Pros: Excellent computer. It will do what you want, and then some. Screen is massive, back lit keys are amazing

Cons: Less than 24 hours after I received it the number 2 3 4 letter E D C the F2 F3 F4 and the ` keys all died on it. I removed the keyboard to make sure it was connected properly, performed all the troubleshooting procedures and still nothing. It wouldn't have been that big of a problem, however I am in the middle of Afghanistan and outgoing mail just doesn't happen where I am at. so for the last 3 almost 4 months I have been stuck with a busted laptop.

Other Thoughts: Other than the Keyboard problem, there is nothing wrong with this laptop. Easily out performs the others that people in my platoon have bought to try and show me up. HAHA.....now if it wasn't for that busted keyboard...!

1 out of 5 eggsAcer Lemon

Pros: delivery was quick

Cons: Bought this unit for my fiance. Dead USB ports, poor audio performance and after 2 months it won't boot...

I then entered Acer Customer Service Hell.com. SNID not valid for phone support. Email support (offshore of course) told me to download drivers.

Currently begging Newegg for support that manufacturer simply will not supply.

I will update if I get any relief.

I would NOT recommend taking a chance although I've had an ACER netbook that was great, just never had to deal with their complete lack of customer support which at this point means I'm out $1400...

3 out of 5 eggsGreat computer, horrible hard drive

Pros: Nice screen, great backlit keyboard, fast processor

Cons: Hard drive failed on the first day!!!!!!!

Other Thoughts: Overall, seems to be a very nice computer with an excellent screen and layout. However, the hard failed on the first day. I called Acer customer support (an actual phone number with an actual person who answered within 1 minute). They determined that the hard drive was bad after several different tests including removing the hard drive and putting it back in. They initially wanted me to send the computer to them and they would fix it. However, after a minor challenge to the customer support rep, they agreed to send me a new hard drive instead. Will post update after a new hard drive is installed.

5 out of 5 eggsHappy =D

Pros: 1. Very aesthetically pleasing (My girlfriend thought it was a laptop from the future and possibly the illegitimate child of "KIT" the knight rider car.) - Media controls and indicator lights are very nice (great color scheme/function).

2. KEYBOARD!!! (note, SUPER excitement) - The keyboard is gorgeous. They are flat chiclet keys as opposed to raised keys. This is unique and they are very, very responsive. They possess just the right amount of resistive push. Also, the keys are backlitted for night time play. All in all, the keyboard is the equivalent of something awesome mating with something else that's awesome and then producing an offspring just as equally awesome.

3. Screen (18.4"/1080p/16:9) - errr what the heck more do you need?

4. Performance - BLAZING glory and studliness. Please note that I have a SSD installed but I run a 2nd monitor, photoshop, a text editor, Songbird, an ftp client, Trillian and Firefox with 20 tabs open and my performance does not take a hitch.

Cons: 1. Bottom left runs hot. - I've noticed that almost all Acer's run hot there. This is perplexing but the core i7 chipset is known to run hot. I tried to remedy this by using a laptop cooler (NZXT makes a good one that accommodates an 18.4" laptop) . My temperature reads are fine.

2. Placement of the wireless toggle key is right next to the control key - I am a web developer so I am constantly using short cut keys and as a result I often find myself accidentally turning off my wireless.

3. Not portable - but you knew that.

4. I cannot find a 2nd set of hard drive mounting brackets anywhere online for this laptop. Someone informative, please help.

*The top 2 listed cons are my only concerns. Everything else is relative from person to person. Glossy screen? Glossy lid? Glossy is nice just like how lip gloss is nice. Fingerprints? The laptop comes with a microfiber cloth.

Other Thoughts: I'm not going to lie. This laptop is catered to the Power User. If you are planning to use it for everyday browsing, chatting, youtube and facebooking than there are better solutions out there.

With that said, if you are seeking a devilishly good looking laptop that will admirably do anything you ask it to at a pretty much can't beat, EXCELLENT PRICE point, than this is the laptop for you.

Also, a few reviewers have left negative reviews due to faulty parts. I know it sucks but thousands of these are sold so DOA's are bound to happen.

Lastly, to all the reviewers complaining about Acer's lack of customer service, I don't think it is fair that this particular product is judged on Acer's support as opposed to the actual performance of the laptop.

My 2 Cents.

3 out of 5 eggsGOOD PRODUCT, LOUSY SUPPORT

Pros: A big beautiful desktop replacement. It has a beautiful monitor, great graphics (Graphics performance experience rating is 6.6), and all the bells and whistles you could want (if they all worked).
It is fast as can be. This replaced a 2.8GHz dual core PC, yet it is much faster. It boots in seconds and tasks take about 1/4 of the time to complete. My RAM experience rating is 7.7! Calculations per second rating is 7.1.
Back-lit keys. For me they have the touch and feel of a "real" keyboard.

