Great UMPC
- Pros: small and light - bright screen - docking station is included
- Cons: only 1GB of memory - 1 USB port on device and non-powered!
- Other Thoughts: the non-powered USB port makes it impossible to run a USB Cellular modem (sprint or verizon) - must use cingular built in modem
Great machine after tweaks
- Pros: full function laptop
very portable
- Cons: small (duh)
- Other Thoughts: Okay, I don't have the 280, I have the 380, which is essentially the same thing but with Vista.
Screen is very sharp but tiny. Here's what I did with my machine to make it more usable:
(1) Rip out Vista, upgrade to XP Sony won't help with drivers, but posts at micropctalk.com will.
(2) enlarge DPI setting to 120 from 96 (properties/settings/general)
(3) In Firefox, increase min font size to 16 for my aging eyes (tools/options/content/advanced)
(4) get RitePen for text entry via stylus and a bluetooth folding keyboard
(5) get a second battery
- Pros: big punch in a small package. i've watched micro pcs since they were a concept and i waited until i found the perfect one, and this is it. sharp screen and a backlit keyboard means this computer kills the competition.
- Cons: nothing that can't be fixed with a little know-how
- Other Thoughts: i spent $xx on a cdrw and a usb enclosure that allowed me to make recovery cds and get rid of the recovery partition. also, when you rid the computer of the partition, go here to read how to get rid of the bloatware:
p.s. i typed this review on my 280p :)
