Acer Lemon
- Pros: delivery was quick
- Cons: Bought this unit for my fiance. Dead USB ports, poor audio performance and after 2 months it won't boot...
I then entered Acer Customer Service Hell.com. SNID not valid for phone support. Email support (offshore of course) told me to download drivers.
Currently begging Newegg for support that manufacturer simply will not supply.
I will update if I get any relief.
I would NOT recommend taking a chance although I've had an ACER netbook that was great, just never had to deal with their complete lack of customer support which at this point means I'm out $1400...
Great computer, horrible hard drive
- Pros: Nice screen, great backlit keyboard, fast processor
- Cons: Hard drive failed on the first day!!!!!!!
- Other Thoughts: Overall, seems to be a very nice computer with an excellent screen and layout. However, the hard failed on the first day. I called Acer customer support (an actual phone number with an actual person who answered within 1 minute). They determined that the hard drive was bad after several different tests including removing the hard drive and putting it back in. They initially wanted me to send the computer to them and they would fix it. However, after a minor challenge to the customer support rep, they agreed to send me a new hard drive instead. Will post update after a new hard drive is installed.
Happy =D
- Pros: 1. Very aesthetically pleasing (My girlfriend thought it was a laptop from the future and possibly the illegitimate child of "KIT" the knight rider car.) - Media controls and indicator lights are very nice (great color scheme/function).
2. KEYBOARD!!! (note, SUPER excitement) - The keyboard is gorgeous. They are flat chiclet keys as opposed to raised keys. This is unique and they are very, very responsive. They possess just the right amount of resistive push. Also, the keys are backlitted for night time play. All in all, the keyboard is the equivalent of something awesome mating with something else that's awesome and then producing an offspring just as equally awesome.
3. Screen (18.4"/1080p/16:9) - errr what the heck more do you need?
4. Performance - BLAZING glory and studliness. Please note that I have a SSD installed but I run a 2nd monitor, photoshop, a text editor, Songbird, an ftp client, Trillian and Firefox with 20 tabs open and my performance does not take a hitch.
- Cons: 1. Bottom left runs hot. - I've noticed that almost all Acer's run hot there. This is perplexing but the core i7 chipset is known to run hot. I tried to remedy this by using a laptop cooler (NZXT makes a good one that accommodates an 18.4" laptop) . My temperature reads are fine.
2. Placement of the wireless toggle key is right next to the control key - I am a web developer so I am constantly using short cut keys and as a result I often find myself accidentally turning off my wireless.
3. Not portable - but you knew that.
4. I cannot find a 2nd set of hard drive mounting brackets anywhere online for this laptop. Someone informative, please help.
*The top 2 listed cons are my only concerns. Everything else is relative from person to person. Glossy screen? Glossy lid? Glossy is nice just like how lip gloss is nice. Fingerprints? The laptop comes with a microfiber cloth.
- Other Thoughts: I'm not going to lie. This laptop is catered to the Power User. If you are planning to use it for everyday browsing, chatting, youtube and facebooking than there are better solutions out there.
With that said, if you are seeking a devilishly good looking laptop that will admirably do anything you ask it to at a pretty much can't beat, EXCELLENT PRICE point, than this is the laptop for you.
Also, a few reviewers have left negative reviews due to faulty parts. I know it sucks but thousands of these are sold so DOA's are bound to happen.
Lastly, to all the reviewers complaining about Acer's lack of customer service, I don't think it is fair that this particular product is judged on Acer's support as opposed to the actual performance of the laptop.
My 2 Cents.
