that runs cooler and is more energy efficient, better video card, and better wireless. I only wish there was more space to write in the pros section so I could list it all.

2 out of 5 eggsNo weakness, but no strength

Pros: -Dedicated GPU
-4GB of Ram

It has no real weaknesses. I can't say that one particular part is the bottleneck that keeps this computer form doing anything.

Cons: -Mediocre gpu
-Poor CPU
-DDR2 Ram is cheap anyways
-Mediocre HD
-Poor screen
-16:9 screen resolution

Here's the problem - it doesn't have a weakness because it doesn't do anything well. It has a little of everything. Which seems all well and good but there's so little of everything that it can't do anything.

The GPU isn't that great, but it does have one. The screen is not rock bottom but they probably purposely put on a low-res screen so you can "max" resolution in games...but the resolution max isn't all that high. The processor is basic, but the cpu is rarely a bottleneck so this cpu makes sense to be in this laptop

Other Thoughts: Overall, after seeing 2 of these at a LAN aprty here at college, I am not impressed at all and this has done nothing to disprove that Acer is not a leading company in terms of good products.

Sure this computer is cheap, but for $800 or so, you can find used Gateway 7811-FX laptops. They'll have 4 GB of DDR3, a p8400, and a whopping 9800 GTS for a video card. And get 3 hours of battery life while packing a nice 17" 1920x1200 res screen.

Honestly, you're better off getting a more focused laptop such as a more media oriented laptop or a more mobile laptop or a more powerful one rather than trying to get a well rounded one at this price point. It simply tries to do too many things and be too much laptop at once. If you are that poor that you have to have everything, get a cheapo used laptop from classified ads or something and save up some more money. This is not worth it!

4 out of 5 eggsAcer Aspire AS6930-6942 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo

Pros: great speed, value, and hardware. With the bloated Vista removed, this machine blazes.

Cons: bloatware, but easily removed by simply formatting it right of the box and reinstalling a tinyvista bloat free version.

Other Thoughts: Gotta try to find a bay door for my second hard drive

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Great laptop for the money, hard to find a better deal than $549 for all it offers.

Cons: Windows Vista, make sure you get the upgrade to Windows 7. Many places are offering the upgrade for free when you buy a computer now.

Other Thoughts: I would definitely buy again! I love NewEgg!

5 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good!

Pros: While I haven't thrown my newer, heavier-duty games at it yet, it HAS been able to handle both 'Heroes of Might & Magic V' and 'Freelancer' at high-quality settings.

The dedicated graphics card may be the highlight of this laptop, but the sound is equally amazing.

Cons: There's a slot for a second hard drive, but good luck trying to find a North American supplier for the drive cage/bay cover that you need to use it. Acer makes it unneccesarily difficult to obtain those parts.

The bloatware took me the better part of an afternoon to remove, and I had to go with a third party solution to create a recovery disk (you will too, if you want to create one that WON'T reinstall the bloatware when you use it).

Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop primarily for software development work, and the occassional game-modding project (Fallout 3, Neverwinter Nights). My secondary goal was to be able to play new-ish games on it (I'm not big into shooters, and prefer RPGs and Strategy games).

So far, this laptop has been perfect for everything I've thrown at it.

2 out of 5 eggsPretty. Faulty.

Pros: Fast, stable. The graphics card is great. Vista 64 runs Photoshop 64-bit and other apps very smoothly. I did lots of research and this was clearly a good price.

Cons: I have the same soft-keys issue as another reviewer. Constantly opened media software, would not stop. Tried removing all bloatware, all acer button software, and still it opened repeatedly. Acer support tells me to wipe the drive with recovery method. They are utterly useless. It also does not stay off when shut down, so I must have other issues with this machine

Other Thoughts: It's a great value if it didn't have softkeys issue. And even if the softkeys and shutdown issue worked well I would give 4 eggs. Maybe 5 if there support were any good.

5 out of 5 eggsFist lab top

Pros: It is fast and handles pictures well, games run well. Fast with wireless. Software is on it to let you do your own system back up when you want to and you have a extra hard drive to back up onto.

Cons: You really have to get a DVD to do factory back up. Back up is a long process.

Other Thoughts: This is my first lab top. I have tried not to get one because they do not upgrade easily. This lab top looks and runs smooth. I bought this for school in hopes I will not need to replace it in 5 years.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great laptop for the money. When it comes to games it ran everything I threw at it so far. Far Cry 2, Prince of Persia 2008, BIA HH, GRID, COD 4 & 5 etc. Screen is bright and clear.

Cons: Nothing too major. The speakers could be alittle louder. From the specs and decription I was expecting better.

Other Thoughts: Would recommend this to a gamer on a budget!!!!!!
