Great for the money!
- Pros: This is a great laptop for the money. You get everything you need for a very low price. Performance is very good with the dual core penryn. Full features for a little more than a netbook. Windows 7 is very nice and zippy. All my applications run very smooth...The specs say 1 Gig of ddr2-667 BUT mine came with ddr2-800 to make an fsb:dram ration 1:2... sweet!!!
- Cons: No microphone for the webcam!!! Didn't know that. Took me over 5 hours to uninstall the Acer Bundled software (b/s) and install avg 9.0 free and foxit reader, etc... Should have either had 4 gigs of RAM or had windows 7 32-bit installed. 64-bit requires a MINIMUM of 2 Gigs. But performance is still smooth... so no eggs were removed.
- Other Thoughts: Overall, a decent modern 45nm laptop with GL40 graphics and a 15.6" screen and Windows 7 OS. A great deal for the latest and the greatest...would recommend. IF using skype or any IM/VM Get a microphone... The plug is on the left side...
No built-in microphone
- Pros: Windows 7 is pretty cool, machine is fast and full of nice features
- Cons: No built in microphone. I seriously don't see the point of advertising a built-in web-cam with no microphone.
- Other Thoughts: I would have given this machin a high rating, but I'm really ticked-off about the microphone situation. I bought this because I'm traveling overseas and was attracted by the price and the built-in web-cam, only to discover that there's no point in using the web-cam with no microphone.
Great machine. Hate Acer
- Pros: This machine is great for the money. It's fast and Windows 7 is really quite nice. It's very quiet. I did upgrade the memory from 2 gigs to 4 gigs myself, but it did seem pretty quick even before the upgrade.
- Cons: Battery life is pretty bad if you are doing anything other than writing in Word. Tends to run pretty hot.
- Other Thoughts: This is the first time I have ever purchased an Acer. I will NOT do that again. I work with Dells and have always had either Dells or clones and Acer is a huge disappointment support wise and even with what they give you. When you purchase a new Dell you receive a copy of the drivers and any other applications that came with your Dell including the Operating System disk and Roxio. Acer on the other hand comes with ZERO disks, not even a driver cd. When you contact them, they tell you that you have to purchase the cd from them for $19.95 or you can run a backup of your laptop yourself using their backup software. I don't like factory installed setups and wanted to wipe the laptop and put a fresh copy of Windows 7 on, but they will not provide it for me. I have a license and no software, which has never happened to me before. It's very frustrating and I'm pretty sure there support is not based in the US as the responses I'm receiving from their Tech department don't even make sense.
