5 out of 5 eggsGreat UMPC

Pros: small and light - bright screen - docking station is included

Cons: only 1GB of memory - 1 USB port on device and non-powered!

Other Thoughts: the non-powered USB port makes it impossible to run a USB Cellular modem (sprint or verizon) - must use cingular built in modem

5 out of 5 eggsGreat machine after tweaks

Pros: full function laptop
very portable

Cons: small (duh)

Other Thoughts: Okay, I don't have the 280, I have the 380, which is essentially the same thing but with Vista.

Screen is very sharp but tiny. Here's what I did with my machine to make it more usable:

(1) Rip out Vista, upgrade to XP
Sony won't help with drivers, but posts at will.

(2) enlarge DPI setting to 120 from 96 (properties/settings/general)

(3) In Firefox, increase min font size to 16 for my aging eyes

(4) get RitePen for text entry via stylus and a bluetooth folding keyboard

(5) get a second battery

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: big punch in a small package. i've watched micro pcs since they were a concept and i waited until i found the perfect one, and this is it. sharp screen and a backlit keyboard means this computer kills the competition.

Cons: nothing that can't be fixed with a little know-how

Other Thoughts: i spent $xx on a cdrw and a usb enclosure that allowed me to make recovery cds and get rid of the recovery partition. also, when you rid the computer of the partition, go here to read how to get rid of the bloatware:
p.s. i typed this review on my 280p :)

4 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: It's very nice small notebook. I like it. I has the exactly same funtion with noebook. The screen is clear.

Cons: The battery poor. only can use 1.5 hour. So I give ****

Other Thoughts: The hard drive should be 80 GB and more.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little PC

Pros: Beautiful LCD and back lit keyboard. The screen resolution is awesome @ 1024x600. A lot of UMPCs have much lower screen resolutions with make viewing everything very difficult. With the UX screen, all web pages fit perfectly.

The size of this machine is amazing... it's a little thick but still fits in your hand very well.

Comes with a case, which is a plus for me!

Cons: BLOATWARE! this PC came with over 60 running processes out of the box! I don't understand why they put all of that adware on the machines, it really kills the performance.

Fingerprint reader is a useless feature.

SIM card locked to Cingular, can be unlocked by Sony.

40GB HD is kind of small.

8GB partition used for recovery, no recovery CDs included with purchase.

No external CD drive.

Non upgradeable ram.

Relatively low battery time @ 3hrs or so..

Other Thoughts: Touch screen is kind of pointless, without the tap and hold feature for right, makes clicking using the touch screen is pretty useless. I think the machine should come with Tablet PC edition instead of XP Professional...

I went with the hard drive version because the price of the NAND UX isn't worth what your getting.

I wanted something small that I didn't have to lug around. I couldn't be happier!

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent porttable computer worth every penny

Pros: my opinion is this ia the best umpc value on the market its closest competitor is the oqo q2 which uses a 1.5ghz processor mines has a 1.2 but core solo is new generation fabrication and the via is basically a revamped chipset cpu i doubt it can handle multi tasking as well as the sony .i download music via limewire surf and watch videos at the same time this is a killer on the battery even with the wi-fi radio turned off i get 2.20 hrs usually there is a battery that with get 4hrs to 7hrs ive seen as low as 212 dollars.the docking station is awesome it has 3 usb ports a vga output charging station tv and audio output so it can be used as a desktop if needed not to mention the bluetooth onboard i use mine to stay on the internet all day all over my house back and front yard.there is a built in card by cingular but there network is old and slow i use the new verizon ev-do network its the same 79 dollar price as cingular but 4-5x faster 400-700kbs 2mb max vs cingulars 70-95 kbs.

Cons: very little my biggest problem is the pointer it cakes off and just looks terrible after a lityle use it dost effect performance at all its just asthecticly bad .there is a newer verion of this pad its made for the newer ux390p which is rubber and lasts.

Other Thoughts: i could talk about this all day i did my homework on this and its exactly what i wanted it has the best screen of any umpc its a swiss army knife of computers it needs a usb modem for the evdo network 179dollars but the newer model has it onboard.the newer model of this the ux390p is not much better featurewise but it has a solid state harddrive which is way faster but at double the price of the ux280p sony sales rep told me i can upgrade my harddrive later to the solid state model i like the silver and black color of this one the new one is all black. you will get stares and comments from everyone that sees it its a show will even upgrade your xp pro to vista buisness free when you register they send you a dvd with all the programs and drivers you will need.i hear alot of reviews of people uninstalling software for better performance this only effects the boot time this unit is fast with everything installed and very useful antivirus suite dvd ultrasync bluetooth office.

5 out of 5 eggsSmall package

Pros: Excellent product just what I expected for a Newegg price and quality.
For everything as stated in the specs.

Cons: Coming from a 2.28GHZ. ATHLON desktop with 2g of ram it is kind of slow.
But to get it in a neat little to go package it worth the wait. if your not use to a tweaked out machine you wont be disappointed.

Other Thoughts: The finger print reader is HOT!!!!
I don’t know how I made it this long without one. No more typing in passwords and trying to remember them one swipe and you in your favorite site.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I am a studen at Keene State College and recently bought this computer so I would be able to leave my laptop behind. The ultra-mobility of this device is phenomenal! I had no problem setting up a bluetooth keyboard (Think Outside Bluetooth Fold-a-way keyboard) and installation of new software (owith a external cd/dvd drive) was a breeze. I highly recmmend this product to students who want extra portibility byond a laptop.
I lso had this shipped UPS, and they were once again phenomenal with delivery, never had a single problem with receivin products from NewEgg thus far

Cons: Keyboard is not designed to be used to take notes or write papers with. Highly recommend an external bluetooth keyboard that folds up (ogot it from Newegg for under 100) if you want to take notes during class. Also you need to get an external DVD/CD ROM drive (an inexpensive one works just fine, once again got mine from Newegg for under 100) to load new software (Office 2007, etc)

Other Thoughts: I feel that while the price was high for this product, the portability and wi-fi really make it worth it's price.. if you need this sort of portability. I can't really see myself using this frequently outside of a university setting

5 out of 5 eggsJust right.

Pros: 4.5 inch screen is large enough to watch videos and read ebooks. Touchpoint and stylus replace mouse. Keyboard though seldom needed. 1024x600 great res for such small screen. It runs World of Warcraft well amazingly. Only installed to see if it would run.

Cons: I miss the hand writing input from tablet edition of windows. Not advisable to run it inside of carrying pouch, it has vents for cooling that need to be clear to intake/output air. 10gigs of hdd reserved for hdd image and install programs in case you uninstalled or messed up something, leaving only about 20gigs free after all your apps are installed. Also comes with EVERYTHING installed, very annoying had to uninstall so much. Makes sense tho since it has no CD/DVD drive to install apps.

Other Thoughts: It was a decision between the UX280 or one of the Samsung tablets. The sony won because the image was crisper and clearer. The resolution helps a lot. Wish it did 1920x1200 so i could watch 1080i videos. I load up on videos and watch on commute to work.
