4 out of 5 eggsGreat netbook lousy Speakers

Pros: Great note/netbook excellent keyboard big hard drive. Good screen resolution & light portable and does not get that hot. Very silent even at full load. Have not tried any game on it yet.

Cons: Does not last 8hrs unless all you are doing is surfing the web. Speakers or should I say lack there of. The speakers are horrible but I went to local Best buy and discovered all netbooks speakers are horrible.

4 out of 5 eggsNotebook Performance in Netbook Form Factor

Pros: *Good processing power and smooth Windows 7 performance.
*One of the few 11.6/12.1 netbooks out there with superior battery life (you really get 7 - 8 hrs).
*Bright LED-backlit screen.
*Nice design/ glossy blue finish.
*Comfortable keyboard.
*Relatively big hard disk (320 GB 5400 RPM)
*Slim, lightweight, weight almost as light as 10 inch netbooks
*HDMI port for HD output

Cons: *Somehow, cannot boot install your own copy of Windows. (Attempted on 2 units).
*No sleeve provided.
*Acer -- Poor warranty.
*I think this unit is pretty easy to scratch.
*A little expensive ($529 + $0.99 shipping), but I see price is coming down.

Other Thoughts: Newegg delivered this computer in 3 days. The first unit was a defective one, and they happily provided me a replacement at no additional cost (e.g. restocking / shipping).

Somehow, I could not boot install 32-bit Windows 7, so I installed from Windows interface. After my installation, installed all the drivers, but cannot turn down the brightness (using the Fn keys/ Windows).

Sent to Acer Repair Depot for repair. They don't provide you with the box, so you need your own box and shipping label. Their repair time is 10 - 15 business days, so repair takes at least 2 weeks.

Overall, this is an excellent upgrade from my Eee PC 1101HA (Atom CPU Z520, 2GB RAM). Intel Pentium processor and GMA 4500 provides entry-level notebook performance without significantly sacrificing battery life endurance.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good

Pros: The cpu is relatively decent compared with other netbooks out there.

Good amount of RAM and hdd space.

Good battery charge. I had it on for over 6 hours yesterday.

Cons: Toughpad is not great. Slow response to touch, lags. I use a mouse.

I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 on it because it came bloated with trial software and the like.

Other Thoughts: Acer says this is a notebook. SO if you are looking for drivers on their website, look in the notebook section, not netbook.

5 out of 5 eggsOverall Awesome Netbook/Notebook

Pros: Performance and specifications are awesome for its size and batter life. I used this for a month in Europe and for the last month in the US and haven't had any issues with the hardware at all, runs everything Ive used it for (haven't tried it with any graphics intensive software but plays all video fine). Quality and construction seems pretty sturdy to me, no less than any other netbook in its category so im not sure what everyone complaint is about as far as quality. Battery life is great however 8 hrs is probably not realistic even with wifi off and screen dim however I have not tried this. Either way, still has a solid 5-6 hr battery life under normal use. The internet connections on this thing are much faster overall than my desktop or other laptop....very impressive connection speeds. Overall i got more than I expected with this product.

Cons: Ive had an issue creating folders on the desktop and them not renaming properly but I believe this is due to Windows 7 not the computer.

Other Thoughts: Otherwise my only complaint is that I couldn't find this in anything but red, black and blue but the box shows that it is available in white.
Also, there are a few cover/skins available for this model but none match the blue on the interior, they are mostly wood or leather look.

1 out of 5 eggsGood machine; quality iffy

Pros: - Raw speed/performance
- Size/weight
- HDMI/USB ports
- Screen brightness
- Windows 7 full version

Cons: - Quality, quality, quality (or lack thereof)
- Balance (machine tends to tip backwards)
- Heat when used on lap
- Screen glare in bright light/sunlight

Other Thoughts: We actually own both the 1810TZ and a 1410. The 1410 is the "better" machine, although BOTH have suffered quality issues.

The 1410 had a loud fan (dislodged part), and it was nearly impossible to find a replacement (so we kept it). The newer 1810TZ has been a nightmare, with a broken "C" key, voltage regulator problem, and screen issues. Finally, the harddrive cable in both machines has separated from the clip holding it to the motherboard, requiring electric tape.

