4 out of 5 eggsStill good after three years

Pros: The most durable vaio I got. Still running strong after 3 years.

Cons: Generates a lot of heat. Needs a cooling pad.

Other Thoughts: Thanks to the ATI video processor inside this FW. It keeps the machine live after three years.
The much more expensive VGN-AR I bought at the same time already died on the Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT. Sony refuse to acknowledge the design fault. Fine, no more vaios for me.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This is the best value for your money, the computer runs well and the graphics card is great

Cons: Sony does not give you a restore discs so you are stuck with a boat load of their programs which are pain to get rid of, but with windows 7 coming soon this should be resolved.

Other Thoughts: Get it

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad...

Pros: Fast. Runs pretty cool. I leave it on constantly and just let it fall into sleep mode. I can sit it on my lap for hours. It get a little worm, but definately not hot.

Cons: No VT. Because it runs Vista x64, there are some programs that i'd like to run in a VT. Too bad Sony disables this on their chips. For the life of me I can't understand why? There is no proprietary benefit....

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Notebook

Pros: Finally, a notebook I can live with. I have bought three notebooks in the past 5 months H-P, A-S-U-S and now v-A-I-O. And, I am very much satisfied with the Vaio. Keyboard is better than m-a-c book and has a very good feel to it. Very well designed notebook and I like the placement of power button (unique). Awesome performance with Windows 7 X64 RTM. Running XP pro with VMware inside without any problems. This notebook has the best touchpad I have ever experienced. the best part about this notebook is the wireless card that has a pretty good coverage compared to other 802 n cards in other brand notebooks. Screen Quality and graphic card are also very nice compared to other gaming notebooks I am using. Webcam is 1.3 MP motioneye is not the best but good enough for video chat. Other good things about this notebook is that its not a fingerprint magnet. Every surface is designed keeping functionality in mind. This notebook is absolutely gorgeous. You will not be disappointed with this one.

Cons: The Hard drive used to get very hot so I replaced it with 128 GB SSD and now the booting time of win 7 is reduced by 50 per cent. WIndoes vista home edition and the overall pre loaded software was okay until it started bothering me with delayed shutdown and hang ups when resuming from hibernation mode and ultimately became a nightmare for me. It is a heavy notebook (almost 7 lbs).

Other Thoughts: I would recommend to do a clean install of vista or win 7 business/ ultimate if you run into problems with hangups. I am now a Vaio fan and will probably stick with S-O-N-Y for my future notebook needs even if they cost a bit more compared to other brands like H-P or A-S-U-S. Win 7 upgrade option is also nice but almost everyone is offering it nowadays. This notebook does not get very hot with continuous usage and is very quiet. the 7200 rpm hard drive used to get hot so I replaced that with SSD. now, no problems with performance or noise. Resolution is another reason I picked this 1600 900 and that is what I was looking for. Same model has 1080 p with blu ray available but I had no use for that in a notebook. Look no further and buy this if weight/size is not an issue for you.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat value

Pros: great laptop for a really good price (i got it when it was 900 minus the bing cashback discount). compared to the other laptops i considered/tested (eg. hp hdx, dell xps), this vaio has similar or better specs for a lower price. some good points:
- very fast overall and good graphics card
- stays relatively cool and quiet (except the hard drive)
- awesome keyboard
- very sleek and light-weight for a 16in laptop
- looks good - so much better than the tacky plastic chrome style of the hp hdx i tried
- not as much bloatware as i was expecting; sony's gotten better in this area

Cons: the screen is probably the biggest con. yes the "x-brite" is very bright... but color saturation is off, and the blacks just aren't black (no matter the tinkering in the ati adjustment controls). the backlighting is pretty even and uniform for being a ccfl panel. overall, after some color adjustments, i'm fine with the screen, and it will still suit me well for my needs. other cons:
- right palmrest can get hot since that's where the hard drive is; when it's very active, the drive approaches 60C and can make the palmrest uncomfortable - thankfully, this doesn't happen very often
- no esata port

4 out of 5 eggsMy new baby

Pros: The spec's are exactly what I was looking for and the price is unbeatable. I love the SD card slots and bluetooth. The HDMI port is an awesome bonus, it's great for hooking Netflix to your TV. Everything seems great so far, except.....see cons.

Cons: There is no PCMCIA card slot. This is a huge problem for me since that's how I connect my audio interface. That's really the only reason I didn't give it 5 eggs/stars. It did not come with a Vista disk to reinstall the O.S. , so there is no quick way to get rid of all the trial and useless software. There is way too much junk in there slowing everything down. It does offer a free windows 7 upgrade, so hopefully that will solve this. Who knows when I will get the upgrade in the mail.

Other Thoughts: Don't get me wrong, this is an awesome machine. It took a long time to actually get it in my hands but I am really happy. New Egg really makes sure no one steals your identity and that's a good thing, just be sure all your bank info is up to date and you haven't changed your phone number or anything.

5 out of 5 eggsFast laptop

Pros: Good processor, p8700
Good video card, ati 4650m, 1gig ram
4gigs ram
320gb hard drive
1600x900 resolution
weight evenly distributed

Installed CS:S, maxed settings, and 8x AA. 30+ fps in 24 slot server. Maxed settings in ET:QW, 24 slot server, 25+ fps. Though there were some black boxes around some trees in ET:QW, i changed the AS & bump mapping and it solved it.

Cons: Speaker is not up to par with the rest of the computer.

Other Thoughts: Newegg shipped this to me for free. I orded Thursday morning. Arrived Friday morning. It was their free 3 day shipping too. Wow that was fast.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Fast Processor
Great Video Card
Quiet
Runs cool
Free Windows 7 Upgrade
Overall a great computer for the price

Cons: Don't really have any. Some bloatware but that is not a big deal.

No VT but I would rarely/never use it anyway. Processor is capable but Sony turns it off. Though I hear Sony will start enabling it in the future.

Other Thoughts: This a great laptop for what I paid. I have no complaints.
