5 Stars for design, 2.5 Stars for lack of support updates = 3.5 Stars total!
- Pros: Perfect size, weight and aesthetically beautiful. Keyboard has a very nice feel to it and very easy to type. Mouse pad is also nice. Comes with DVD burner. Aluminum lid is very pleasing. Battery life (anything over 7 hours is good enough for me).
- Cons: Not out-of-the-box friendly experience. Acer needs to update more support drivers to coincide with sluggish performances. No Express Card slot. No eSata. Single Core CPU.
- Other Thoughts: My initial thought; upon receiving this laptop was an astounding 'wow' because aesthetically speaking, it is the nicest notebook I've seen to date. The aluminum lid alone is worth buying, plus, the more than 8 hours battery life and under 1" thick body is more than enough reason for me to pursue my purchase of this little notebook.
The downside: It is not out-of-the-box friendly, meaning you'd have to go through hoops just to download/update drivers and remove a whole lot of bloatwares (like the 15+ game programs) to increase its performance level, or to keep it under load. Funny, I've never seen so much game software installed on a non-gaming notebook and I couldn't even possibly imagine who'd play games on this single-core machine. The laptop is good for web browsing to a limited stat, and even using MS Office could easily spike the cpu load. The drivers from Acer's website could be a daunting task too because you really don't know which one goes for what unless you install them
Acer AS4810T
- Pros: Quick, quite, light ... I upgraded to Windows 7 and it had all of the drivers natively. Windows update took care of installing the video card specific drivers! Works great. I would go and download the synaptec mouse drivers on your own, a quick install and you have 2 finger scroll and 3 finger flick! Best laptop I've purchased. I haven't stress tested it much but the 8+ hr batter seems to be legit!
- Cons: Wish I would have waited until on 1810TZ Core2Duo
- Other Thoughts: Acer timeline series is the way I'd go for a laptop.
great notebook
- Pros: -portable
-unparalleled battery life in this size -HDMI out -web cam
- Cons: -cheaper now on popular competitor site by 20 but really shouldn't be above 550 with the single core processor. comparatively, the same notebook with a slight 100mhz slower cpu is a hundred bucks cheaper
-single core cpu -'light' processor footprint too light so maybe slower than anticipated and requires removing bloatware in some instances, to be really useful -GMA integrated graphics, where when Nvidia ION debut on this lineup?
- Other Thoughts: ultra thin, light, but with 14" and 1360x768 res, a quasi paradigm of portable computing really, particularly those who find netbook screens too small and too low res
