5 out of 5 eggsAll around notebook with Gaming capabilities

Pros: This Acer is great! Design is sleek and the power under the hood compliments it well. For a notebook to run Vista smoothly is not an easy task, but it performs. I installed COD 5 and its runs smooth on medium High settings. I average about 40fps, which is smooth playing. I also attached the notebook to my 52” TV and wow, the HDMI shines. Gaming looks great and DVD’s look good. I have to say the stock memory is solid and the hard drive is fast (even though it’s a 5400 rpm). Vista scored the notebook with a 5.3 (Memory 5.9, CPU 5.4, GPU 5.3 & HD 5.5). I am really happy to have purchased this notebook, buy it you will not regret! Great price as well, I got it a little cheaper.

Cons: Not so much a con but the unit does produce some heat, but all notebooks do. I have a ZALMAN NC2000 cooler and it makes a great difference in temperature. Make sure to use a cooler to prolong the life of the notebook. The hottest part is the GPU. I average about 65C on full load and just normal browsing, word processing…about 50C. The CPU full load 50c and 34c light load.

Other Thoughts: One of most impressive details was when I opened the hard drive/RAM bay underneath. You have access to the CPU and Fan so a cleaning a simple. I also replace the RAM with OCZ DDR2 800, don’t know if really made a difference but I just like to know its running @ maximum supported specs. I also upgrade the HD with WD3200BEKT and that made a much more notable difference. Vista loads quicker and so do programs.

5 out of 5 eggsget get a better laptop for the price

Pros: COST!!!
Nice CPU speed dual core is a plus
the nvidia 9600m gs runs so far sims 3, spore at the highest settings great
large hardrive for a laptop
very beautiful laptop
this same laptop if you built it on dell would probably cost you between 1000 to 1200 bucks

Cons: none really so far, the touch pads page scroll is a little tempermental but hey i use a wireless optical mouse, you cant game on a touch pad!

Other Thoughts: this is a great laptop so far i have used acer for years now and have never had any trouble with their machines! the new egg pictures dont do this laptop justice you have to see it up close to really appreciate its beautiful design. and for a pretty good performance machine she doesnt get really hot at all which is great my friends and familys dell laptops get so hot they nearly burn you if you have it resting on your lap. im glad the same laptop but with a 2 ghz dual core processor and a 250 gb hard drive was sold out when i went to puchase it because for 150 more this machine runs like a champ i would recommend this laptop to anyone

5 out of 5 eggs2.4GHz Core 2 Duo SAYS IT ALL!

Pros: If you can find another laptop for $749.00 with a 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo and a powerful Vid card let me know. Granted for $50 more there is an ASUS which rivals this but a slower processor and nothing at this price. 4GB ram and 320GB HD.. AWSOME value! Every Acer product I have ever owned has been a good value.

Cons: It runs HOT! To be expected. If you are planning on running this as a cheap gaming machine as I am, I suggest some sort of cooling plate. I have noticed with Acer Laptops that if you dont keep them cool they will crash durring gaming.

Other Thoughts: Overall its a wonderful value. I am a HUGE ASUS user across the board but am very happy with this Lappy.

5 out of 5 eggsvery pleased

Pros: I am very pleased with the quality of this product. This is my first laptop and I think I made a very good choice. My dad just got an HP for the same price and the webcam just doesnt compare to the one on my acer. Hands down this is a much better laptop than my dads HP. The free up grade to windows 7 is something to look forward to also!

Cons: When im surfing the web sometimes the battery will flare up and get hot for like 10 seconds then it will cool off again. This only happens once every 15 mins or so. Vista is kinda annoying too.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy

Pros: Great laptop! easy to set up and looks
fast with its 4 gb of ram and 2.4 ghz
boots up real quick
webcam quality is great
free windows 7 upgrade
the price i got it for was a great deal

Cons: fingerprint magnet but so is every other laptop
the 320 gb HDD is split into 2 partitions
I tried combining them but its not really worth the effort.
instead im keeping the D drive for media
Mcafee... I personally hate it and spent a good 30 min trying to uninstall it.

Other Thoughts: I LOVE this laptop, its my first laptop and it is now the fastest computer in the house. i plan on using this laptop well into or through collage (a good 3 years away). I would deffinatly recommend this laptop to a friend.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Looks awesome, run fast, great screen, did I mention looks awesome, the pics on newegg dont do it justice.

Cons: yes, likes fingerprints, keyboard does seem flexible.

Other Thoughts: This is my second Acer laptop. I have been really happy with the first, it just got outdated and needed replaced, never had any problems with it other than being slow. Also, computer arrived on time from UPS and I was very impressed with the communication from newegg. Would definately buy from them again.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Value

Pros: Fast cpu.
Lcd is bright, great color and contrast. No dead pixels.
Good feel to keyboard.
Very good features and value.