Not good.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Just over all a great computer for it's size. I sometimes can get over 9 hours on the battery when just surfing the web. The Intel Graphics processor in this thing is impressive, I was able to extend the display to a big screen. Ran pretty smooth with max resolutions on both displays (1366 x 768 Acer & 1080p Vizio TV). One concern for me was the keyboard size, it is a bit smaller but I got use to it pretty quick. Really over all no disappointments and it exceeded my expectations. Very happy with it.

Cons: None, other than no Bluetooth! I can't understand why in the world they didn't include it. It has a physical external switch and LED for bluetooth, but no chip inside. Not a big deal, can purchase one offline and installation is pretty simple. Not worth taking an egg off of because. Just would have been nice.

Other Thoughts: Most sites say this is a Netbook, when in fact on Acer's website it is considered to be a regular notebook. It really is thin, light, and small. Given its power, it's capable of much more than just the net(book). Over all it's just word play.

I replaced the stock 320gb Hard Drive with a 500gb 7200rpm hard drive, installation was easy and painless. Nice hard drive access. Don't have to take the whole thing apart. I installed Windows 7 Professional and didn't have any issues. Easy and effortless upgrade.

4 out of 5 eggsIt pleases me

Pros: quick & portable machine, all hardware works as expected, long battery life, multi-gesture touchpad

Cons: docked one star because the right side of the space bar (about 1/2 - 3/4") does not acknowledge when it is pressed - drives me crazy! other than that I don't find the keyboard to be too squishy.

Other Thoughts: expected cons- fingerprint magnet, super glossy display
unexpected pros - squeezes into 10.2" netbook sleeves

installed a dual boot with 64 bit linux mint 9 easily; tried latest live usb versions of ubuntu and fedora without problems, multi-gesture touchpad not quite as functional in linux as in windows with current defaults; updated wifi driver but may not have been necessary; hulu desktop for linux with new 64 bit flash driver works great

5 out of 5 eggsA netbook that doesn't suck

Pros: I was looking for a netbook, but was completely underwhelmed by the performance of standard 10.1" atom netbooks. I wanted something that could be an everyday PC if need be, and this guy fit the bill perfectly. It's actually faster than some of the desktop PCs I use. The integrated graphics card is very usable for basic video watching and such.

Cons: Keyboard is a bit mushy, but you get used to it. Acer win 7 factory install is super bloated to start with. I reinstalled win 7 64 bit clean and it runs much better, but I have yet to get the multi touchpad working correctly again since the reinstall.

Other Thoughts: I also installed Ubuntu and Linux Mint 64 bit and both work well, although Win 7 64 somehow kills any linux distro as far as battery life is concerned. With Ubuntu variants, I get 5-7 hours battery life, but with a clean win 7 on power save, I get 6-9 hours battery. This thing is extremely beefy for how small it is and for how long the battery lasts. So far I am extremely pleased.

4 out of 5 eggsNever mind the Atom

Pros: Oh, heck yes. I'd been using an Eee 1000HE for the better part of the past eighteen months, and while I loved the thing, it really did crawl compared with any other computer I use regularly. I got this model rather than the Core 2 Duo Timeline because I've had such good luck with dual-core Pentiums in every machine I've built in the past year or so, and this guy is no exception -- easily three times as fast as my Eee, and despite the larger screen, it's virtually no bigger (in fact, it still fits in my carrying sleeve, which is nice ...

Cons: ... because this didn't include one. Kind of cheap of them, but this is by far the best netbook-plus I've seen for the value, so I can't complain too much. Despite the more powerful CPU, this still gets upwards of seven hours of batter, and it's not fractionally as much of a fingerprint magnet as my Eee. The one disappointment so far is the touchpad; ASUS has been using some crummy ones on the newer Eee's, but I was absolutely spoiled by the 1000HE's, and I'm having a hard time adjusting to the lack of two-finger middle-click. It's fine otherwise, though (I turned the sensitivity way up).

Other Thoughts: I can't imagine needing 4gb of memory in this thing, but thanks anyway, Acer! Unequivocally recommend the purchase to anybody who wants a little more from a netbook.
