Good Potential, but did not live up to expectations.

Pros: Beautiful screen and a great dedicated video card. The sound wasn't so bad once you updated the driver and the computer ran at a very good temperature, even while gaming. Also, DDR3 memory and DDR3 Video Card memory.
Cons: I had received my computer during my winter break after the fall semester and noticed the computer would randomly freeze. I was busy during the break because i was moving into a new apartment and didn't use it at all the first 3 weeks of having the computer. I assumed it must have been faulty drivers or the bloat ware that was causing it. I updated the OS to Windows 7 Ultimate and noticed the same problem persisted, i quickly did another reformat with windows 7 Ultimate and it did not have an issue. This only lasted for 4-5 days and the freezing continued. I Quickly called New Egg and they gave me an RMA and i literally sent the machine back on the final day of my 30 day replacement policy.
New Egg took a while to process the RMA, which is dissapointing, but they offered a refund because the computer was not out of stock. I upgraded and bought the ASUS N61JQ with an i7 processor, hopefully the Asus lives up to the great potential. But i must admit, i will miss the 18 inche screen!
Other Thoughts: I had purchased the computer and had it mailed to my Apt. in New York in stead of my Apt. in Michigan ( i go to school there) because of winter break. I received the computer literally the next business day without having to purchase next day delivery. New Egg is great when it comes to shipping your product

Pros: I have been waiting for just the right 18 inch laptop to come along for a while. This one had what I wanted. Powerful, screen size, graphics power, webcam, good sound(after driver update), runs cool, plays any game I have tried easily, dual drive bays, multi touch pad, decent battery life for such a large laptop. It's great for watching media. It is everything I wanted for $800. No other laptop comes close for the money. I like it a lot and highly recommend it.
Cons: No detailed instructions for the multi touch pad. Sound could be better, but It's fine. Honestly the things that bugged me at first are working out in time.
I don't like the single bar touch pad button. It's a little hard to find by touch and you have to press quite hard if your not right on the ends.
Other Thoughts: When I first got it it had a speaker problem which is now remedied by a Jan. driver update that was easy to implement. At first I found the touch pad hard to use, but I increased the sensitivity and after using it for a couple months it seems to have broken in and now I like it quite a lot. The multi gesture features are great.
The touch volume controls could be more sensitive. It seems to only work in 25% increments unless you use the system tray sound control, and the mute is a little hard to engage, but I use the control quite a lot and like it.
I can't tell any weight difference from the 17" it replaced and it fits in my Targus Miami bag I had for my 17. It's tight, but it fits.
Overall I'm very happy with this laptop.

Nice display, very buggy

Pros: As I said, nice display and I like the keyboard. Build quality on a scale of 1-10 probably a 6-7.
Cons: No restore disk, volume control on the side is about useless, touchpad is very buggy. Sometimes works, sometimes not. Huge problem with using USB hard drives. It fails to copy large files 100-200 megs plus. It will start and then lock up. It appears from my work so far to be a program or service causing this right out of the box. It doesn't appear to be a hardware issue. Acer support USELESS. If the lower level tech
Other Thoughts: The USB issue is huge. I 'd like to know if anyone else is experiencing this and if so, how did you resolve