Cons: Typical trialware.
No OS and app cd's is bogus. Cant cost that much to include these. MFG's have volume licenses.
Dont care for partitioned hdd, but can live with that.

Other Thoughts: Like others have said this is great bang for the buck. Free shipping was fast, not like other online retailers whose free shipping takes 2 weeks.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat price for the features. Acer Support Lacking

Pros: Impressive vivid display and notebook shell. You really cannot beat the features you get (P8600, 4gb, 9600gs) for the price. The location of the touchpad is more comfortable for me compared to other brands. I plan on using it mostly for business but for fun ran Americas Army 3 and it was suprisingly able to run passable. The graphic detail and vivid colors in game were better than my desktop and audio was good enough for the game. (better than listening to music)

Cons: 1. Acer email only support is very slow to respond. When I first booted up it asked to write the factory DVDs. I did so but noticed the event log filling up with "Driver detected a controller error on \device\cdrom0" (EventID11). while writing the DVDs. I get this whenever I burn anything even though the DVD/CDs verify ok. Been emailing Acer since yesterday but no resolution and have been waiting hours between each response from them. Not sure if the controller is failing and I have to return it or buggy driver with this error.

2. A little disappointed in the speaker audio quality which is mediocre to poor depending on the volume and type of music. I would have expected better considering the product advertising. I would not recommend it for music unless you plan to add external speakers or a headset. That is unless clock radio quality is fine for you. However audio is likely considered normal for the price range since I have had worse with another more expensive brand

Other Thoughts: Pretty good combination of features for the price. The support issue concerns me and if I have to return it I may not get another Acer if they do not at least respond soon.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat deal on good hardware

Pros: It's very pretty to look at and has some nice hardware specs to back it up. Great price too! No dead pixels!

Cons: Full of bloatware. Started it up and it had 83 running processes, can I get a "WOW!"? Screen could have had a better resolution, but I knew what I was buying.

Other Thoughts: I'll be spending a pretty long period of time trying to get this thing cleaned out of all the crud that comes installed.

5 out of 5 eggsMeanwhile, across the pond...

Pros: 4.5 eggs, due to the secondary hard drive bay cover. Intel Core2 Duo P8600: best bang for the buck in the $700-$900 notebook price range. Dedicated NVIDIA 9600 512MB video card. 1366x768 resolution = 16x9 widescreen. Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit (until Windows7 is released). 4GB RAM. Crystal Eye integrated web cam and microphone: great for Skype (or similar), comparable to the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 installed on my desktop. HDMI output. 5.1 sound. 8ms video refresh. Acer Backup - haven't bothered installing Acronis True Image. Glossy black finish - similar to a PS3. No dead pixels. Dual-voltage A/C adapter works fine in UK. Paid $699 from a different source for the 6930-6941 model, which is the same as the -6073, but with the C2D T6400 and a BD-ROM DVD burner,...

Cons: ...but NewEgg doesn't carry the 6930-6941 model. Windows Vista Home Premium. Speakers: OK for some stuff (Skype, low-end games, Windows theme noises), but for DVDs and high-end games good headphones are recommended. Bloatware: no worse than others, namely HP - MS Office 2007 trial offer, a bunch of games (Acer GameZone), and desktop shortcuts to Acer and AOL (NOT the AOL software). Secondary drive bay cover: has a peg which makes it impossible to install a secondary hard drive unless you do some minor Dremel surgery to trim it (which I did, see below). According to their e-mail support, Acer "does not support the installation of a secondary hard drive," so they don't have a cover WITHOUT the peg to replace it. Glossy black finish - fingerprint magnet, similar to a PS3. APO shipping charges suck.

Other Thoughts: Doesn't come with software media, you have to burn your own. Simple to do, and annoying Vista pop-ups consistently remind you to get it done. The recovery process from 3 DVDs to factory-fresh takes about an hour. Are there ANY modern PCs or notebooks that come with software media anymore? I think not, so not an issue. After burning recovery DVDs, installed a Kingston SSDNow V-Series 64GB SSD (a previous NewEgg Shell Shocker special, item #N82E16820139006) as primary drive, installed included hard drive as secondary (after some minor Dremel surgery on secondary drive bay cover), deleted recovery partition and consolidated original 2 drive partitions to a single partition. GREAT setup - though it negatively affects battery time. Trialware: just uninstall what you don't want. Typing slightly off-center to the left due to keypad, but easy enough to adapt to. If I had been in the market for a notebook without BD-ROM, I would've bought the 6930-6073 from NewEgg.
