Pros: I purchased this laptop to use as a monitor out in the feild while shooting digital pictures.I use a Epson 1280 printer to print my pictures.I like this laptop it is simple to use.The monitor shows great detail in my pictures.
Cons: My cons are its abit heavy, fingerprints shown on the slightist touch. The biggest gripe I have is sound of speakers, there was something left out at the factory. The volume is very low and it just needs a serious speaker upgrade.
Other Thoughts: I would purchase this laptop again if the audio was updated and hard drive was larger,at least a 500 gig......

Rating: 5/5Pretty Good Machine
Pros: Attractively built and lightweight. Quiet; barely runs the fans at all. Reliable so far (6 months owned).
The comparatively large amount of RAM is my favorite feature about this machine; very little these days is CPU-bound. Combined with respectable specs in everything else, this makes it a good machine for me.
Full-resolution HD video plays without significantly straining the CPU.
I tend to palm the touchpad a lot, and there's a nice hardware "off" switch for this.
Runs very well under Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit; webcam, wifi, and 3D acceleration all work with no tweaking.
Cons: The lid's glossy back side is prone to scratching.
This is not a gaming machine; its graphics chipset is kind of weak. While it is fine for HD videos, you will probably not have great results trying to play current AAA titles.
Other Thoughts: Battery life started at a little over 3 hours and is now at about 2h50m after 6 months of use. It can sleep for days in standby.
You'd think that only 2 USB ports would be limiting. I thought so too, but it has never turned out to be an issue in the time I've owned it.
It is my standard procedure to nuke a new computer and install the OS from scratch, so I can't comment on the preinstalled software.

Rating: 4/5Good value with some minor annoyances
Pros: Great specs for a $400 machine with free shipping - they speak for themselves! Good size hard drive and excellent memory for the price.
Cons: The touch pad can choose to be non-responsive or go off on its own. The speakers arent the best and you need to lift it off your lap if you cant hear what youre listening to well enough. The other thing, that can be irritating, is that the plug for the power supply on the left side of the machine is constantly coming undone and being switched to battery mode.
Other Thoughts: For $400 and no shipping its a good machine to browse the internet, email and store files of word docs and pics. There are some annoyances but its a compromise with the cost.

Rating: 4/5Good College Laptop
Pros: 4GB of RAM give this thing a lot of power and performance. Runs all my applications smoothly and has no problems with multi-tasking. Love the full keyboard, and the number pad. Windows 7 home premium was a plus, considering my last laptop had Vista pre-installed. Virtually no overheating issues. I can sit this thing on my lap and leave it there for hours without it getting hot. Rather lightweight for it's size. If you're looking for a laptop that offers great all-around performance in a small size, this is the best for the price.
Cons: The touch pad on this thing is a little bit faulty, and has a tendency to sometimes not respond at all, or click on something when you only mean to move the cursor. Somewhat frustrating. The free trial of McAffee on this thing ended in 2009, while I got the laptop in 2010. I'm not sure what my feelings are on having a laptop that's obviously been sitting in a warehouse somewhere for a year. Might explain the touch pad. The speakers aren't the best I've heard, and offer virtually no bass-range to the music I play. The high-gloss casing is very pretty to look at, but also attracts dust and fingerprints like nothing else. Cleanfreaks beware. Plenty of junkware installed upon initial startup, but I've come to expect that with Acer so it wasn't much of a big deal to take the time to get rid of it all. Also, since the graphics card is Intel, it's probably not the best laptop to take to a LAN party.
Other Thoughts: For what I paid, this is a laptop with a lot of great features and a decent amount of power under the hood. If you can get past the touch pad and low-quality speakers, I'd highly recommend this laptop for college students that need a computer with all-around performance and functionality.

Rating: 4/5Better than Lenovo
Pros: I got this for $430 and the Lenovo G550(29583RU) for $450 for two high school graduates being used abroad. I tested both out before giving them away. I liked the keyboard better on the Acer and the screen/webcam resolution. The keyboard on the Lenovo felt clunky. Battery life seemed to be better than Lenovo too. Fine for surfing the web, viewing DVDs and general use.
Cons: None at the moment for Acer.
Other Thoughts: For the prices, they are fine for college students. I personally have a MacBook Pro so using the PC laptops took a bit getting used to. But I would go with Acer over Lenovo for look and feel.

Rating: 4/5Great Acer, Great Price
Pros: Great price (as always from NEW EGG), fast shipping with detailed updates. Everything worked and came how expected. Awesome return policy (haven't used-another pro). Good offer and price for extended warranty (purchased). Easy to use and product works exactly as hoped.
Cons: None for NewEgg. For the laptop don't care for the mouse pad. It is fickle and sometimes the mouse moves where I don't intend. With it being off-centered, a bit challenging to transition from keyboard to mouse as with traditionally center-placed laptop.

Rating: 5/5Great for the price
Pros: You can use this to run MS Office, watch DVDs, and run most programs. It's a nice little machine, once you remove all the bloatware (and there is a TON of it). Nice clear display, keyboard is reasonable, built-in webcam, wi-fi, etc. It boots quickly, and doesn't seem to bog down with standard applications.
Cons: No built-in mike, is a bit of a fingerprint magnet (high-gloss finish). No Windows CD...but it allows one to make an emergency backup DVD to restore the system. Windows 7 is a bit of a learning curve for those like myself who completely skipped Vista (no regrets).
Other Thoughts: I think this is a superb choice for a student, or an all around general purpose machine. I haven't tried gaming on it, but I'm going to guess it wouldn't fare too well--with the processor demands of new games. I haven't used it much on battery only, so I don't know how the battery fares.

Pros: Very Nice Looking Laptop with decent performance for only $399.99. Decent Video Play Back. Dual Core Processor With 1 MB Level 2 Cache and Windows 7 64BIT.A Great Value!!!
Cons: DDR2 instead of DDR3. Only 5400RPM on the Hard Drive. Shared Memory instead of Dedicated.
Other Thoughts: For Only $399 We Were Not Expecting a High Tech Gaming Laptop!!!
