1 out of 5 eggsAvoid this product and company!!!!

Pros: Has good specs and is lightweight

Cons: Unit has required 3 warranty repairs including a product recall. During one of the repairs an unrelated part was replaced without my knowledge and now that part is malfunctioning and the warranty has now expired!!!

Other Thoughts: Customer service is awful and this company should be avoided at all costs. I paid 800 dollars for this laptop and it is clearly a flawed product. I have had screen and hard drive failure in addition to the product recall problem. Tried to get some help from customer support, even contacted the BBB, but it was useless they simply don't care about there current customers or there reputation. Please don't make the same mistake, and please avoid this company and all of there awful quality products. It's ok to make a bad product if you are willing to stand behind it and assist the customer to make things right, it's unforgivable to make such a terrible product and offer such bad service.

4 out of 5 eggsNice little laptop

Pros: Small, lightweight, well laid out keyboard.

Cons: Alot of extra programs not need right out of the box, almost slows it to a crawl. No vista disk to do a clean install either. Cleared out all the not wanted programs and it is OK. Start up is a bit slow. Hopefully an install of windows 7 should fix all of this.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat deal!

Pros: 1) Light & attractive looking. I know a friend or two with Macs who have drooled over this computer. :)
2) Surprisingly fast -- the processor may only be a step above a netbook's, but combine that with 4 gigs DDR3 1066 ram, a fast system bus, and all-around good design choices, and you get a lot for your money (even running vista).
3) Solid construction. Sure, the screen is a little bit flimsy, but I've kept this computer in my backpack for the past five weeks and had absolutely no problems.
4) Great battery life. On average, I get 6+ hours battery life.

Cons: 1) Crapware. Of course.
2) Terrible graphics support. Youtube videos will occassionally stutter, and forget about touching flash. What do you expect though? That's not what this computer is made for.

Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop for use at college, and so far it has met and exceeded every one of my expectations.

I've installed Ubuntu 9.04 on this computer, and this computer worked perfectly out of the gate -- even wireless! Don't bother with 8.04 though.

5 out of 5 eggsBest purchase i have made in a long time

Pros: 1. Long battery life ( got about 9hrs on a flight from new york to the dominican republic, with a transfer flight and didnt need to charge)
2. Silent
3. Great wifi distance
4. Very clear screen
5. You get more than what you paid for ( i would estimate a computer like this one be valued at over $800)

Cons: Needed to reinstall windows because the computer came with a lot of unnecessary programs, and would slow the comp down, but after reinstalling windows, the computer flys.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than a netbook

Pros: I bought this for college and I am extremely happy with it. Its bigger than a netbook with more power and excellent RAM. I love the 13.3 inch screen. It's light as a feather and runs Wordperfect and Open Office like a dream. I get about 6 hours on the battery. I probably could get more if I tweaked the settings, but I'll take slightly less battery life for a brighter screen. The price is excellent and delivery was extremely fast.

Cons: Like everyone else who has reviewed this, the main problems are the MANY software programs it comes with and fingerprints on the keyboard. I find those minor flaws. It did take me a while to uninstall the added programs, though. I'm finally used to the fingerprints, but CSI would have a field day if they found my Acer at a crime scene.

Other Thoughts: This is the perfect computer for a college students. My friends are jealous at how light it is. I don't miss the optical drive and use my desktop to transfer files or plug an external cd writer to it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: It's does everything it says it does. It's pretty fast and the battery is about 6 hours which is still very good. Small and light enough where it's not a hassle having to carry it around for extended periods of time but also big enough so your hands aren't stuck together at all times when trying to type on it.

Cons: Since the processor isn't very fast you will have trouble loading multiple programs but that is not what it's made for so not upset about it.

Other Thoughts: Very good purchase if you're looking for a laptop for either a student or if you just need something that you can take with you anywhere and not have any issues.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Laptop

Pros: Just received it a few hours ago, and it has lived up to my expectations. Charged it up, and have been using it for 3 hours. The battery reads just under 5 hours left. The 13.3" screen is a perfect size, keyboard is exceptional, and the overall size is great. I owned a few acer laptops in the past, and their overall build quality has improved over the years.

Cons: Finger prints on the keyboard cant be avoided, and the speakers aren't to great (but how many laptops come with good speakers?). Bunch of unnessessary programs loaded, but they can be uninstalled.

Other Thoughts: No reason to spend extra $$ on other brands. All you are doing is paying for advertising. Acer is my brand of choice, and I always recommend it to customers.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat alternative to a 'Netbook' for light computing

Pros: - Bigger, more usable display than 10" or 11" netbooks
- More powerful processor expands functionality
- Full size 'chicklet' keyboard feels great, solid
- Battery life is fantastic, comparable to most netbooks
- It looks great. Doesn't have all that super-shiny, finger-grease-loving plastic that every manufacturer simultaneously decided was a good idea. It's not a bright, sparkly stupid color, either. It's quite professional-looking, at least once you remove all the stickers.

Cons: - Screen is quite thin, and can feel a little flimsy. This isn't noticeable so much on the 13" Timeline, but certainly on the 14" and 15" models.
- Optical drive: I know, obviously it doesn't come with one and I never thought it would be an issue, but tracking down an external drive to borrow to install a new OS was more difficult than I thought.
- Takes a while to charge... But what do you expect?

Other Thoughts: I'm very satisfied with this purchase. I was looking at the 10" netbooks for a while (like the Asus Seashell), until I finally saw one in person and realized that the screen / keyboard were unworkably small for me. The 11" Aspire One is a good size, but the battery life is only so-so (with a 6-cell) and the processor is less powerful than the 10" netbooks. I like the Lenovo S12, but for the money, the slightly bigger screen and longer battery life of the 13" Timeline are worth it to me. I spent a long time reading and researching trying to find a very portable, long-lasting computer that I could take around with me. This was definitely it. One final note; the HDD starts around 284 Gb (not 320). I believe this is because Acer partitions it to keep a 'backup' OS to restore to factory settings in dire situations (Alt+F10 when booting accesses the recovery module). I just left it, since I the existing space is plenty for my purposes.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: This computer is very fast. I was hesitant to order one cause of the slow clock speed of only 1.3 ghz but now using it, it seems much faster then that. Windows Vista x64 runs very well on it with little to no lag. Also the keyboard is very nice to type on and looks stylish. This is also eligiable for a free windows 7 upgrade from acer (http://acer.com/windows7upgrade/)

Cons: As with most Acers comes with bloatware from the start. Easy fix though reformat and install a clean version of windows.

Other Thoughts: Very good buy for the price. I highly recommended this laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsFreeze Fix

Pros: The 3810tz is truly a great laptop. The CPU will prob get better in the future, but for now it will do. The ddr3 ram is really hard to find on laptops unless you spend a LOT more (good job Acer). It only weights about 3-3.5lbs with a 13" LED LCD.

Cons: When I first bought the 3810tz from Newegg it was freezing all the time. I was typing in word 2007 with no other programs running and it would freeze. Newegg offered me an RMA for a replacement, but before I sent it I did a bios flash to v1.08 Acer released it on 07/14/09. It still would freeze, but not so often. Then, I installed Vista Premium x64 as a clean install. That fixed the problem.

Other Thoughts: Besides the freezing when I first got the laptop it is really a great investment. If you do have the freezing problem try a clean install of Vista or Windows 7 and it will fix your problem. I would highly recommend the Acer 3810TZ to anyone that needs a well built laptop with great battery life(6.75hrs with screen on full brightness and streaming a dvd over wifi!!!!) Buy this product.