Cons: I don't understand putting a 5400 RPM HDD in a high-end machine like this. By far the lowest experience index rating at 5.5.
I also don't understand having the keyboard off-center. This is a big, beautiful, huge monitor, but it isn't centered. They could easily have put the media controls on the left-hand side, and balanced the keyboard.
The caps lock/num lock icons are in an awkward place. I finally realized my left hand was covering them up.
64-bit OS doesn't make sense until there is significantly more software that takes advantage of the extra RAM. Lots of 32-bit programs I regularly use simply don't work on the 64-bit OS. So I installed my 32-bit version, but unfortunately it looks like Acer doesn't supply all the drivers since the eSATA port and bluetooth don't work. There is a SATA driver and card reader driver, but no eSATA driver and the bluetooth driver won't install since it says bluetooth isn't enabled.

Other Thoughts: Acer support is unbelievably horrible, which is the primary reason this goes down to 3 eggs. I will NEVER purchase another Acer laptop. If I hadn't already given away my old PC, I would return this. Their website is a joke. There are no manuals for this model and when you submit a support ticket, neither this model nor Windows 7 are even options from the drop-down. It has taken me TEN emails just to get them to understand my issues (the eSATA port and no bluetooth). They say the only answer is for me to pay to ship the laptop to them. I have to pay to ship a laptop because they don't know how to resolve what is probably a driver problem?
They don't have recover disks, even for sale.
Some may be concerned about the size. It barely fits onto a laptop desk. Look up the Peck's bentwood laptop desk. I can't adjust the height of the center tray because I wouldn't be able to use the USB ports or HDMI output.

4 out of 5 eggsBest bang for the buck at this time

Pros: - Excellent high res screen. Do you know how hard it is to find a gaming laptop that has a 17' or larger screen that's above 1440x900 these days?
- Dual drive bays. Hopefully a BIOS update will add RAID.
- Blu-ray at this price. Bonus!
- Backlit keyboard. This should be standard on all gaming laptops now
- You won't find any current laptop with these specs at this price, and almost nothing with similar specs under $2000.

Cons: - Like most of the others, the missing bluetooth while actually having the physical control for it on the keyboard and the drivers pre installed is stupid. There's no excuse for it to be absent from a laptop such as this.
- Touchpad buttons are a bit stiff, which makes you work more when using the touchpad.
- Wifi card is an Intel 5100, and not the newer 5300, and the included card and laptop chassis only has 2 antenna leads when 3 have become standard.
- What the hell is up with the glossy finish manufacturers are using on laptops these days? It's a terrible idea, as scratches and swirl marks can't be avoided over time.

Other Thoughts: Updating the video drivers to any of the latest nvidia releases prevents Arcade deluxe from playing blu-ray discs because they're not WHQL certified right now. This is annoying as hell and needs to be addressed.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I purchased this Laptop from newegg handing of a HP HDX18T to my girlfreind I've had for a year and I can say I'm not disapointed in the move.I did add a Samsung 128 gb as a primary drive and this thing is very snappy. The screen is nicer with the wights being whiter because of the LED backlight. The 500gb drive it comes with is fast than the 320gb 7200rpm drive thats in my old HDX18T so don't worry about the hard drive speed its fast.Like the lighted keyboad to.

Cons: the only thing it could use is built in bluetooth.Should have put it in since bluetooth is so cheap to add.

Other Thoughts: Been a newegg fan for years. When I check prices I always go to newegg. They win most of the time.

5 out of 5 eggsIts huge.....and I dont care!

Pros: Very good performance and a great bargain.... where else can you get an i7, a GTS250M and an 18.4" 1080P display for this price. Chassis build quality feels solid, especially the hinges. It runs luke warm at idle and it's quiet. The fan always runs at low speed at idle so the machine doesn't get heat soaked.

The display is bright and crisp with good color and no ghosting in games. (8ms panel :D). The viewing angle could be better, but you'd have to spend a LOT more to solidly better this display.

Speakers are quite good for a laptop.

Bluray is nice, as is the ability to hook it to any HDTV or display out there...there's VGA, HDMI and DisplayPort. There's even an eSATA port, which will be handy for sure. S/PDIF exists for connection to an old AV receiver. There is not expansion dock port, but this laptop is so well connected and large that one is not necessary.

The backlit keyboard has been good, even with my large-ish hands. Going from my desktop to this and back feels natu

Cons: I have some very minor gripes however....

The SD card reader is in a funny place and cards may be difficult to remove. Some bloatware but nothing too invasive or hard to remove, it was easier to clean out than my old HP.

The touchpad may take some time getting used to. The buttons are stiff and on occasion the multi-touch gesture system gets confused when I accidentally get an extra finger on it in the dark.

Its a fingerprint magnet, but what isn't these days.....

It's heavy, but that's to be expected with this much hardware. With that said, it was a bit lighter than I expected.

A 5400 RPM HDD is a bit lame in this machine, but it isn't as bad as you'd think...its a WD Scorpio Blue which is one of the fastest 5400RPM drives out there. Still, I plan to put a Scorpio Black in here sometime.

No restore media included, like everyone else, you have to burn your own.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I give it a 95/100 and I am recommending this to another LAN party buddy looking for a laptop. I'd give this one a strong look.

4 out of 5 eggs8930g

Pros: Great unit - screen size is nice. I bought a refurb off e bay and it seems to work great. sometimes refurbs are better because they fix all the first run production problems. Runs XP Pro nice and fast.

Cons: weight although reasonable for such a big screen. NO Ir driver for xp.

Other Thoughts: Throw XP Pro on this machine and it works like a dream.
