Pros: I haven't used/owned many laptops over the years to compare against, but I have to admit this is a pretty sweet unit :) -) Core i7 is a screamer - pretty fast CPU -) Screen is nice - plays blue ray movies beautifully (at least when I checked in Win7) -) Backlit keys are nice - the entire key is illuminated, not just the key letter itself. -) Media controls are nice
Cons: -) The backlit keyboard keys are "lipped", meaning that it would be very easy for kids to worm their fingers underneath them and (cringe) rip them up/off. My kids did that with an earlier laptop of mine, so it does bear mentioning. -) Wonder why Acer went with a 5400rpm drive? Either for cost or for heat, maybe both? In Win7, the "experience index" listed that as the weakest component -) Unit size + weight does take some getting used to. The power supply is also a brick, which adds to the overall weight when transporting. I couldn't see myself lugging this around town. I only plan on keeping it in the house and moving it from room to room. -) Unit is a fingerprint magnet
Other Thoughts: -) The price ratio seems pretty good right now for this unit vs. most others out there. On Newegg, there was a Toshiba Qosmio i7 unit was at the same price point at the time that I made my purchase, but had slightly lesser features. -) Recovery media isn't bundled separately with the unit, but the flip side is that it's on the hard drive and is burnable from the built in recovery tool. You can also order it from the Acer support site for $20US. -) Not too much crapware installed by default, but as I blew it away and installed Ubuntu, I didn't get the chance to check every nook and cranny to see all the installs. -) Touchpad is a bit finicky, thought it's probably just me and something for me to adjust to. -) At the time of this writing (mid Nov 2009), Acer still hasn't updated their website with information about the unit, nor added any support links for the unit. They do have drivers published though (at least).

Pros: Almost everything high end you can want. Blu-Ray, a screen resolution that take advantage of it, Wirless N, DDR3, Core i7. Very slick design, without being too flashy. Not too heavy for a desktop replacement, since this will mostly be my traveling laptop (movies and games on the road). 5.1 sound is a nice spec, but it mostly just ends up as a richer laptop audio experence, compared to the standard speakers most laptops use. Backlit keys are nice. Good number of dedicated media keys with a nice rotational volume dial. Comes with IR reciever at the front, but no TV tuner (which is optional on some models). This comes in handy for a Windows Media Center remote, in case you are interested in that sort of control. DisplayPort is forward thinking.
Cons: NO BLUETOOTH! Not a deal breaker but was hopeful, since Acer lists it in the specs for certain models. The other BIG drawback is the lack of support. No full manual, just a quick start guide even on Acer's support website (which was a chore just to find). Funny since thay are shooting for the #1 PC spot. Keys are flat, which takes a little time to get used to. No Windows 7 or rescue discs. Could have used a 12 cell battery. Especially since weight for this model is not an issue. Video is not the top of the line 260GTX. For a desktop replacement laptop it would come in handy to have a dedicated docking station. It would keep the cables in the back instead of all of them connecting on the sides.
Other Thoughts: You are mostly on your own for any upgrades, and support in general as far as that goes. I think I found the Bluetooth module to install. Acer does have a drivers on their support site. However, I will have to crack open the case to make sure. Also Acer references 2 HDD bay on certain models. Haven't looked into it yet, but again I will have to open the case and see for myself. I have a 1 year old Gateway (which is part of Acer) that was sparse on information and accessories, but the Acer makes the Gateway feel as ubiquitous as the iPOD. It may seen that I don't really love this machine, but I do. It has all the key specs I was looking for. I have a high end i7 desktop for my everyday PC. So if this laptop is your true desktop replacement, then make sure it has everything YOU want. Because I don't think you could get a better hish end laptop for the price anywhere. Even though it irks me that they would not put a $25 Bluetooth module in $1,500 laptop. I would buy it again.

Pros: A nice Desktop replacement Plays Dragon age at high settings with out a problem Acer put in some nice details like the power button is lit up if just on battery and has a line that lights up pointing to the power cord when plugged in. Can set the finger print scan pre bios and will then auto log into Windows. And as always very happy with newegg. Shipping was fast and they packaged the laptop box in another box surrounded by bubble bags a big plus as the UPS drivers here can be rather ham fisted.
Cons: Glare on the glossy screen can be annoying Area to the left of the touch pad can get warm with long gaming sessions (but a laptop cooler helped that) Finding a bag from this beast
Other Thoughts: Convenience Keys to either side of keyboard can be touchy for people with big hands if you forget to use the hold button.
