Portable computers have come a long way since the sewing-machine-sized “luggables”, and this offering from Sony just emphasizes that point. With an ultra large LCD, an EPEAT(tm) Silver rating, Energy Star and RoHS compliance, and Super Multi DVD burner, 3GB of RAM and 250GB of hard drive, it's off to a good start.
Then add three USB ports and a Firewire port, a built in webcam and microphone, a gigabit LAN connection and a wireless LAN transceiver, Bluetooth technology, and a modem for the “old-fashioned” phone lines and you've got the connectivity you need while traveling.
Frankly, there isn’t enough room to really talk about it, so check out the specs for yourself and if this is the laptop for you, we will happily sell it to you.

Best For Its Price
- Pros: For its price range (I paid sub-$1000), I have found no other computer with this combination of ghz, RAM, memory, blu ray, etc. I have run the computer with and without the power cord for 6 hours now and I can still safely put the laptop on my lap (but not for long!). The engineering of this is beautiful, practical, ultra efficient, and downright amazing. The unheard of 16.4" 1080p screen is incredible, vibrant, suitable for a movie, and otherwise devine. ON TOP OF THAT, IT'S NOT A DELL!!!! And on newegg it was $170 cheaper than ANYONE else!
- Cons: I could not downgrade the RAM or memory. These are cheaper to install myself and I'm not happy I had to pay extra for it.
I already knew that the left/ right mouse click is horrible and after usage only gets worse. But the scroll pad and sensitive tap features compensate, plus I can easily purchase a blue tooth, wireless, or plug-in mouse.
Youtube will not go to full screen without a download on Sony's website.
As with ANY blu ray laptop DVD, not all blue ray discs will play. Sony is upgrading the software monthly because new types of blue ray are constantly emerging.
- Other Thoughts: Every con listed has a simple fix. I only wanted you to know them before purchasing the system. I understand that older Vaio systems have keyboard and screen issues. Every expert I have talked to say that this is the best Vaio yet and that the FW and AR series are flawless.
If I could have afforded the Alienware or Mac for $2-3,000 more with the same specs (minus screen and DVD), I would have bought it. But for the price it is unheard of. This is a computer that will probably be suitable in 10 years if maintained appropriately and slightly upgraded (ghz and RAM).
Whatever you do, don't buy a Dell. The customer care is HORRIBLE and the motherboards are, without a better word, miserable. I have had problems on all 5 Dell computers I have owned (and the embarrassing MP3) and no will from a supervisor, representative, or otherwise to assist me.
- Pros: It does everything I need it to do. Plays Halo 2 which is a bonus. No waiting for things to open or load with the core 2 duo processor and 3gb of ram so it's a great laptop for the money.
- Cons: none

- Pros: The specs on this laptop are amazing for the price.
It looks great, runs great, and performs well.
- Cons: The battery life is "ok" (I get around 2.5 hours).
Its worth buying the extended life battery.
Laptop comes with a bit of pre-loaded junk, but that's to be expected of any brand-name laptop.
